6 months is way too long. I wouldn't even wait 6 weeks. I am torn, Part of me wants to check out beta, and part of me wants to wait until after release to see how the economy goes. Either way, we will know pretty quickly how it's going down. If the conversation turned "Tit-for-Tat", and I've stopped posting, Consider it your win. |

Originally posted by itgrowls What exactly is wrong with this thread? Are you all supposed to be praising this unfinished product that has shown very little content past lvl 30 and calling it the next great thing in gaming? Is there no room for unbiased skepticism? |

Originally posted by Monorojo Sure there is. Is there any room for unbiased optimism? I don't think the game is the second coming of jesus or anything, but some of the features and ideas it's promising look like a good start. So I'll give it a shot. Worst that can happen is I lay a few months and get tired of it. 60 bucks for 40+ hours of gameplay is about the industry standard right now, so if I get that much enjoyment out of it we call it even. If it's better...I'll be happy.
If I can't stand it beyond a day..well I don't think it will come to that, but we'll see. |

Originally posted by Monorojo I was wondering when we'll move on to "no content past level 30." Go on, I'm eager to read your "unbiased" skepticism. Edit: also, Asura and Sylvari are not playable yet. May want to touch on that as well.

If people have the right to be optomistic here, then people have the same right to be skeptical. You guys are hating on any skepticism of the game you have never played thoroughly but already love and defend like it is your baby.
There is something fundamentally wrong here. |

Didn't bother reading the other 34 pages .... but yeah, I'm not touching this till the hype coating gets worn down.
wasn't both Rift and TOR both supposed to revitalize the market and kill wow, or something. now both of them have pretty much faded into the collective MMO backdrop just like every other MMO post-launch, having accomplished little more than spreading the concentration of WOW players to three titles instead of just one.
they game will probably still be good, and a viable mass market alternative to WOW for once (instead of EVE or a slew of niche titles that focus on one or two gameplay elements), but it still will probably take a month or two before the hype wears off and the launch day buggs get patched. |

If you see no good or you see no bad in a game, chances are you are bias. |

Seriously though, overhype can kill any game. I actually played rift beta and wasn't that fond of it. Still, I got it because of friends and in the end I greatly enjoy it. Most fun I've had in some time raiding in years. |

For any other games, I would wait for at least 6 months before I would consider buying it. Or trying out the trail version first. Tera, Archmage, The Secret World, etc, etc, they are all looking intersting but I wouldn't even consider pre-purchase them because I've never played a game from the developer so I have some trust issues there... Although Guild Wars 2 would be the exception. I've already pre-purchased it already. I have been playing Guild Wars 1 since day one and I know they put out a good quality game so I believe Guild Wars 2 will be the same. People are really making way too big of a deal out of the "cash shop" ... It's NOT like the typical cash shops in those "F2P" games. The items from the in game store(cash shop, if you really want to call it) are just cosmetic stuff. It's not buy to win. |

I will be waiting at least 1 month or 2 before buying the game. I have learned not to play new releases on day 1 or month 1. I did play GW1 at release, and while not at all awful, there were problems that made the game hectic and unfun (terrible rubberbanding, especially in arena matches is the main one I remember). It is more about avoiding bugs and release problems rather than avoiding hype. I am not that hyped up about the game, but I am looking forward to it. Playing MUDs and MMOs since 1994. |
