I spent the majority of my time in Guild Wars 2’s 2nd beta event exploring the world, and focusing less on progression (have to save some fun for release!). One of the more stunning vistas I explored was no doubt the human capital city of Divinity’s Reach. Have you ever played an MMO where the cities just feel like giant empty spaces, meant solely as a place for players to hawk their wares and gather for dungeons? Well, that’s not the case in GW2. In fact, the city of Divinity’s Reach feels like a zone in and of itself, teeming with life, chatter, and purpose. There are children running about, criminals in the alleys, vendors shouting out their sales, nobles with their noses held high. People are milling about the bars and telling tales and discussing world events. It feels alive, or as close as we’ve come in an MMO, and it’s really just the kind of place you have to see for yourself.
So with that in mind, I ran around the city and explored it for you below. I tried to steer clear of any spoilers, and deliberately didn’t go through the whole place. But take a look at the video below, and tell us if you like what you see. We’ve got the Charr’s Black Citadel and the Norn’s Hoelbrak coming soon too!
