I'm looking for a MMORPG/ORPG that allows for meaningful PVP. In other words, a game that distributes so-called harsh (compared to games like WOW) penalties to those who die to other players. (e.g. loss of items, gold, experience) I think Lineage 2 may be one, but I'm not entirely sure. Moreover, I'd really appreciate it if one of you would elucidate what PVP means exactly in L2. |

Originally posted by WolfThirteen lol, meaningful pvp. I'll tell you, if I die in L2 I just get back to my spot or find the person who attacked me etc. If I die in WoW or LOTRO I log out because the wait to get to my body, get rid of the sickness is such a waste of my time I feel I could be doing anything else. You can lose xp in L2. You used to be able to drop but now you can drop only if you are red (meaning you have killed someone who didn't fight back) AND you have more than 5 pk's (you can get rid of pk's by leveling a sin eater. There are clan wars as well as Sieges. My personal favorite are the sieges and it's why I play. The clan wars lessen yoru xp loss unless it is a one way war. For instance, my clan just declared war on a clan and they didn't accept. So if we kill them we go red. and they lose 4% xp. If they kill us we get 2% loss ( I think that's the way it works out.. it's been a while ) in any case, you get the idea. There are several threads you can read to get more info as this has been talked about quite a lot. Here and the main forum. Good luck. |

Might as well add another of my noob questions here
Do players drop coin and items when killed as in EQ2 making it a good idea to always bank before you leave a town? |

You do not drop coin or lose gear anymore, unless you are chaotic (ie have PK'd someone), and done it at least 5 times. You DO lose XP and that is very painful considering how long it takes to get it back. The PvP system is based on action and reaction. It has inbuilt mechanisms which recognise whether you have reacted to someone attacking you or not and the game engine evaluates the outcome accordingly. The Clan system has a separate and overarching mechanic which overlays a player driven political filter over PvP. In other words you may be killed freely with greater detrimental consequences to yourself than the attacking party. This is intentional in order to promote PvP. You are not encouraged to shy away from PvP but fight back even if you allready know the outcome... By fighting back irrespective of odds you establish your credibility as an L2 player. the pvp is meaningfull but it's also very screwed up, you need to do a lot off research on it before you start to play for the pvp, cause it's liekly not the thing you expect |
