Due to problems getting my account set up on the official forums I've had to ask you guys here for some advice! Have contacted support so hopefully they'l get back to me before the days end.
I've just started L2 and have been looking at the classes, there really are alot. Without any solid class information anywhere that I can find on the internet I'm lost as to what class is a good choice.
I usually play a DPS class be it melee or ranged - personal preference to the game's mechanics really. However I'm not sure if any classes are known to be rubbish and a bad choice later in the game?
Cheers!! |

The only real class i consider rubbish is the Light Elves Tank ( Templar Knight i think) its pretty rubbish (imo), everything else is all ups and downs really, my advice to you is, play whatever suits you best, playing a classe because its overpowered or any other silly reason will just mean you will get bored at the higher lvls.
This is my personal preference for melee/ranged are: melee: Gladiator, Treasure Hunter; ranged: Hawkeye; I play a Hawkeye and i enjoy it. |

Hows the Silver Ranger or Phantom Ranger hold out?
What about the melee DPS classes for Elf and Dark Elfs?
I was a human last time i played the game very shortly so i'd like to take a completely different approach this time. |

Well, all archers are pretty good so no worries there. HE is extremely good. Only the dagger classes for dark and light elf for dps and again, they rely on specials landing, crit damage, etc. |

Which DPS class is better would you say? The DE or Elf? |

My guess is Dark Elf with damage but the Light Elf having more criticals (as that's how it seems to break down with the archers).
I'm afraid that might be something you will have to ask on the main boards or perhaps someone here has experience with daggers. |

Kikinchaz, As it stands atm the DE's have an advantage over LE's because the benefits derived per point of strength far outweigh those of dex. Invariably the point difference between LE's and DE's dex ammounts to nothing. The 6 points of str however set them worlds apart. The difference in con is likewise not overwhelming and whilst you will be easily stunned, the end game equipment bonuses tend to cancel out those issues to a large degree. Various tatoos and gear options become available as you near the end game and I know many a DE player that enjoys their toons despite these perceived weaknesses. So racially speaking DE > LE because the game is not balanced between offense and defense. Offense prevails at all levels of the game. WRT all initial characters, DO NOT concern yourself with PvP or the end game on your fist class. Firstly you will have a choice of classes at 75 when you subclass. Sure there are some limitations but by and large they're not insurmountable. Secondly equipment and skill overenchants make the end game, and those are best tackled at 78+ for the better success chances. So my advice to you as a starting player is go for what motivates you and inspires you visually. Remember that you can subclass at 75, the first class choice is not really that important, its a matter of what you enjoy playing. Once you get to 75+ you will develop flexibility as to what suits your clan/group etc... In the meantime, enjoy your time in L2 Regards, Ellyrion Fiallathandriel The Reckless Knight |

NC seems to change the game ALOT that is the trend, classes that might be meaningless or slightly less powerfull can become quite decent over night, as far as classes go from what i have seen you can do pretty well with any of them, what you have to take into account is the classic context of the classes, a TANK will tank, he wont do awesome dmg (even tho some might have good weapons like DA has a panther), a DD will be the pure dps , and a SUPPORT/HEALER will be a healer/support, these roles are very defined. My advice is still play the class that you feel confortable with and or like, and abstract yourself from "Play X beause its very good in pvp" this will end up frustrating you in the long run(which is a very long run), subclassing you usually quicker as you can support that new class with your 75+ which will be making a good income. |

Question: If I were to return to my gladi and then level to 75 to open the subclass system and play a Hawkeye what will be the penalties for Hawkeye fun? I'm wondering if I should take my gladi up and use subclasses, or roll an alt to level Hawkeye. With the new Gracia leveling speed I feel like all i'll lose from rolling an alt will be the level 1-40 experience, and having the subclass buffs for Gladiator. Any tips? I'd really just like to play with Gladiator and Hawkeye for fun/raiding/guild fights/sieges/pvp. |

The subclass system starts you off at a lvl 40 version of the class you pick. You have the exact same toon but you now have all the stats of a lvl 40 "whatever". You have to get new gear (if the class is different from the main such a a main that is a mage and a sub that is a warrior) and you have to get the appropriate tattoos to alter your sub's stats. The only connection to Main and Sub is that they will (or already have?) included various bonuses for the main class depending on your sub and its level. So if you have a main as mage and a warrior as sub, you might get more hitpoints once you reach a certain lvl but if your main is mage and your sub is a mage you might get some sort of magical bonus, etc. I can't remember what they were. Also, your sub will cap out at lvl 80 while your main can go to lvl 85. |

How do the Kamael classes compare in terms of melee DPS? Theyre descriptions are v.different to the others.
Also I think i've decided more to go for a melee DPS. Which is the most interesting in your opinion and the most solo friendly??
Cheers for this :) |

There is a lot of talk about archers getting nerfed hard in Gracia. This comes from the Korean patch notes where CT2 is already live. Basically they changed the damage formula for ranged attacks in that bows do full damage at 900 range but very little damage at point blank range. Beyond 900 range they do additional damage. What this means is that archers rape face in sieges but get owned everywhere else. But that said, the archer classes are usually described like this: Hawkeye > Phantom Ranger > Silver Ranger. HEs are made for shoot-outs, and require the least amount of skill to be good. PRs can be good (and sometimes even better) than HEs but they require a lot more effort/patience on the player's part. SRs are undeniably the weakest archer not because they are a useless class, but because HEs and PRs simply do what archers are supposed to do much better than SRs can: big damage at long range. The only useless class in L2 is, as mentioned above, Temple Knight (Elf tank). Because realistically there is nothing TKs can do that ot | |
