Hi guys,
Trialed L2 a couple of months ago and then i got into AOC closed beta have decided AOC isnt the game for me so i am waiting on WAR, Aion, SGW.
Is L2 worth buying to kill time or will 6 months or so just not be enough time to ever realy experience what the game has to offer. Im quite a casual player with a 7 month old daughter who dictates my play time.

I was thinkin bout playing it too. Im gonna say no to myself though because my sudden desire to play the game has come up about 3 weeks before AoC and im playing that, so if AoC doesnt work out maybe ill play Lin 2. Il remember you if i decide to play and maybe if we both get the game, we can lvl together. One thing thats making me feel hesitant about playing, tho, is the lack of players. I want a game that has tons of players, and thats one good thing about WoW, which im currently playing. Lin 2 is about 4 years old in NA, keep in mind, and numbers are dwindling around 1,000,000 subbers/players and all arent gonna be on at once. Theres another post that says it takes 1000+ hours to hit cap, so that will fill your 6 months beautifullly. Also, im waiting for Aion myself. It looks absolutely amazing, and i cant wait till it comes out. Do you kno the ETA for it, btw? If you have an xfire, add me, im respyshunt. PST me if u think about playing lin 2 |

The grind is a bit more bearable with new servers. Recently, a new server was opened, that might encourage you to start, and, playing a pair of hours per day during 6 months you might be able to reach a good point, but im afraid you'll have to quit when you're arriving to the best part of the game. Plus, this game isn't really casual friendly, you must do parties at high levels in order to progress properly, the time it will take you to find a decent party will consume your few hours, anyways, as I said, with fresh new servers it might be bearable. You can always give it a try I guess :) |

Well, it depends what you are looking for. Quite frankly I'm not a big believer in "killing time'. Too precious. So why would you be playing L2? For the Quests? We all know they are utilitarian and not any reason to play the game. For the PvP? Well, you might find players your own level to fight but what ends up happening is that they sign in on their mains and will rain havoc down on you. For the grind? Well, possibly. I find it very relaxing while I'm listening to music. But as an end in itself? Probably not. You wont' be able to fight in a siege though you could possibly help as a scout/spy. So, besides art design, what is it in the game that you want to experience? Because L2 is a long term game. You are always working toward a far point where you can be more effective in pvp. However, as a casual gamer? most likely you will become frustrated. The "game" of L2 is really the interaction between the players. So unless you are active in a clan/alliance, you will be missing a lot of the game. My guess is "no", not worth it. |

Don''t Panic!!!! |
Originally posted by Sovrath I agree with Sovrath, L2 requires some commitment and it doesn't really get to be interesting until later in the game. Unless you really get into the community / politics, you are not going to get anything out of L2 but a hard core grind. In all seriousness, and I'm not trying to be a smarty, play WoW. Its a great "filler" game. You can jump in, make a ton of progress, and do pretty much every aspect of the game in six months and its fun / casual and doesn't require you to really get to involved with anything except maybe some raiding if you are into that.

Originally posted by thamighty213I dont think you will have much fun with L2... of course I could be wrong, but L2 is very hardcore, so after 6 months, you wouldnt get any far in any respect, yet. No castle sieges for you there, I fear. You could try some of the free MMOs, like Rappelz (never tried it myself, so dunno how good/bad it is), or of course WoW, LotRO, or Vanguard (has become pretty solid recently, should be a nice experience for a casual). If you like PvP, Guild Wars might be considerable, even if for 6 months of casual play, the 170 or so Dollars you have to spend for it is a bit expensive. Or you could get something non-classic-fantasy, but of that I have no clue.
