Based on my limited research into this game (I looked around this forum and did a few google searches), I've yet to come up with any negative reviews about this game. I'm not saying the game is bad, but only finding positive reviews doesn't seem all too credible.

Could any player, past or present, please write up a brief review, going over both the good and the bad and maybe discussing how and in what ways this game compares to and differs from other recognizable mmo's.

Thanks in advance.

I'm glad someone asked this question. I loved the game when it first came out a few years ago and even wrote a review but I'll let you make up your mind of it all by giving you a broad spectrum of what to expect from Knights of Dream City.

Cons:

1. I'll deal with the cons first because, well, I like to get that out of the way as I feel like the cons are some of the things not often discussed with indie games. Mind, you, this is simply my opinion. This is also coming from someone who supported this game from the early stages.

2. There isn't anything very innovative about the game at all to be honest. Don't expect anything that will blow your mind away as far as concept or originality. This is mainly a PVE game, no PVP at all the last I checked and the game plays a little like a multiplayer dungeon crawler.

3. Graphics are ok but may be out dated to the standard of most mmo vets.

4. Learning curve isn't that bad but some may have to get used to how the crafting works. Also the fighting is a bit different. The cool down for each special attack displays an icon, when the icon is removed from the screen, that is when you know you can use the skill again. This caught me off guard at first but as I played it gave a twist to how fighting is done and made things interesting. There are also a few minor bugs but it's a pretty solid game all around.

5. The world could be larger and it would be nice to see new inventive areas and zones added to the game. This can always be added if they decide to expand the title.

6. Nothing lasts forever. Had a great time, moved on as I have many titles. I come back to the game every so often to see how things are.

7. Community is very small.

Pros:

1. The game is crazy fun. I mean at least for me, I felt like I had a lot to do and was rushing to get things done.

2. The game was quite addicting. Crafting, developing your colony, everything was very engaging. I must say I had a blast.

3. This is one of my favorite indie games, in so much, I'm just waiting for them to make another mmo or add another major update to the game as I'm a fan. It just had an appeal, a feel that drew me in. A game has to have something about it that makes me believe in it. I like the game and the way they made it.

4. One time payment with no monthly fees.

I've had a love hate relationship with NSG which is now NSE. They aren't perfect but they do good and are a LOT further from where they were when I bought the game. Knights of Dream City is a very fun game but it may not live up to the standards of many mmo vets looking for a more in depth and hardcore experience. I'm an avid gamer and a hardcore mmo vet and the game was still a great time for me. If you are just looking for a nostalgic feeling game that's a good time, this may be the game for you. If you are looking for a hardcore mmorpg experience with PVP, guild battles and such, lol, this game won't do it.

Thank you for the review. None of those cons really seem to bother me. The only one that might present an issue is 7., and there's no way to really determine that without playing the game and seeing whether or not I'm solo all the time. Otherwise,  I can't believe I haven't tried this yet, especially with no subscription (b2p, my favorite model).

EDIT:

I had another question, but I just realized that the game requires no download, which means I can try the game tonight. Thus, I can see the answer for myself. Thanks again.

They just recently added a trial to the game which is good as they hadn't had a trial for the game till now (since I can remember). The game does require a download and the trial for the game is very, limited. They didn't include any real content other than being able to test the combat at mid level. It's better than nothing but don't expect to get access to try everything the game has. They have a free browser based game that requires no download (a streategy browser mmo) called "Dream City Battle Tactics". I used to play the browser based game back then but the community is small and I'm not sure how many people still play the browser game if any. The browser game was also fun for the time but took patience to learn and to appreciate.

*Sigh. When I remember it, they honestly have a good setup and it would be nice to see them update and improve the game as I'm not the only one who not only supported their efforts but wanted to see KoDC do well. I don't want to start complaining or start a flame or anything, but here are a few of my honest concerns as well:

1. They are offering a server opportunity for partners to run their own server. This might be a great opportunity for the partners but I just feel as if Knights of Dream City is a game with so much potential that should have their team updating and improving the game for the players, not giving it away as an opportunity. I mean I kind of feel like they just gave up on what could be an amazing title. A lot of us feel this way and had hopes that they would inlude expansions and major updates. I know that the community is small and it costs a lot of money to create expansions and to add major updates and new content, but I strongly believe the game is worth it.

2. This is still a fun game and they've been up for nearly 2 years now. I hope this doesn't discourage your perspective of their games, but I just thought I would let you know.

We are still working hard to improve the game and we have a lot of big plans for the future of Knights of Dream City. Keep in mind that it will be our partners that will help expand the community and game's demand. We aren't abandoning development by any means. Our partner program will help KoDC's community grow and help inspire us to do more for the community and game at large.
