  • Update 2 Launches

    Turbine has announced that Update 2 for Lord of the Rings Online has been (or is being) deployed on all servers. The new update brings Volume III, Book 3: Echoes of the Dead online as well as a host of major updates to several important game features. There are new instance "clusters", new skirmishes, new content and the Spring Festival is live as well.

  • Volume III, Book 3 Quest Notes

    Turbine's Jeff 'MadeOfLions' Libby has penned a new dev blog entitled "Update 2: Volume III, Book 3 Quest Notes Developer Diary". The article begins with a discussion of the mysterious relics that have begun to appear in Eriador and then segues into new quest arcs before wrapping up at a preview of the epic content coming in Book 3: Echoes of the Dead.

  • Overhauling Evendim

    Turbine's Joe "jwbarry" Barry has written another developer blog looking at how the team is working on the entire Evendim zone in Lord of the Rings Online. In preparation for Update 2, the team wanted to be sure that the area was meaningful and "tightened up" for players in the level 30-40 range.

  • "Solofication"

    Turbine's Bob "Maurath" Hess has penned the latest Update 2 dev blog on the official Lord of the Rings Online site. This time, devs deal with the newly minted word "solofication", or in other words, giving the players the ability to solo most, if not all, of the epic storyline.

  • Upcoming Raid Dungeon Detailed

    Turbine's Joe "jwbarry" Barry has written about a new instanced dungeon coming to Lord of the Rings Online with Update 2. Called "Ost Dunhoth", the dev blog details the cohesion that players will need to employ in order to be successful within the raid. This, Barry feels, sets Ost Dunhoth apart from the rest.

  • Welcome Back Weekend

    European players are being invited to a Welcome Back Weekend by Codemasters to herald the start of the unlimited free play version of the game. During the Welcome Back weekend scheduled for March 3-7th, players will receive double XP and new players will receive 250 points to spend in the LOTRO Store during the weekend.

  • Changes to Legendary Items Dev Blog

    Players have long called for adjustments to Lord of the Rings Online legendary items system. In a new dev blog authored by Turbine's Ken "Graalx2" Burd and Brian "Zombie Columbus" Aloisio, the secret is out that Update 2 will see some significant changes to the system and the relics system. The team will be implementing something called "Legacy Replacement Scrolls" that will help players best match their play style with the legacies that complement them the best.

  • Monster Play Dev Diary

    One of the most controversial systems in Lord of the Rings Online is Monster Play. Monster Play, or PvMP is the LOTRO equivalent of PvP and players have long called for better incentives to actually participate, complaining that the incentives weren't good enough which reduced the number of players engaged in PvMP. Turbine's Jared Pruett has penned a new dev blog about changes coming to monster play with Update 2.

  • Radiance: Good Intentions Gone Bad

    A new developer diary from Turbine's Allan 'Orion' Maki discusses Radiance in Lord of the Rings Online. He begins by saying something along the lines of "our intentions were good but it went horribly wrong". From there, Maki discusses why Radiance has been removed from the game and opens the door on the possibility that reworked Radiance will be returned to the game at some future point.

    In another Turbine dev blog post in the continuing avalanche of material being produced as Update 2 nears, Tim "Raskolnikov" Lang writes about changes coming to the character panel. Acknowledging that the character panel has turned into a "rat's nest" over the years, Lang details changes the team has in mind including moving the cosmetic panels into their own UI panel.
