The upcoming digital-expansion, "Siege of Mirkwood," will conclude the storyline of Volume II: Mines of Moria, but what of Volume III? According to a GamerZines interview with Turbine's PR Manager, Adam Mersky, Volume III will kick off in early 2010 with the game's next content update following the release of Mirkwood.
The story also originally incorrectly presumed the title of Volume III would be "Riders of Rohan," but Turbine has contacted GamerZines to clarify things:
Siege of Mirkwood will arrive in December and will mark the conclusion of Volume II of LOTRO's epic story. We will be kicking off Volume III in our first update of 2010. The story incorrectly presumed that Volume III is called Riders of Rohan. Beyond the fact that Volume III will begin with our next update, we have not released any more details about our plans for the road ahead and we will do so when the time is right.
awesome.
Good stuff
So gald im a life :D
This game always delivers. Solid.
Volume III: The Long Lake and the Lonely Mountain?
Nice, however it would be nice to know if this is going to be antother paid adeventure pack or free content update.
I wish, this is the area I most want to see added to LotRO, but from everything I've seen it looks like they have completely backed away from anything The Hobbit related east of the Misty Mountains.
The Lonely Mountain doesn't even show up on the LotRO world map and with everything else they are showing you would assume it would have too. It's almost like they don't have the rights to The Hobbit anymore.
More good news.
From my reading of the boards, it seems that there is a significant population of people that have seen the movies but not read the books that play this game. The significance of the Lonely Mountain might be lost on them. My guess is that they will wait for the Hobbit movie before releasing Hobbit areas. That way they can capitalize on the movie PR when they are advertising the expansion. I know the game is not connected with the movie, but many people will not realize that fact. There are a lot of areas left from the trilogy that can keep us all busy for now.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I read in LotRo main website (almost sure it was in their FAQ) that they only have the license for The Lord of Rings and not The Hobbit or even The Silmarillion unfortunately. Maybe in the future, who knows? Also be aware that making The Silmarillion would be as huge as making The Lord of the Rings even as a movie feature. The Hobbit though is much easier to pull off but as a story driven MMORPG as LotRo is, you would have to go back quite some 50 years (is it 50 years, can't remember?...). The Lonely Mountain though should appear once that part of the game\map is open to us since it should be filled with Dwarves and a more peaceful place to be than Moria, for example... Maybe like Throin's Hall.
Cheers!
Guys, goblin town, and gollums cave (from the hobbit) is already featured in game. Your speculation boils down to one things really. They simply have not gotten to it yet. Bilbo passed through the NORTHERN part of Mirkwood. They are about to add the southern part.
It isn't about Goblin Town or Gollum's Cave we're talking about or any parts that where Isildur, Bilbo or the Fellowship has passed by that we're talking about but that in fact we hope to see The Lonely Mountain included in game - I did say it should be "filled with dwarves" since they occupied it after Smaug's demise. Any clue in getting a new pair of glasses ;P - just messing with you but thanks to clear that up anyway.
Well I did also talk about The Silmarillion and The Hobbit, saying that one would be harder to pull off than the other and I wasn't so clear on what I wanted to express, my appologies. Anyway, they only got the license for The Lord of The Rings so my speculation is about if Turbine has the rights to include some parts of Tolkien' writtings, like the Lonely Moutain reffered here in this forum.
Turbine does have the license to the hobbit as well as the appendices to the Lord of the Rings. What they don't have is the Silmarillian or any of the later works. Tolkien sold the rights to the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings books before his death to pay back taxes or something like that. The rest of his work is owned by his son. His son will not allow anything he owns to be made into any other form but literature so none of that information is available to movie and game makers.
Well, ok. I really thought it was The Lords of theRings license only.
