  • Update 15 - A Valiant Effort from a Reduced Studio

    While Lord of the Rings Online hasn't been around quite as long as other AAA MMOs, it's still been around long enough for the short attention span of the internet to proclaim it 'forever'. Launched in April 2007, the game has taken the Lord of the Rings story all the way to Gondor, with players getting to help Aragorn take on the Corsairs of Umbar. Update 15 also brings Beornings to the table, the first new class added to the game since 2008.

  • Update 15.1 Brings Bug Fixes & Essence Changes

    The Lord of the Rings Online forum has been updated with the latest update notes. Included among the general bug fixes and feature enhancements is the news that unique essences from Central Gondor will no longer be stackable. Players will only be able to equip one of each type. The team detailed how retroactive changes will be applied alongside the long list of other patch contents.

  • The Beornings and Central Gondor Are Coming

    Recently, we were invited by Turbine to check out Lord of the Rings Online's Update 15. In it, we were presented with a first look at the Beorning class and also the new big battle that centered around the off-camera lore story of the retaking of Pelargir, an important Gondorian port that Aragorn and the Grey Company needed to liberate in order to prevent a devastating attack upon Minas Tirith.

  • Update 14: Path of the Dead to Arrive July 14th

    The next major Lord of the Rings Online content update is scheduled to hit live service on July 14th. The update brings huge additions to the game including a level cap increase to 100, three new regions to explore and slotted armor / essence system. The Path of the Dead update is free to VIP subscribers or can be purchased for 795 Turbine Points by free players.

  • New Class Coming to the Game for All Players

    During an event on the "Bullroarer" server for Lord of the Rings Online, it was announced that a new, as-yet-unnamed class will be coming to the game. Executive Producer Aaron Campbell let it be known that he had been in talked with Tolkien Enterprises about the class and that it is on that fits the lore. In addition, Campbell also let it be known that the class would be one that would be accessible to all players.

    Gamasutra is reporting that Turbine has entered another round of lay offs at the Warner Bros. Interactive owned and operated games studio. There is no indication which teams were affected, specifically whether or not Lord of the Rings Online development staff has been let go. According to the report, Gamasutra is reaching out to Warner Bros. for more specific information.

  • Helm's Deep Delayed to November 20th

    Turbine has announced via the Lord of the Rings Online Facebook page that the Helm's Deep expansion launch is being delayed until Wednesday, November 20th. LOTRO servers have had a rough few days with a power outage at the main data center. According to news published on Facebook, the backup servers did not kick in resulting in the need to restore data, hence the delay of the expansion launch.
