Originally posted by mikahr Your correct, not everyone doesn't like it, but a vast majority have had it which is why on official forums there is currently a thread entitled "Where has everyone gone?". Also, to answer your question, yes there are other forums out there where people are discussing their true feelings about U5, especially with the change in currency meant to drive players, yet again, to the store. Of course you won't find it on official forums since Turbine is censoring their boards like never before in their history to make everything seem wonderful and rosy when it is anything but. Plain and simple, a vast majority of long time players are fed up with Turbine and have left for good. Those remaining only need look at their friends list to see how long it has been since many have logged in. |

Originally posted by Wayshuba Oh really, how will curreny consolidation "drive players to the store" lol. Please elaborate, as, i guess in your mind, anything that Turbine does will somehow "drive you to the store". And, FYI, debate about converson has been pretty heated and non censured, yah i see your exuse why theres no wtfpwn number of "complain threads, "they just delete everything". Have any actual proof of that, what threads and how many were deleted? They put new instace cluster ingame. -> Yah, only to drive you to the store. They put new landmass in. -> Yah, only to drive you to the store. Most of the people left after MoM debacle and what Turbine did to the game. Theres barely any longterm players left because of that. |

I have to agree with the general consensus. It is an underwhelming expansion. Everything seems more obviously recycled. The music, the scenery, the enemies. I know there's some who say if it isn't broke then don't fix it, but LOTR the book was about a journey and seeing new things. Not the same old same old. Meh, maybe I've just been playing too long. Mirkwood seemed 'more' and that was only an extra five levels.

ROI was a ripoff. Very dumb move by Turbine that may spell the doom of their game. I have been very supportive of this game both financially and verbally. That ended with ROI. They need to hit one out of the park to get people back after this disaster. And the update was absolutely horrible. It's as if they are trying to ruin the game. |

Originally posted by mikahr A lot of us left when the game went F2P. Ive been back about a month now and find the cash shop as unintrusive of any F2P game ive played, a much better set up than EQ2. I would like to see what items people are calling P2W. As a premium player I had a ton of TP when I returned. I bought some bank space and three quest packs for my alts with the Turbine points and after Christmas will buy the ROI xpac. People are pretty vocal about not liking it but I see a lot of players in the game at all levels, so perhaps the doom and gloom is perhaps sour grapes? Whatever it is I dont see the demise of LOTRO anytime soon. |

The game is definitely better than before it hit F2P, in terms of player base. But the real problem is what it has been since Moria - not enough new content on a regular basis. Isengard didn't really help much. And at $30 (or $40 in terms of points) it's hardly a great deal for anyone. http://my.lotro.com/character/landroval/galadthryth/ |

Originally posted by trancejeremy No one is disputing that content has been slow in coming and I was very vocal about the size of Mirkwood. However, the game is now F2P and $30 for ROI, to me, isnt a lot to pay considering it will take my main and my highest alt to level cap without any more expense. I have purchased a $20 TP card and used it along with my accrued TP to purchase Misty Mountains and Eregion for my biggest alt and also Enedwaith for my main and alt when he gets there. Another $30 for ROI and I have a lot of playtime before me without spending any more cash as mine is a premium account with MOM and Mirkwood long paid for. If and when I level another alt, I will have accrued enough points for deeds to purchase Troll Shaws and perhaps North Downs and will then have a clear path to level cap for that toon as well. Considering $60 for a single player game or $50 or $60 for the latest wow clone, I feel pretty good about spending $50 on a game that I know I enjoy. |

Yeh I didnt think RoI was that good in terms of content but that doesnt stop me wanting to play... LOTRO is the only MMO ever to keep my attention for more than a month, been playing since '09 and I will probably still be here till the servers close.... I know LOTRO has lost subs due to SW:TOR, it was bound to... I spent £183 over the holidays buying pretty much every game I ever wanted on steam during the sale, yet I am still playing LOTRO right now... lol |

Originally posted by lat00uk Yeah, but we don't know yet if they will come back or not. The Hobbit movie could get new blood in, or new games like GW2 might draw more out instead, really hard to say. But they really should put some more work into the next expansion than this one, the competition is getting harder and harder now. |

Originally posted by Loke666 Don't think The Hobbit movie will bring any significant number of long-term players. Propably some short-term interest and that's it.
New Conan movie was average true, and 'The Hobbit' will be much more succesful and 'hit' movie ,but New Conan almost did not have any impact on AoC. (some AoC servers getting deserted and empty again...)
Lotro is slowly spiraling downwards , number of daily log-ins is coming down for quite a while and I doubt this trend is gonna be reversed.
There is rising suspicions that Turbine is working on new mmo and it kinda shows in quality of Lotro new content. It is medicore at best , many unfixed bugs + cash shop is getting bigger and bigger and selling more advantage. Imo Lotro is at it's 'dusk' .
It will remain operational for quite some time and it will receive updates , but there will be nothing exciting there. Turbine won't invest serious money into bringing significant updates into game like major updates to engine to allow new gameplay mechanics , bringing new models for characters , any meaningful mounted combat (there MAYBE will be one ,but it will be half-assed one as fully-featured would require drastic mechanics and engine changes) ,etc
Just more Isengards from now on and getting money from big Tolkien fans and random f2p players.
---
Not to even mention fierce competition with many big titles getting relesed in next 1-2 years to already oversaturated market. |

@mikahr
I personally agree with several others in this thread - Moria was quite possibly my favorite expansion from any MMORPG I've played. While it wasn't terribly difficult to reach the cap, I felt the quests did pace you fairly well. And that was possibly the best thing about Moria - not only were the quests fun and interesting (IMO), but Moria itself was wonderfully designed - the entire place dripped with atmosphere; there was stuff to see and do EVERYWHERE. Comparing the most recent ROI expansion to Moria seems like a cruel joke in comparision. <3 |

I just discovered that the game has had a new expansion recently and came here to ask for opinions about it. From the looks of it I'll save the 30 bucks for now. Turbine have crafted a very compelling world in Lotro, but have always struggled to fill it with content to keep all but the most casual players busy. Vanilla Lotro was a mixed bag. Some great moments, but lack of polish and lots of grind to mask the lack of actual content. So I quit for a couple years. Two expansions and a bunch of content updates later, I returned and found the game to be a blast. Moria and its dungeons were heaps of fun, I could visit old areas and solo quests I couldn't find groups for before, do legacy raids with pickups. It lasted me a couple months, during which I leveled to cap, ground out several legendaries, cleared DG with a great guild that was evidently struggling due to member burnout, finished all remaining books and tied up all loose ends. Then I ran out of things to do and quit again. Already then it became obvious that Turbine took the wrong lessons from WoW: daily quests were the new thing. It wasn't too bad in Moria, but Lothlorien and Mirkwood were full of them and were very light on content otherwise. Once I notice that I repeat the exact same routine every day on a timer instead of exploring and discovering new things I know it's time to move on. I'm sad to see that Isengard apparently follows on this path, and even declines further. Ever since the game went F2P I check back periodically to wander around and enjoy the atmosphere, waiting for new content to draw me back in. Seems I'll keep waiting for a while longer. |
