All men fear the Darkness,
But the Darkness fears me.

5 gold max?? Wow, forget about mounts.  Where did you find that info?  I couldn't find anything on the official site that spelled things out.  Tho I guess they figure if they keep folks unclear, some might ante up some cash "just to be sure" they get what ever it is they want.

Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.

You can't play Lotro 100% for free.

You will need to sink cash into the shop or become a VIP.

I plan on spending about 60 bucks total which is still way cheaper than any p2p mmo that I play.

Be smart, ask on the forums what zones/hub/skirmishes you should buy when leveling and then buy the xpacs, grab character slots, bags, AH slots and other stuff.

If your not willing to pay there are plently  F2p games that will let you grind for life to get half way to cap for free.

The more you know, the more you know you don't know.

Actually, mounts are only 200  and 500 silver now. The lower cost is the "basic" slow mount while the other is the standard mount that use to be a few gold. You can "purchase" the riding ability at level 5 OR wait till level 20 and do the race course quest. This is actually spelled out in a quest you get early on (around level 5) in the quest instructions that are placed in your inventory. And yes, so-called f2p'ers are capped in the amount of gold they can have at around 5. I believe that is in the f2p faq.

Let's party like it is 1863!

The only reason to buy the base game is 30 days VIP, the reason to buy MoM is 2 new classes, charslots, +10 levelcap and the content it offers. Best idea is usually to buy a complete edition of moria that combines the advantage of both.

Also goldcap for free players is afaik 2 gold, 5 gold it is for premiums i think. Ironically i cant check this stuff on my account yet since im still VIP, im waiting for me to drop to premium so i can actually check those things.

Edit: The problem isn't actually the gold cap. The problem for F2P are the anti goldfarmer limits active on these accounts. For example you can't sell items in the AH, yet you can also not sell items via face to face in direct trade either.

Its better to be quiet and perceived as stupid, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Thanks, all I wanted to know. Shame they kinda gimped F2P audience with quest packs so much, but what can you do.

It's not all bad. Every questpack is an investment now unlike your subscription. If you fall on hard times money wise you will keep everything you aquired, without having to argue with your better half why those 15$ a month are essential for your quality of life.

I like the turbine points awards, i got like almost 1000 tp from deeds and im only lvl 32.

And if you make a single payment, u get premium forever.

Just be happy with what you get, it's a lot worse in other mmorpgs.

Its between 11 to 13 GB i think depending on version. I will include that into a future revision when US/EU service are using the same version again.

The tp award system helps out a lot in-game. I believe it's 200 bucks for the lifetime membership.

I just created Lotro account after a major WoW burnout, and all I can say is WOW! Lotro is by far my favorite MMO now. I have been looking for the MMO experience that I had when I first played SWG back in the day and I have now rediscovered it in Lotro. You can become so immersed in Lotro and the vastness of the game is amazing.

Taters anyone?

Played lotro for some time now..

the pve and scripts are the best

the storyline is the most addictive and recognisable of all games

pvpisnt that evolved yet, but i hear some coming changed in next autumn and itll blow most of wow's meaningless non-fun pvp away :D

Thanks for the post, I found it helpful. I've been pondering over whether I should try out LotRO or not for sometime now.

One word of warning.  Turbine has done an about face about selling end game items and advantage in the store.  In my opinion, some things lately that seem if not unethical, certainly shady.

They've started selling end game exclusive to the store with this last update.  With the prior update they removed a very useful function that existed in gameplay and moved it to store only also, the ability to remove relics from endgame weapons to transfer them to other weapons.  At that time, they also overhauled the relic system and removed superior relics from the game and replaced them with lesser relics, although they allowed players with the better relics to keep them.  The catch.  If they wanted to transfer them to a new weapon, they lose them unless they pay to transfer the relics with the functionality that was just removed from the game and made store only.

Without the item, you lose relics you've worked for.  The exclusive store only item they just added is a relic in response to the outcry against the inferior relics moved into the game the prior update.  So even if you sub, it's not enough anymore.  You have to pay money for the best endgame relic in the game for some classes.  And you also have to pay money if you want to keep it when you upgrade your weapon.

Considering you have to do this even if you sub, it's like triple dipping..

The audio (not video) here is pretty telling.  Basically, if you don't mind paying for top end gear, LOTRO may be the game for you.  If you'd like to be able to earn the best gear for your class, you're probably out of luck long term with LOTRO.  They are switching from they will not sell advantage in the store to making advantage store exclusives.

They've even removed the 'Convenience, not advantage' posts they previously had prominently posted on their website because it's no longer true.  They feel more people will pay for advantage than will leave over trivializing the game.

I loved the game, but it seems to be changing to being more about fleecing its customers.

I do not think you actually understand the changes you are talking about, endgame relics are still created ingame and the reason you can't remove them anymore is because you can now much easier get exactly the relic you wantby directly creating it, instead of having to rely on luck. In other words relics are a throwaway commodity.

Besides going from talking about relics to endgame gear is a really really long way. Relics are a way to enhance your character by nuances,95% of your customization happens elsewhere. Also the totel amount of item points on store relics is the same as on ingame relics, in other words they contain exactly the same stats just in a different composition.

They are simply not an advantage, they are a sidegrade instead of a upgrade at most since they are very simply put not better than ingame ones. Infact the ones added to the store where the loosers of a community poll, the winners got added to the game ... go figure.
