Somewhat they have.

They made a few skills instant casts. These skills interrupt all skills. They have also made it so your combat skills interrupt the auto attack animations, so even though you will still get the auto attack damage you no longer need to wait for the auto attack animation to go through to get your next skill off.

This in one little package gives the illusion of faster paced combat.

(I personally am no longer playing this game after 3 years it got a little boring (Beta tester) I still have many good friends that keep me up to date on all the changes though)

When a game makes my blood pressure go up, it's time to look for a different game ;)

I am an older gamer too, and trust me, often enough I have bitched about games getting to much to quick reaction timing. I hate this console-trend. But still, I feel much of the MMO combat is way too slow. Hacking 5 minutes on one godsforsaken bear... is a sort of a snoozefest. LOTRO really could get a *bit* more fast, meaning you move faster to the next mob. My patience these years has gotten thinner, on the contrary. I have less and less patience with each additional year of age, hacking on mobs for too long. I want the foes dead quickly and then off to the next to feel more heroic. Played the slow-pokes EQ2 combat many years, but sure as hell I don't want that back.

Cool. I said I'd subscribe to this if they made combat faster and added meaningful pvp between characters. Ill see how fast they make combat before making an exception to the pvp condition since its unlikely because of the lollore.

I 3 manned the chapter 1.14.12 and it was awesome. The finally battle last well over 30 minutes and it was touch and go the whole way. I love the intesnse long battles that actually great the immersion of actually participating in the future of middle earth. I can see maybe a 1% or 2% increase in animation speed, but as far as actual time to down certain mobs, I love the slow grueling  battles that at times look like you are going to fail, but in a herioc move you get a cj or the minstrel lays out one final heal. It is amazing and the best combat I've ever played.

Faster paced or just less delay?  I think the current speed of it is fine, I just don't like how long it takes sometimes for non-induction manuevers to occur after I've tapped them.  i swear some of my induction manuevers occur faster...

If that's true, that will probably make me happy.

Turbine has stated that they will be reworking the speed of combat I think this means that if it takes your 30 secs to kill a mob now, it will still take 30secs after the expansion but, you will see more speedy/quick movements within each battle.

I personally havent had a problem with the combat system.

This criticism of slow as hell combat baffles me.

At low levels, there are fewer skills to activate.  But believe me, once you get to the high 20's, you have a ton of choices about what to use in each round of combat.

And on the Guardian at least (can't speak to other classes), you aren't just mashing the same sequence of buttons over and voer again.

Perhaps it is the lack of flashing lights and splashing blood in combat that people miss?

I like the speed of combat in Lotro.  It's not too fast, like WoW (my destro lock kills level 83 elites before they even reach him!), and not to slow, like FFXI.  My only problem I ever had with lotro was pvmp.

There are also traits and other things that decrease things such as induction times (some, even remove it), cool downs, and in some cases seed up all combat.

I Played up to 45 and am probably coming back cause i love the game but don't kid yourself this is very slow combat for any cookie cutter mmo.

Agreed. Combat is slow as hell.  Always one of the main reasons when I leave this game. Tried LOTRO several times, never getting past level 30; then I am so bored its a pain to play the game.

Still I am considering re-subbing this game right now as we speak. Maybe I can get my level 30 Minstrel to 40 this time...? I love Tolkiens work, but this game isnt quite "that" feeling.

Good thing its not a "cookie cuter" mmo, also a good thing that combat tweaks are coming with SoM.

I like LotRO, I've resubbed for SoM but not just like every other MMO?  Really?  How?  Again I like the cookie, but its still a cookie.

I enjoy the combat at the moment, I am playing warden & minstrel.

About the character models, well, they aren't perfect, but still good enough. And character animations are in my opinion fine. In my eyes, the world of Tolkien and special superpowers with flaming swords on every hand and superior animations, well, it doesn't fit to that world. It is better to have a bit more realistic movements than some supercool movements (e.g. Guild Wars)
