Originally posted by JonMichael Yeah, I agree. I don't see how anyone can play LOTRO and watch movies and surf the web as there are at times, quite a lot of text to read. And are you really giving the movie its due if you are doing something else? What the heck is happening to people! |

Originally posted by Huntress19 Oh, I'm sure. I know a young boy who is 6 who plays along with his father and enjoys it. But he's 6. When one is an adult and playing a game, watching a movie, or what have you, I would expect that they would want to give it their full attention! |

Nonsense, its called multi-tasking and these days folks are expected to do it in all aspects of their lives, even gaming. MMORPG's are perfect for it, since almost all of them have boring timesinks built into them, be it long travel times, crafting the same item endlessly, or heck, even running the same raid for the 35th time, and knowing your role by heart. While playing games I always have a few website windows open (like MMORPG.com) and have even been known to read books while killing time crafting or traveling. One fun way to kill the boredom is to play two clients on the same computer, another way I keep busy. And yes, I even watch TV sometimes, movies you've seen before are the best choice, because then you really don't have to pay constant attention, you can just watch it when you have an opportunity and you always know what's going on. But even for new shows, like episodes of Battlestar Galactica or Dr. Who the solution is to just watch them 2 times in the same evening, (the both play 2 times in a row) and you can pretty much pick up the whole story. edit: Oh yeah, almost forgot, back to the OP. You're reaction is unsurprising, especially considering your background. I lasted a bit longer, but by time I had a level 30 Guardian and 24 MInstrel, I was bored to tears for some reason and moved over to EVE. (almost a year ago now) LotRO is the best game I've ever left after 2 months of gameplay... never did really figure out why.l

Originally posted by SnorfDude, then you're cursed (or BS'ing big time...?) . I am playing since Feb 2008 (closed beta). Have 5 toons (50,45,35,30,25), and never met a single bully or elitist blockhead. And I play most FS quests in PUG's. There was only 1 single time when i put someone on /ignore for the reason how he/she behaved and acted in in a PUG (the rest were spammer /ignores only). DB |

Originally posted by KyleranWell, in EVE, you can absolutely most certainly do a LOT of other things, at least half the time you're "playing". That game is the ultra master definition of "time sinks" :) Space travel, mining, Skill learning times.... In almost every other game tho (including LOTRO, but I could mention WOW, EQ2, etc.). There only a few such timesinks, that allow you to do something else, with actually being able to pay attention to that other activity. Such are: horse travel (where there is no quick travel option), and crafting large amounts of stuffs (typically raw mats processing). If you're doing anything else, you need to pay at least so much attention, that would annihiliate the possibility of listening to something else at all.
BTW, my friend used to be an EVE addict, he also played 2 clients running at the same time :)) it really says a lot! :) DB |

Oh is that what those burning rings are for? I always though they were like... some kind of mini-game... Have to steal the ring from over their head... The more flames it's engulfed in, the better the ring is and the better the prize you get for it. Darn. So... no prizes for those things, I guess huh. :( Bummer. So I wasted money on perfectly good asbestos gloves. As it stands, I can't even play the game. My PC fried So I'm on this lousy borrowed PC from work 'til my new one arrives. It's okay though.. you all go on and have fun without me. Leave me out of the festivities. -sniff-. Cool part is, I've been playing through Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment again; quite nostalgic. Playing them through Gametap. Awesome service :-D
