Monster PvP is getting boring due to the insane unbalance of it.
any idea when PvP will be brought in game? I assume that would aslo call for the "evil" side to be played in game in some fashion.....
Is this a dead issue or will PvP be brought into game as EQ2 did at a later date? |

How many times does this have to be said? There will be no PvP in LotRO (beyond Monster Play). Why? Because if Turbine allowed good vs. evil play, the evil side would have no chance for glory. They are destined to lose.* And if they allowed good vs. good PvP, it would make zero sense in terms of the story. So THERE WILL BE NO PVP IN LOTRO. Got it? :) *Plus, this also would make chaos of the story. You'd have goblins and orcs and wargs and everything else running around all over the place, all mixed together willy-nilly. |

Originally posted by jnewlI also don't expect any PvP in LotRo beside MP, but this cannot be the reason. Even though the evil side has to loose in the end, this does not have to be during the timeline of the game itself. SWG has a lot of PvP between Rebels and Imperials, even though every player knows, that the Imperials will eventually be defeated. |

the day i heard no pvp was in Lotr i stopped following it. I mean c'mon- games aren't developed enough to make huge dynamic battles against giant cities. Only way to do this would be massive pvp battles..... Without that, Lotr becomes a giant story based on a walking trip..... but actually the game sucks because the classes all suck, who'd want to pvp in a game with such a poor combat system and abilities anyway |

This is a poor argument against playable 'evil' races and 'good vs evil' pvp in LoTRO.
MMOs typically do not have an end, except when they shut down the servers and call it a day, who is going to care by that point anyway?
I'd be a lot more inclined to play if the forces of evil were implemented as playable. |

PVE based games that try to throw in PvP end up making both aspects suffer. If you want to be able to kill players,Monster play allows for that. Your level 50 player character will be able to slaughter the monsters players. It isn't a fair contest, one on one, or even one pc against 2 monster players. I think that LOTRO made the right choice, but it did limit the enjoyment factor for some players. This isn't about which side would win, it's about having an Orc rampage through the shire killing level 1 hobbits. That just doesn't fit too well, no matter how much fun it would be to the majority of players. |

This may be a bullshit answer. But it has alot to do with why there is not PvP and playbable evil races. Another part of it is there are no bases in the books to build evil races off of. Tolkien enterprise did not give turbine the creative license to change the story anyway they see fit. There are not cities for the evil races. There is no back ground into what the evil races daily lives were like. Turbine has to follow the story and to follow it that meens that all evil races would have to be mindless foot soldiers who did their masters bidding. In short to answer your question of who cares. Tolkien enterprise cares. They hold the rights to the books not turbine. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ This is a poor argument against playable 'evil' races and 'good vs evil' pvp in LoTRO.

Turbine has to abide by their wishes or risk loosing the license to the game and the game being shut down. There are lots of reasons for not haveing payable evil races and not haveing FFA PvP. But the only reason that really counts is that tolkien enterprise says it doesn't fit the game and by them saying that turbine has too abide by it. |

Well said Grynd...... that pretty much sums it up...... Not every game is designed for classic style PVP...good thing we have lots of others to choose from coming up..... |

I enjoy a bit of PvP every now and then, but in the history of MMOs, PvP has caused a majority of nerfs. Monster play is good enough for when I want PvP in LotRO. At least I don't have to have my class gutted every 6 months. |

The "Battle for Middle-Earth" RTS Games had evil bases, evil campaigns. It worked. The Story of LotRO obviously never will reach the Destruction of the Ring, because once the first Player finishes the Scenario in which the Ring gets destroyed, all Monsters would have to vanish and everything would be peaceful again. But wait... the Tutorial played 300.000 times already, and there always was a Nazgul and some Villagers in fear, and Spiders which you killed, and a Key which broke 300.000 times in the same lock... LotRO already bends the Story and makes it utterly senseless, seen globally (that must be a damn full lock, with 300.000 halves of keys in it), I can't see a reason why Orcs, Uruks and whatever can't have the Mud bases and Quests to Pillage some Halfling Cities, or to cut down the Ent Forest thingy and whatnot, it makes sense on a personal point of view, but doesn't in a global point of view, just as the LotRO Story currently works for the good Peoples. |
