I logged in several times and couldnt advance much. Classes there are not interesting to me, maybe the mechanics, i dont know. So i wouldnt pay for it either if i dont even enjoy my character. Magicians in other mmos feel like real spellcasters while Rune Keepers just dont feel like one. I got bored of it really quick and was not interested in other classes. |

Originally posted by rojo6934 As a player of primarily DPS casters in about every major MMO since EQ in '99 I mostly agree. Though I didn't mind the runekeeper. I actually enjoyed playing it as a dps class with some minor healing spells. It is having the full range of healing abilities, while not being able to dps, which is a large negative for me. It is like having 2 clsses in one...but I only want to play one of the 2. I vrery much wish there was a more caster specific dps class. This is one of the main reasons I am not currently playing LotRO. It is unfortunate because I am a huge fan of the books/movies...and I really like the game...it just doesn't offer a class I really want to play. |

I'd have played it if the set up was 'good vs evil' and you could play and pvp against both sides.

Honestly, screenshot or it never happened. Unless this is some serious case of no life then perhaps it is possible. The only thing good about your post is: 1) telling someone to actually try it rather than asking. 2) Great community.
You guys can say this isn't a pay2win game but there is a reason why this game is going downhil within every update.
p.s - This game should now be called "Lord of the mounts". |

Huge Tolkien fan and Ive been playing LOTRO since 2008 as a lifer. Recently Ive been playing GW2 and hard to go back to LOTRO combat after dodging and fighting while moving. I still consider the LOTRO story and community maybe the best in any MMO, but the combat just seems so bad now after GW2. I have a ton of pts so will probably pick up Rohan at some point, but I am still enjoying GW2 at the moment.
A few months ago I actually logged in to my hobbit burglar and immediately tried dodging in combat. It took me a few seconds to realize what I was trying to do, lol. Yes, the combat just feels that bad now.

I played Lotro for about 2 years on and off when it was a p2p game. I'd love to play a good Lotr game but I'm afraid Turbine dropped the ball long time ago. I liked Shadows of Angmar and even entering Moria was kind of fun but everything that came after was cheap garbage imho. Rune-keepers and Greek warriors called Wardens. Really? Tolkien must be spinning in his grave. I'd play well made Middle Earth Online any time. Made by someone else of course. |

It's the best F2P (Freemium) games there is. If you don't like it, there's plenty of inferior ones to try.

I had a great time in lotro from release to mines of moria xpac, and i was even going to try it again, but then i saw their F2P model and i didn't like it.

I could care less about the store or payment model. I just want a slightly better game, more like the game was at the start. After I was on the main quest and I was asked to deliver apples and then carry the basket back it was an effort to move on to the next bit where i was asked to kill large frogs. It's hard getting immersed in the Lord of the Rings IP when one keeps getting confronted with that. |

Originally posted by flizzer LOTRO ground combat is more tactical. Mounted Combat is more fluid and action-based. One of the things I most enjoyed about Rohan was the variety in switching between the two styles. Plus of course LOTRO actually has a story behind it. |

It is a decent game in need of some work. Riding war steeds and having the movement go fast/slow is just weird. Combat on some classes is too slow and frankly quite boring. Some classes have way too many skills and this I believe they will address in the future. Questing is grindy as compared to GW2 (which I play more of these days). I am not a RAIDer or dungeon person so those really don't matter to me. I like open world bosses and miss those shard droppers (some of which were pretty nasty). Pvp needs a new area (Helms Deep?). Mounted combat is great with some classes...not so much with others. Character animation is awful. Overall a great game though and one that will persist for at least a couple more years.

I'm not comparing how fun the game was from SoA till rohan,.Rather on the content realeased and the outdatted game it stand todays. -SoA, plenty of content. Not really an expansion but the start of the game which had a lot to offer. -Moria, dear god the best expansion in mmo history, then a mini xpac lothlorien(which starting heading towards a WoW clone even more aka skirmishes and grind). But still had insane amount of content due to the success of SoA. - Now at this point the game started going downhill and the prove is that it was losing tons of customers and on the verge of f2p. Mirkwood we all know pretty much killed the game. Moria had tons of raids, dungeons, and small group instances. Mirkwood was a joke with a raid. - RoI, i'm simply not going to comment on this one the worst expansion ever that ripped everyone off. Anyone who defends it needs a reality check. I didn't mind that the game combat and everything is just slow, until RoI. Now everything is just outdatted. In defence of turbine they said they will now revamp all the classes probably to make it more action based, so lets see how that goes.

Like most if not all level based MMOs, LOTRO suffers the same "grind" mentality once you get to max level as most other games. Developers have yet to figure out a way to keep gamers engaged in the game once the reach max level that is not boring and repetitive. I have played many a level/theme park based game and loved them all up to the point of reaching max level. At that point, the "story" ends and the grind begins.....no thanks. So, I may now play an MMO but I drop my sub and will not play once I reach max level. Thinking about it more, games that I see coming down the road that are level based just do not interest me anymore no matter what the theme.
Let's party like it is 1863! |

I've left LotRO a few times, came back just as many. It's default, I sub to VIP and when I decide I don't want to play any more I unsub. It has always been a Sub game to me, always will.
