It's very simple. I was looking at an armor comparison website, and realized that from level 1-whatever max is now you pretty much look the same. There are a few semi decent sets, but nothing that really makes you look cool or sets you apart (IMO). Some of the costumes are cool, but after playing 20 levels with a bucket on your toons head even that gets old. The gameplay is fun....I like the world....I hate the lack of PVP (besides the monster play stuff) but overall it's a good game....I just don't like looking roughly the same the whole time. If they combined this games outfits thing with WoW's armor sets it would be cool. I actually remember getting some items like an eyepatch that I would wear forever in a cosmetic system if WoW had it. anyway before I get to far off track....this is my reason. And I know my spelling and grammer suck.

Heh, your right. I never got past level 25-30 myself before I grew so bored that I quit. My main hatred of the game stemed from the abilities I think, I recall them being painfully annoying, also the art style was irritating to my eyes.

With that said, I "LOVED" monster play, that kept me entertained for months, but eventually pissed me off with there being only one medium sized area for it, the fact that it took 2-3 monster players (creeps) to kill one normal human player, and that it would take literally 5+ years to reach max rank. (Coupled with how underpowered you were, it was a nightmare to rank up.)

Oh and I can honestly say that 90% of the players in moneter play were elitists that wouldn't even talk to you let alone help you if you wern't a high rank. And once I soloed my way to a reasonable rank after 6 months or so, I would be scolded for helping newer monsters rank up. Worst community I have ever experienced in ANY mmo ever. And I've played almost every mmo known to man.

TLDR: Game just isn't worth playing in my opinion.

JeroKane: In TSW your gear has NO stats whatsoever! But only via trinkets and talismans.

Myself: Please, stop posting, I can't breath I'm laughing so hard at that statement.

There is a costume tab and you can try on all the different armor even if the stats suck and when you have collected an ensemble that looks good you can display that instead.

I am aware of that as I mentioned in my post. The problem is that all of it looks to similar to me.

MMORPGs are no longer about the mass multi-user anymore *sadly*

Was about to say the same. Every season event, there's a set you can collect from the event quests. You can also get some very nice costumes from NPC merchants (some require a certain standing with their faction though). Right now I have about 6 different sets, and I collected them over the last year. There are 2 which are my favourite, so I have those fitted in the 2 default costume slots I have and the rest I wear at times...

Gotta agree with OP that most armours look the same, which kinda sucks :(

There are very few armors in the game that I wear cosmetically for many of the reasons the OP suggests.  The exception being some crafted heavy armor that my champion wears.  Odd thing though, I don't see it anywhere in that DB!  I'll have to post a pic of it when I get home.

I hated (and still do) alot of the starter armors.  Can't remember if it's light or medium, but one of them has pale striping on the legs that makes it look like you're wearing just bikini breifs and chaps on your legs!  Keep expecting "YMCA" to start playing...

I think I missed alot of good stuff that I trashed at the vendor without checking to see what it looked like.  Now I control-click every armor quest reward and yellow drop I find.

Point being, there is some pretty cool stuff out there, and some pretty good dye options.  It took having the wardrobe feature for me to start looking.

I have found much the same over the past couple of years.  It almost seems like they've been using a color palette consisting of anything muted.  However, people can say what they want about ROI - but the armor that's coming out of there seems to be much more vivid.  At least that's how I've seen it, YMMV :D!

Some of the outfits in LOTRO that players have cobbled together are absolutely amazing. My Champ gets positive comments all the time about his, it's all store bought stuff, but frankly he looks amazing.

I don't understand how you can say it all looks similar,  I have three shared bank tabs full of cosmetic gear and I could put together at least 25 different outfits that would look extremely unique and fitting to the setting. I've been back playing over the last week, and the only players I've seen that look even remotely similar are low levels with quest reward gear and no cosmetics.

Have you seen any of the new high end raid sets? They are gorgeous.

I used the preorder green Rohirrim outfit with the new mask/hood deal with the mask dyed green.  Looks pretty sweet, IMO.

You can put together some cool looking armour, but you do have to hunt around for it.   The festivals provide some cool cosmetics sometimes.

The problem is I don't think they've added new armour meshes in a few years.  They've put new textures over old meshes, but the same 4 or 5 shoulder pad meshes are the same, the same hauberk meshes are the same, and so on.  You can only do so much retexturing the same mesh.  I understand it costs a lot to create new meshes (developer Floon explained why before he moved on to a new project), but after 3 years or so I think it's incredibly cheap of them.

Someone posted a new level 75 purple (rare) cloak in global Friday night on Crickhollow.  I clicked the cloak to view it in the dressing room and it has the same ugly 2 tone graphic as the level 5 cloaks you get from newbie quest rewards.  It's ridiculous really.

The new Rohirrim outfits are amazing. I don't have one, and I'm extremely jealous about it lol.

I believe in life before death... So dont forget to enjoy it while you still can.

About the outfits...

Did you ever read or see LOTR?

This game isn't high fgantasy, but much more down to earth and medieval, i think the game including the gear looks really captures the stories and the mood Tolkien set for his world....

And in the end your name is not written by the armor you wear, but by the deeds you have done... People that are intoo fantasy litterature will love the setting much more then all those other high flashy MMO settings, did you ever realise that Magic is a rare thing in almost all Fantasy literature?

This game has more depth in a single chapter of the books then most MMo's will ever have, but then enjoying most of that depth requires that players have the abbility to read....

On top of that, combat espescially in dungeons has more depth then in almost all other MMO's compared to the typical WoW bunch, this game really stands out.... But only for those people that take the time to recognise that. And on my current roleplay server, community is as good as it will ever get in any MMO... and those that normally ruin a community get banned to play monsters....

Makes me wonder since this game is obviously not your cup of tea, what brings you to this forum to discuss it? .... I normally stick to the forums of those games that i do like to play......

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package)
Worst MMO experience : FF XIV
Currently playing : GW2

I agree with the OP. But what was also a turn off for me, was the combat. It is very uninspired combat. The animations, the slow combat, the long drawn out fights against very uninteresting critters (insects, rodents, deer wtf) turned it into a snorefest to me. Especially having to fight normal animals again and again at higher lvls.

I like the groupcombat though, but I prefer Vanguard's system of interactivity with groupmembers. Although LOTRO presents it better with their conjunction system.

though I completely agree with you and agree that the armor and weapons should not be over the top fantasy fluff I do think that the gear/weapons we have are a bit silly. I'd prefer slightly more realistic.

To be honest, some of the stuff in the movies felt more organic to the lord of the rings universe. some very beautiful work by those artists.

This is a subject that goes waaaaaaaay back into beta days. The answer from turbine is that they were going for a mideval european style armor and armor that can realisticly be used without poking ones eye out on its pointy shoulder pieces (WoW). And not to mention keeping close to how some was described in the books.

Indeedy.  I'm glad they've kept to that.  Even if WoW had improved graphics, I'd still prefer the less stylized look of LotRO.  For me, all the armor in WoW kinda looks the same; huge shoulderpads(I grew up in the 80's, I'm quite done with shoulderpads, thanks much!), pointy bits sticking out everywhere... high level players just look like some pin cusion kinda thing like you'd find at the bottom of Coral Reef or something.  Maybe one is blue.  Maybe one has crackly energy or something... meh, IMO...

To each their own, but I'm glad LotRO stuck to a more down to earth design.

I hated the bland look of the armor progression and the slow combat. It's still a good game if those things don't bother you, but they do for me :D

I sort of like the look of the armor sets.  To me they fit well with the art stylings of the game.

On the other hand, I can imagine some would take issue with the looks because in many games the trend is for highly stylized flashy armor.

Do the female sets also have this low fantasy feel to them?  Anymore it's rare to see female MMO characters that aren't half naked.
