It's interesting to see how many of these features they are implementing in Book 10 and Book 11. They've confirmed for sure that they're adding housing, fishing, more cities, more dungeons, more regions, and new monsters. Some of the other points you've mentioned are things they've hinted at coming down the road in the distant future. The only ones I haven't seen any confirmation or denial of are the 48 player raids.

It was known before the start of LOTRO that this wouldn't be a pvp game. It would have some but not much. Go and play WoW if you like pvp-ing.

Lotro needs to be Lord On the Ring Online.
okay... have you played this game? I bet you have but just asking.

Turbine, being the good company that they are, has made LoTro a someone NON GRINDING GAME. May i say that again, SOMEWHAT, non grinding. Its built for the casual gamer. Definintion of casual gamer as stated by me imo, is someone who plays frequently , but not all the time like say a hardcore gamer is.

The casual gaming aspect clears over a whole lot of unnessasary dungeons,  hardcore PvP, and a gigantic world.

However, what Turbine does, is it updates the game, and listens to its customers. They do so in said updates, such as book 11, coming in the fall, that introduces instanced player housing( your first concern) more monsters for PvMP( your second to last concern) dungeons and more areas to explore. If you played in June, you will know that they update, and add, due to the addition of the lake area, the name doesnt come to mind however. Added areas also increase the amounts of cities that can be explored and cleared( quest wise)

So in reality, LOTRO is a great game. Its not made to suit the hardcore gamer that wants tier 5 gear to pew pew people in PVP. Its made so people can relax, finish quests, and feel good about the gaming enviornment their in.  My ending statement is this...

LOTRO is a growing game, several months in the making, we have yet to see further success and expansion of this game... thats not a opinion, its the truth... so GG on yet another useless post to try to diminish a game.

If you read anything, this takes place during the time line of the hobbit to the first book of the main trilogy, not the movies. The huge battles didn't take place yet. Mind you that there is an expansion that offers more lands that Tolkien wanted published but never came to fruition.

Sure All the uber popular sites arn't there, but hey, they will be. Read the forums, read the news; they say more will follow. To sit and think the game will never expand to all the sites is just plain stubborness on your part. Sure, Aoc and WAR is going to be better or WoW is roxxor in teh boxxorz, but if your a Tolkein fan, you'll appreciate what they have, and the story line they give you. I've ran through the chapters in both closed/open and now live and i felt like i was doing something, like i was helping the fellowship.  Your not the hero of the game, your one of the many unsung heroes that was never talked about in the books.

If you don't like the game, move along and go to another part of the site that has the games you enjoy and talk about them, don't come around here bitching about how it doesn't have what you want. Your opinion has been acknowledged, but don't flame something just for the sake of griefing others.

i have the books
I know Tolkien's world since 27 YEARS
never spoke about PJ
this is NOT lord on the ring that's all. this ... don't know maybe eriador online ?
Never saw giant insects in marshwaters in the books or strange animals in ....?? what's that ? angmaur ?
What about Witchking at the same age of King of Angmar ? What's that ? Giant spiders in Archet ? LOL

I wanted LOTR i have lotro
ok understood, i'll never take it.
this is not lotr it's a wow clone + some areas taken from the books. I don't like wow = i don't like lotro.

maybe one of these days another cy or maybe turbine but in 2/3/4 years ?
gonna make a COMPLETE Lord on the ring online.
Must wait BECAUSE i KNOW the BOOKS

hastalavista baby

I dont understand what you want from this game MMO2007.. are you saying you dont want anything to kill? Your having issues with the fact that people have giant spiders and insects in the Marshwaters.. What game do you want to play? Running around and waving hi to people Online? ( RAAWHTPO) Honestly, it would be a stupid and utter move on Turbine to not include a mission/quest system that involves killing things.

I reply to mmo2007,either you are lying about reading the books,or it has been 27 years since you read the books.Did the books ever say there weren't giant insects in the marshes,or giant spiders in archet? There are freaking walking talking trees in the books, why not these creatures? And even if  there aren't,what are the players goingto fight? Grass!? People need to stop being so uptight about the lore,it fine to keep true to the lore, but when it deminishes game ply,you have gone too far.

  Agreed 110 percent

You're  nit-picking about a  detail in a  fantasy game, that takes  place in a  fantasy world. That in itself is a bit ridiculous.

Let me try and put it in perspective. If someone were to ask you to describe an important event that happened to you in a given area... Say you got to go somewhere you'd always wanted to. How are you going to relate the experience?

Would it be something like this?

"As I was walking down the street, I noticed the large white birds nearby that are common to my area and not at all unusual to see. I kept walking and as I passed by an old house, I noticed a large rat - they're all over the place in some areas of my neighborhood.  I was then distracted by the sound of some crickets in the nearby grass... and noticed a spider climbing the wall of another house as I passed by... It was then, as I was nearing my destination, that a bumblebee landed on some nearby flowers..." and on and on...

Can you about imagine the eyes of your poor audience glazing over at this point, wishing you'd get to the point, especially as all those animals have absolutely no impact on the story you're telling? Had you omitted those from the story and kept to the point at hand... would that have meant those creatures don't really exist? Or, that for the sake of serving the story, they didn't bear mentioning.

The point I'm getting at is, because something isn't specifically pointed out in a book doesn't mean it couldn't have existed. *Especially* in a work of fiction.
As for the overall landmass available now, what they're doing is very deliberate. From a story-telling perspecitve, it's logical, as they're following the story of the ring's journey East.

From a design stand-point it's extremely smart. They chose not to create the entire game world at once and, likely, ending up with something not unlike what many complained of in their own Asheron's Call 2, or even in Vanguard - a huge, mostly barren world with an inordinately large amount of empty/unused space. They instead decided to tackle the game, and the world, in smaller, more manageable chunks. This allows them to really dig in, make the world seem less desolate, more detailed, and allows them to keep the possible bugs/issues to a minimum. I know in my travels around the current areas, even when I wander off in some random direction, there is never a lack of detail... nothing seems like it's just "there" or contrived. It all seems very "right". At least to me.

And it also helped to contribute to what was, unarguably, a very stable and solid release overall.

i agree to all of those, that would make the game soo much better, but they are adding in Housing and fishing.

My contribution for additions to the game:

The ability to type in way-points

Automatic notification in guild chat that a kinship member has leveled.

The ability to talk to a NPC in a town to ask the whereabouts of another NPC

Decorative mounts

Decorative herald armour.

A barbershop for heralds

The ability to enter buildings in more towns.

The ability to purchase homes in Bree

This was actually the best argument I've seen for pvp balance, better than most of the drivel I've been forced to read but ultimately it also rings pretty hollow how many people do you know wanted to play one of the orcs from lotr? me not many it's not like these guys have some kind of stormtrooper rep or something no one is teaming to play as most of the forces Sauron had on his side hillmen maybe but those things in monster play hardly
