In today's round of voting in the 2010 Reader's Choice awards here at MMORPG.com, we invite you to check out this year's nominees for the Best F2P game of the year. Check out the choices, cast your vote and let us know why you chose as you did!

By Drew Wood on December 11, 2010

This year, our categories are: Game of the Year, New Game of the Year, Most Innovative, Most Improved, Best F2P, Favorite Company, Biggest News Story, Most Anticipated, and the newest, and most dubious, addition to our prizes, Biggest Disappointment.

In order to qualify for this category, a game must have had a significant impact on F2P gaming during the year 2010.

Vindictus

Nexon have delivered mightily on the F2P Action-MMO front with Vindictus. Interesting and easy to understand gameplay, beautiful visuals and an engaging story help raise Vindictus to the top of this genre.

Runes of Magic

Though easy to dismiss as yet another example of formulaic MMO making, Runes of Magic breaks through the mould with a solid user interface, familiar and easy to pick up gameplay, and, a feature always nice in F2P gaming, Dual Classing.

Everquest II: Extended

While it may seem odd that a stripped down version of one of the classic MMOs of the 2000s could even begin to crack this list, EQII:EX takes just enough of the original P2P game and makes it free, keeping the spirit of the original fully in tact.

Lord of the Rings Online

It could be argued that no other game to go F2P has seen such a steep increase in player satisfaction. The visuals are stunning, the gameplay and storytelling are ever-improving and J.R.R. Tolkien's universe is well represented. What's not to like?

Wizard101

While not the pinnacle of experience for hardcore gamers, with KingsIsle's Wizard101 you've got a solid family experience for a cheap-as-free cost. Even the extended content that's available to you if you have a subscription comes at a family friendly cost!

Dungeons & Dragons Online

Turbine again hits it out of the ballpark with an F2P title. DDO, one of the first true F2P success stories, continues to provide us with solid content, fun and engaging gameplay, and one of the kings of Nerd Culture IPs. This come-from-behind victory exemplifies what F2P should be.
