Two intrepid spies infiltrated the Square Enix offices in search of top secret information on the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV beta test, which is set to begin sometime this Summer. What they found was the beta's character creation interface, where they then proceeded to explore the customization options on offer for the cat-like Miqo'te race.

Game: Final Fantasy XIV
More eye-candy I guess, but still no content it seems and probably just a lot more asian level grinding.
Thu Jun 10 2010 11:47AM Reportnothing new
Thu Jun 10 2010 12:36PM Report... Weird ass ppl "infiltrated" Square Enix offices, and made a character in Final Fantasy XIV...
Thu Jun 10 2010 12:37PM Reportperfect world has way better character costumization, and im not even talking about All Points Bulletin's character costumization...
btw the video was ridiculus in many aspects.
Thu Jun 10 2010 12:50PM ReportCharacter creations looks nice, but this video is horrible...
Thu Jun 10 2010 12:51PM ReportYou guys lack a creative mind.
This video what a cute way to Display The OBIVIOUS ... caracter creators that any MMO and its mom as....
well done. The Caracters looks Lively. Will be waiting for more
"spies" episodes from them.
Thu Jun 10 2010 1:10PM ReportI wasn't expecting any crazy character customization (partially because they said there wasn't going to be), but I am VERY impressed with the interface and layout of the character creation screen. It looks REALLY different from most games and a lot more...I don't know how to work it...intuitive? I like all the moving around. Although some gameplay would be nice.
Thu Jun 10 2010 1:28PM ReportI like the customizations. Those attributes with guardians look like they are going to be very intensive. Pick the wrong guardian might set you back with your other attributes but we will see. Can't wait for release :)
Side note: If it's "two intrepid spies", who's holding the camera filming it? Author missed that obvious one.
Thu Jun 10 2010 1:56PM ReportThey need more face and hair options : )
The video was funny but the guy was kind of creepy for the 1st half. lol
Thu Jun 10 2010 2:21PM ReportWow.. amazing... Aion is great!
Thu Jun 10 2010 2:21PM Reportthe guy in the video doesn't need to be there... he's just annoying everything she does and asking how many options there are for each part of customization.. oh and the vertical hold effect is just annoying while i'm trying to watch video...
Thu Jun 10 2010 2:46PM ReportI don't care too much about character creation, but what I do care about is game play, progression, and how your character changes and or becomes unique over time ( armor, weapons...and so on).
Thu Jun 10 2010 3:03PM ReportThe character creation looks pretty great. But the whole premise of this video with the spies was way too cheesy, and the guy speaking english was soooo annoying. lol
"Yeah, nice full lips... mmm..."
Thu Jun 10 2010 5:00PM ReportLoving the look of the character creation interface, and definitely going to have fun customizing my character what with the options they give now.
Also have to -roll eyes- at the people responding to the video with either the same old, canned responses or criticizing everything but what the video is actually intended to demonstrate. Sad, sad people.
Thu Jun 10 2010 5:21PM ReportNice interface and lovely looking models.
Loving the high production values FFXIV obviously has.
Thu Jun 10 2010 6:21PM ReportType 1,2,3,4 so much customization!
Bleack. Asian games don't care about customization and many of them barely give options. Only a few exceptions that expect to sell to western markets bother.
That system looks like every other standard thing. 4 hairstyle, face, voice options and handful of colors. Ooo ahh.
Show us some combat/world interaction and then I'll get excited.
Thu Jun 10 2010 7:01PM ReportCharacter 'lack of' customization is more like it.... *thick sarcasm* Way to keep pace with current MMO's SOE. :(
Thu Jun 10 2010 7:21PM Reportjesus christ this video was annoying
Thu Jun 10 2010 7:57PM Reportim finding this so unwatchable, they guys voice, camera, it would have been fine if it was just taken from the screen :(
Thu Jun 10 2010 8:09PM ReportHe looks and sounds (albeit like a waaay less cool version) of my buddy Ross.
Thu Jun 10 2010 8:34PM Reportthat was retarded
Thu Jun 10 2010 10:59PM ReportThis kicks FFXI customization to the curb! I like so far...can't wait to see other races.
Thu Jun 10 2010 11:26PM ReportUrrrggghhhh >.< The guy was both irritating and creepy
Fri Jun 11 2010 12:59AM ReportPoint 1: The guy is LITERALLY translating what she is saying. He's sometimes off but those of us who speak japanese realized this.
Point 2: Yes there are "4 types" but what if each type has their own hair, eyes, features, etc customization? Its a TEASER
Point 3: Being in the alpha currently the customization showed in the 'beta teaser' is leaps and bounds ahead of what we currently have AND ITS NOT ALL OF IT.
summary: read, be education, be peaceful, peace out
Fri Jun 11 2010 10:15AM ReportPlease next time just show us a character creation video. I had a strange feeling with this 2 people acting like they are infiltrating the office.
Fri Jun 11 2010 10:55AM Reportwooooot highlights!
Fri Jun 11 2010 3:06PM ReportFinal Fantasy Fails. FFF? Never understood why so many people love FF franchise. Whenever I hear the words "cat-like race" I know it's time to drop the game and back away very slowly.
Fri Jun 11 2010 4:00PM ReportOkay 1, whoever said "Aion looks great" WTF are you doing here.
2 Whoever said "Way to keep up with current MMO's SoE" Go shoot yourself. This is Square Enix not SoE.
3. Whoever said "oh wow, 4 faces 4 hair styles... same as everywhere else" YOU obviously WEREN'T paying attention.
Lack of customization? No from what I saw is you choose a race then a sub race then a character build then from there you cutsomize even further. Now they didn't go into teh other sub-race or the other character builds. So who's to say the "4 faces" and "4 hairstyles" on those aren't completely different from the other builds/subrace?
And honestly it was about 6 or 7 hairstyles which is a very big improvement from FFXI
Pretty sure you guys are just morons.
Fri Jun 11 2010 11:08PM Report@haven2035
Oh boo hoo. Go play APB, CoX, CO, EQ2 or even Aion and look at their character creators.
It makes this look like crap. It doesn't matter how much its "leaps and bounds above FFXI" when its leaps and bounds behind many other customizable creators. Especially since it has lack of sliders and everything is preset.
Models are looking good though. Now if only the control scheme doesn't suck like FFXI
Fri Jun 11 2010 11:33PM ReportThis actually looks pretty decent.
Sat Jun 12 2010 2:09AM Report@Xersues lol! Yeah and how popular those games are. Sorry but the majority of the games you just listed either run like crap, ARE crap or were a huge disappointment.
EQ2? seriously? ROFLMAO
Sat Jun 12 2010 11:07PM Reportgame like this should be much more options character creation like Aion!
Mon Jun 14 2010 2:07AM ReportThe character customization looks good to me. I don't need sliders to feel like a free bird. However, I really don't like the way the English speaker talks about the features because he sounded too creepy even for fan-boy standards.
Wed Jun 16 2010 5:41PM Reportto those who complain about it only having 8 hairstyles, please tell me a game that has much more than that? I know none of the bigger name games have more than 10 or so, sure they might not be listed like in wow and just some arrows, but if you count each unique one you barely have more than 10 per race/gender, and considering FFXI has race/gender/clan, how are you going to say it has less, since maybe the sun and moon kitties have different hairs, and in eq2 they are just named fancily, but its still not many more than 10 or so.
Wed Jun 16 2010 7:56PM ReportWow...that guy was just...creepy.
Sat Jun 19 2010 8:43AM ReportNot only is it way more customization than FFXI, but I don't think most people get the point here. Westerners(particularly Americans like myself) always have to stand out aesthetically. The difference is that in Japan, they worry more about your actions, abilities, and accomplishments. Japanese players care less about the mole on their face, and more about their crafting levels, rare drops, and fishing skill. I'm with them.
You guys want more customization? Play Second life, and thanks for stopping by.
Wed Jun 23 2010 1:24AM Reportmoe masu... didn't expect to hear that out of the lady lol
Mon Aug 09 2010 6:38PM Reportthey poly work for them haha just to show up a tiny bit of it
