Hello everyone I played FFxi but lost interest due to the pc movement is there a special controller that I can purchas that will make my experiance enjoyable or are they going to make the keyboard more friendly for pc users. If there is nothing to be done about the controls ill just wait for the ps3 release. And whats with all the negativity about this game it sounds great.

Really, any controller shaped like a PS3 controller (virtually every PC controller ever made) will be sufficient. Heck, you can probably use your PS3 Controller for your PC, if I'm not mistaken.

Logitec makes good controllers. Solid, reliable, and cheap.

Just pick up any from Wal-mart. Doesn't have to be fancy.

ok cool why dont they just sell the game with a controller it seems like the movement issue is actually turning ppl away from the game. Or maby they should just bring the consol version out first that would make more sense. Well anyway im going to pick this game up im sure it will be great just wish ppl would stop bashing it so much theres lots of negativity on these forums. Another is also I am running an asus laptop with only a single gtx 260m cuda 1gb card with 8g ram and core 2 duo processor will I be able to run this game well I heard the last game required an uber pc to run it good.

The game is perfectly playable via keyboard + Mouse. While it can feel a little overwhelming to people used to an easier to use interface with keys bound to journals, character sheet, etc, FFXIV is surprsignly easy to get into.

Later once you start collecting a myriad of skills you can be overwhelmed and find yourself lacking using a Controller. The use of Macros is almost necessary to play the game in the later levels if you plan to do so with a Controller.

While it is not impossible to play the game using either method, it takes some adjusting.

For now, I suggest you try the keyboard + Mouse combo. Get used to it. Familiarize yourself. And later, when you are higher level, you'll find that you're already proficient enough and won't have to "re-learn to walk" sort of speak.

As for the game.. It is a very hardware heavy game. It's very CPU intensive and while the game can be played with fairly decent framerates out in the world, visiting cities and retainers can put your computer to the pace of a snail. It is definitely a game made for the power hungry amongst the computers.

If you think response time is slower with a Keyboard + Mouse, then a Controller is worth investing in. $10 can buy you a good controller that will last you a while. Bare in mind that many controllers do not come with software that lets you emulate keystrokes, and I'm unsure whether FFXIV allows you to bind keys. if it doesn't, you will have to use external programs to do so. Also, keep in mind that the "Glue mouse" is being fixed at launch with the introduction of Hardware Mouse support. While this won't solve your frame rate issues, you should notice a much more reliable and faster mouse.

I never had to edit my keybindings in FFXIV as I felt confident enough with the controls that I didn't need to. Anyway, sorry for the long post. Carry on.

Your ps3 wireless controller does work on your PC. Just need to attach the charge cable and download ds3tool from motioninjoy.com. As for lag, your system should be able to handle it albeit a bit laggy.

My old system had a Q6600 2.4ghz, 4g DDR2 800, Radeon 4850 1gig and it ran pretty solid until I entered the adventurers guild or was at the first aetheryte crystal.  I also benchmarked a 1.4k with that build, and the benchmark said it would be completely unplayable with that score.

My new build gets 4.3k with everything in CCC maxed, I can't wait to OC it and see what I get.

EDIT: Also, the game is very GPU intensive, is built for 64-bit, and supports multi-threading FYI. SLI/CrossFire support due in the future.

Go to this site:

http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/media/benchmark/na/

download and run the benchmark. You can run it at either 1920x1080 or a lower resolution. If you score 1.4k-1.6k it will be playable but laggy in busy areas. 1.2k-1.4k and it will be playable but laggy all the time. Anything above and you're fine.

It's built for 32 bit...I think

FINAL FANTASY® XIV for Windows® Recommended System Specifications

You could also pick up a cheap xbox 360 controller.  Xbox controller is nice because you don't have to download any special software, just plug it into a usb port and windows automatically loads the appropriate software.
