Final Fantasy 14 to be featured at GamesCom 2009

Square Enix have announced their line-up for GamesCom 2009, which takes places 19th-23rd of August 2009. The line-up consists of highly-anticipated games and it appears they have chosen Final Fantasy 14 to be amongst these titles as the snippet below shows.

FINAL FANTASY XIV
Developer: Square Enix Co., Ltd.
Brand: Square Enix
Platform: PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system / Windows PC
Genre: MMORPG
Release Date: 2010

During E3 2009, FF14 was given a surprise announcement and we can be sure that it will play a much more significant part of GamesCom 2009 and hold the interest of gamers across the globe, not hindered by it’s planned simultaneous release in German, French, English and Japanese.

This is great news for our readers who do not have to wait till TGS (Tokyo Game Show) 2009 for additional information but instead have to wait merely a month to be able to learn a lot more about the game and how it will function. Highly anticipated is information on the weapons based levelling system and the more strategic battle system and last but definitely not least, concrete beta details. We are just hoping that Square Enix will treat us to such information.

ScrawlFX - The Gamer's Source is reporting the following : in response to the same images sa1yaman is posting on...

"Humans are now called Hyuran, and have undergone basically no change. Tarutaru are now Lalafell, and have grown a lot taller in this game. Galkga are now called Roegadyn, losing their tail and gaining size in comparison to XI. Whether or not there are any new races is still unknown.

There are four categories of jobs, with two jobs unveiled for each.

Fighter: Swordsman, Archer
Sorcerer: Enchanter, Warlock
Crafter: Blacksmith, Cook
Gatherer: Gardner, Fisherman

When you make a character, you'll choose your race and appearance. Customization goes from head, skin color, hair type, and more. That's about all we got from these new scans. We'll have to wait for GamesCom later this month for more on the game."

Frankly, I couldn't give a rats arse for another video of a rendered cinematic. Of course that's going to look awesome, Square kicks ass in this detartment and has a few stand-alone movies to prove it.

Lets see some in-game shots and vids! Is it to look like FF13? surely if its to be launched by 2010, it has to have some level if playability now that scereenshots could be shown, at the very least.

my hope, is that they will show some game play footage as well as disclose some juicy details

realistically i bet SE just throws us some tidbits like character races, and maybe a little about combat and the leveling through weapon skills system. i can dream though

I have a feeling that they're going to show a trailer that mixes a voice over with some cgi cinematics and some real gameplay. Not enough gameplay to dicern how the game will actually play but enough to show what the graphics will be like.

Obviously you didn't listen to the interview about the video shown at E3. The mithra casting a shield barrier is 'in-game' footage is what the dev said. The game is made on the same engine as FFXIII, the white engine.

Lets just hope they dont put the System Req. to high, other wise it mite leave some of the FFXI players behind...Mite. Good to hear, I cant wait to find out  more about it. FFXI was my very first mmo, and got excited and squiled like a little school girl when I heard they were making a new FF mmo!

I don't know about anyone else, but for me, the system requirements of an acclaimated game indicate whether or not it's time to upgrade my system.

Hate to tell you that they are having pretty high requirements for the game, I already know they are requiring Vista or higher, NVIDIA GeForce 8600 and 2GB RAM to run the game at low settings.

I am kind of glad they are making high requirements to put the game on max. Tells me the game will look great and be a true next-gen MMO which I have yet to see one on the market (and no Aion is not next-gen looking to me, although it is a good game)

It doesn't really cost that much to double/triple those computer specs now to be honest.

Agreed, sorta. This is a game where I can finally utilize my PS3. Also being on the PS3 I have alot of confidence that the system specs will now have to actually be matched by the PC and not the other way around as it was for FFXI. The PS3 is a BEAST and I likes it that way.

I'm good to go atm with 9800gt and 3.2G of ram. The only thing I would have to do is upgrade IF the made it Vista only as im still running XP.

Good points too :), it only cost me $150 to upgrade from a 8500gt to a 9800gt (had the power supply to support the 9800 so did not need to upgrade it) and from 2g ram to 4g (3.0-3.2 recognized by XP). Personally im willing to upgrade to Vista and what ever need be for a really good MMO at this point, I have pretty much lost intrest in most of them that are out now. Hell even if its just an updated FFXI I'm Game.

Are you srs? GFX chip in PS3 was pretty mediocre in fkin 2005 when it was released. Next year it will be on level of integrated chips and such. My hope is that crystal tool allows great scalability and SE puts it to good use with PC version.

PS: I own PS3 too.

nice images! looks to confirm 5 of the classes from FFXI. Interesting to see what other classes will pop up and if they are going to put in female galkas and male mithras (or whatever the FFXIV equivilents will be called)

I hope they pop in a new race or 2...although it would be cool to be able to play a male mithra.
