Just wondering is this gonna be like one of those games where you grind it out to max then just do pvp and try to get best gear etc? oh yeah with a lil bit of story inbetween?

Im hoping that it is a pure pve machine..one that is engaging in story and really immerse you in dungeons etc. league of legends spoiled me with their pvp and after playing that for so long i honestly could care less about doing pvp in mmorpgs. The most fun i have in themepark mmorpgs is the pve. pvp is fun there are so many games offering pvp like planetside, streetfighter, sports games etc that i could look somewhere else for competition.

I dont mind small pvp like duels and what not just dont want endgame to just boil down to pvp deathmatches. So with that being said is this the game i can look forward to meeting Most of my criteria..no game is perfect but if it has most of what im looking for im game!

I don't understand what you mean, what would you like to see?

I wouldn't say it is just grind it out to max then pvp and try to get the best gear (PvP runs on a completely seperate system so it will not drive character progression for PvE at all, it is also likely not to ever be a huge focus of the game).

Are you against PvE endgame content too?  If so even in 1.0 there was story progression past max level which challenged players to complete it not for gear but for the story.

You could also do content for fun, or "spontaneous" events that only have small rewards (like useful potions etc.) these were common towards the end of FFXIV and will likely make their way into ARR in some shape or form in the FATE system ("dynamic" content).

Though there will also most definitely be character progression through drops and quest rewards.  So if you don't like that you will be disappointed (unless you can choose not to participate in it and only do content up until a certain point in progression).

Short Answer: A Realm Reborn will be much more PVE driven and story driven. If you're looking to work with a team to achieve difficult goals, this is your game.

Long Answer: Always a good place to start: Everything You Need to Know About FFXIV A Realm Reborn

The Producer for FFXIV has stated Openly that he is a big fan of PvP gameplay, so you can expect a well fleshed out PvP system. That said, he has also made it a point to stress that PvP will be a self contained aspect of gameplay. The major focus of FFXIV will be story driven content.

PvP will consist of two major components:

Coliseum battles - Small scale PvP fights inside a static arena with spectator seating. That is basically all that is confirmed. I think it is pretty easy to assume that these fights will come in a few basic forms.

Friendly Challenges - One player challenges another and they enter the arena and fight.

Tournaments - Players register to participate in a laddered competition with the Semi Finalist competing for the Championship

PvPvE - Small scale Battles where Player fight to take down a group of enemies. Winner likely dependant on who scores the most points in some form.

Battlefield PvP - Free Companies(Guilds) will compete for control of a special Zone defined as contested territory. It has been inferred that this will somehow involve the Grand Companies from game lore competing for Resources in some way. No further information has been provided.

That's pretty much all we have to go on at the moment. Most of the games content revolves around PvE combat. Instanced Dungeons, FATE(Open world cooperative HNM Battles), Quest and Storyline. There will also be Summon battles and Beastman Strongholds carried over from the Original game. FATE style events are also likely going to encompass "Hamlet Defense", a PvE battle to protect NPC settlements and Behest, a standard culling of Landscape style monsters culminating in a Boss fight.

The producer has also emphasized that he intends to implement a series of Fan service style Content. The Golden Saucer Casino will appear in some form for casual Arcade/Gambling mini-games. The Crystal tower will also make it's triumphant return as a Large Scale progressive PvE Raid. There is also talk about a Labrynth Style zone which culminates in the Ultimate Battle against FFXIV-ARRs story based Creater, Bahamut.

Let's home Yoshida has some other goodies to show off in the upcoming Live Producers letter.

Oh yeah, let's not forget, Odin will be roaming the Land waiting for a worthy adversary to take him down and grant full control of his power to the Most Powerful Free Companies of Eorzea. Just remember, it's first come first serve. Only one Guild can hold his power at a time.

a game to me that did pvp just like how i want is this older game perfect world international. i basically played on a pve server and i believe it was like for 2 days they would basically have territory wars. so then u could pvp for territory through guild vs guild battles. so it wasnt too much pvp where you doing it everyday just enough to have some quick fun and back to your journey.

i like end game raids and going through older content helping people. crafting and just chillig in town talkin to people and what not.

thanks for the posts..im happy its going to be more pve than pvp.

From what we know the game has an incredibly in-depth housing system and chocobo raising system (that allows you to train them as combat pets). I have a feeling these two systems alone will add a lot of variety for things to do, and there are more on the way including the golden saucer.
