From what I've seen of FF XIV: ARR, it is a very detailed tab targetting game. The quest hubs still are the main source of any xp and they are still sticking with the stupid leve system. While FFXI is an extremely out-dated game, I'm sure that FFXI veterans are going to call this a disgrace to the franchise, much like FFXIII was for the single-player versions of the FF series.

People like what they like. I loved XI until abyssea killed it for me. And nothing has came close to filling the gap XI did. People liked WoW i dident it looked like a cheap saturday morning cartoon . But i know a lot who feel the same as i do. To each there own i guess

I played FFXI for about 4 years, and frankly, what I've seen of FFXIV:ARR isn't giving me any of the old XI feeling.

If that was the direction ARR was taking, Yoshi wouldn't have his team play WoW to learn the "modern standards".

If you liked abyssea play ffxiv and enjoy it.  If you think abyssea ruined ffxi then don't bother with ffxiv.

Well I am am FFXI vet since 2003 and I love what they have done so leave this speculation at door.

I might be reading what you wrote wrong. But in FFXI (PRE abyssea) you had to go exp party to gain exp , later they added the books i forget the name of them it helped with solo players , then there was the battles in WG were people would go gain exp and work on caping there weapon skills , after that was the past witch had fights in areas you had to defend if you did well you got great exp and was also more for the solo player . This was all PRE abyssea . When Abyssea came in about 2 or 3 years ago now it changed the whole game. Gone were the days of working on your job learning it mastering the job. Now with Abyssea at lv 30 you could go pay a LS 50k gil per hour in a Abyssea zone and go from 30 to 85 ( cap is now 99 i think ) in about 6 hours and you did not have to do anything you could AFK the whole time. Something that before abyssea would have taken two months or more. Or you could get a party in Abyssea and play and have the same results in the same amount of time. Now i did play
XIV for about 10 months so i did not get all the changes but from when i played my LS would gather get the same Leve quests link them all to gain extra exp then go do them and fail at the end to keep the leve . After leves we would do it old school FFXI style and party exp . NO WAY was anything in XIV like FFXIs abyssea . The cap for XIV will be 50 i remember in XI the cap was 75 when i started and stayed at 75 for like 6 years or so. Give it a year the cap will go up to im sure 75 . If i recall right dident XIs cap also start at 50 ? SO again XIV had nothing in it like XIs abyssea a lot of XI vets who feel like i do would say the same
