A lot more interest in 2.0 since Yoshi's appearance at E3.  The forums seem to be busier than usual.  In an effort to help those still not sure what 2.0 is about, or want more information before they commit or think of coming back, the link below is what we collectively know about 2.0.  It's from FFXIV's official forums (the lodestone).  Enjoy.

Read over that post several times over the past few months. Does a good job of getting the facts straight on what's really been said so far.

They havn't said anything about level increase.   I am assuming No.  Too many new people will be joining for them to increase the level cap.

They may, however, add 2-3 new classes.  I'm guessing since the game is going to be "new" they'll just add a lot of end game content for people with max level characters on numerous classes.

This patch is great and all but they still haven't fixed one of the major problems.  Billing and Account managment.  How the hell do you manage a huge company like Square-Enix and still not make it easy for a person to log onto a website, navigate it, and put in their payment details.  It's like a huge labrynth of a site and complicated as hell to work with.

Get your basics done first then release your games!

Yoshi-P during his recent interviews at E3 stated that they can't make the same mistake twice.  He believed the bad UI and lack of content during release were the biggest two reasons for the game's failure.

So is focusing on content and rehauling the UI.  The UI is going to be similar to WoW.  He had his developers play WoW to make sure the new UI had the same functions and was as responsive.  He's also focusing on content.  There will be hundreds of new quests in each zone.  The entire game is being redesigned from scratch.  That includes the engine.  The lighting and shadows will be real time.

One of the content confirmed for 2.0 is 2 pvp battlegrounds and a Crystal Tower dungeon.  There will be chocobo raising and other types of content.

Yoshi-P recently commented that the graphics for 2.0 will be the best in any MMO currently out.

i wanted to renew my sub to try things out since i've heard it's a lot better now.

i really did want to give these folks 12.95 to play their game.

then i got to their website entered my username and password, which i had written down on the game box.... nope

i hit the forgot my password button.......  put in the email where all my gaming correspondence goes.... nope

tried entering the URL inn my online profile that i put in all my online profiles.... nope

checked back to make sure i didnt have caplock on or anything doofy like that..... nope, nope and nope.

i mean i hate to use the W word but if i wanted to renew my wow subscription i could hold my breath at the start of the signup proccess, and be done with it by the time i needed to exhale.  i am actually completely flabbergasted that it would be so difficult to literally sign up to pay a company 12.95.  their loss i guess?  well mine too, because it looks like the new ff14 team has added  a lot of depth to the game.

RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

Currently Playing EVE, POTBS
Liked but retired: EQ1,SWTOR, FFXI, WoW, TERA, Aion, L2, EQ2, LOTRO, atlantica, Rift, Darkfall, though i felt it needed tweaks
Looking forward to: World of Darkness, Archeage, Titan

Recommendation of a game you probably haven't tried: POTBS, Atlantica, L2

If you had forgotten your username and PW, I doubt it.

It's most probably anyone else's fault but yours, though, like you imply.

It's 9.99 by the way

the process could however be made simpler, and I hope they do.

You know i really dont understand the UI issues.

To not know how to make a good mmorpg UI you need to do one thing: have never played a mmorpg before on a PC

That may be the root of all the issues with the team who made the game, not sure how they work on mmorpgs at SE...

The UI needs to be 1: simple 2: be highly customizable 3: easy to navigate and use in combat...designe it to be used in combat and youll have no issues navigating it out of combat.

Its really shocking that the UI was released as it was, it really was as if the people making the game had never played a mmorpg before, at least not on a PC.

As far as the other issues with the game, a lot of the features with class changing, stat distribution ect sound fantastic...yeah the questing doesnt sound right...neither does some convienience issues like no mana regen ect.

This might one day be a solid game, but if im to remember, the whole FF mmorpg appeal was lots of fun dungeon grouping as really the only way to progress at a decent pace...was really a no-lifers dream, and i do love farming dungeons if the mechanics are good and the group is larger than the 4-5 man dungeons.  Did they botch this aspect too?  Or are dungeons solid and fun... also are there lots of interesting things to farm? or is everything crafted and quest reward /dungeon boss drop?

Dungeon drop rates  are horrible.  However, the dungeons designs are fun and they're nothing like dungeons in other MMOS.   How fast you beet the dungeon determines if you get an extra chest in the end.  Aurum Vale has poison throughout and you have to kill certain mobs to be able to spawn other chests in the end.  In Cutter's cry there are various sand traps that either damage you, your mp, or transport you back to the front of the dungeon.   Certain requirements are that you have to kill mobs in separate rooms, at the same time, or else not be able to progress.

Long story short, the dungeons are not necessarily about killing bosses.   There are a lot of puzzle elements and they're a lot of fun (and challanging) early on when they're released.

The problem is, since we know 2.0 is coming out, the devs purposefully had horrible drop rates to keep people grinding the dungeons 100 times.   Then they made th dungeons be part of your Relic Weapons so you have to grind them again 100 times.

But, I feel 2.0 is going to be great from what i've seen of Yoshi's producer skills.  We shall see but i'm really looking forward to it.

Couldn't agree more! This has effectively killed the game (at least until 2.0 hits).  I can deal with horrid drop rates.  Due to my playing schedule, it can make find groups fairly difficult (even with an active LS).  My group rate is almost as bad as these drop rates :)

Considering I don't run into this problem with Rift or TSW or even FFXI - I tend to blame the game's current design.

While their plans do sound like good improvements it may be too late.

As they say, "You only get one chance to make a first impression".  Of all my friends, guildies and clanmates only one has expressed a desire to play FFxiv 2.0, but then he never stopped playing 1.0.

I enjoyed FFxi, many people i know did,  xiv was a cruel joke on those that expected more of the same only better.

So, best of wishes, maybe FFxiv can beat the odds and make a comeback. I can only think of one other game that turned it around and seems to be thriving today, and that is D&D Online.

As to me, 2 years later and it still has left a foul taste in my mouth...

Not many games can have a re-launch on a new platform (ps3) FFXI did the same. Each time it was released on a new console it was like a re-release of the game :P

I am rather excited to see how this all turns out.

If they can pull this off it will be the most impressive turn around ever, that I can think of. There is no shortage of companies that are full of hubris and self hype but a company that admits to screwing it all up, sucking it up and turning it around, that is impressive.

And from the list it seems they are truely concentrating on all the right things. Yoshi-P is a most impressive leader.
