I don't mind missing rumble features and the pad being broken was my first guess. The thing is it works flawless on other games. Only on ff14 it keeps messing up. |

Tried it out during the welcome back campiegn. They fixed soo many bugs, and its very playable now. Dare I say, even enjoyed a little bit of it. That being said, I don't like the layout of the game, and the gameplay itself is the same, albit bug free now. I'm just glad the game will continue on and maybe even get launched on PS3. My hats off to Square for not giving up, and as someone that plumped down the 80 dollars on the CE I am less upset than I was. Anyhow, I'll wait for 2.0 and see what happens, they've done what they said they do, and made it playable. Now, all they need to do is revamp the game into something I want to play. Only time will tell...

Yeah, that sounds frustrating. I can't play these games without a controller. :P Like I said try getting the driver for the controller downloaded. That might help. Also, you can try hitting the rumble button on the controller to turn it off. I had a problem with the rumble disconnecting the controller at one point, so that would keep it from doing that. Hopefully, with 2.0, these things won't be hit or miss. Maybe we'll even be able to *gasp* change settings in game!

I installed the game again for the 10 days free time (still using it atm) and I have to say I like the changes they have made so far, I have my goal in mind (get my Dragoon!!) and am seriously debating swapping my SWTOR sub back to this for at least 90 days just to get the Legacy offer for the game (played the Bate and launch)
Only issue I had then and still have now, is trying to find someone to play with as bashing along as a solo is a bit tiresome http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/ab/Norsefire-logo.png |

I was the opposite... I don't mind controllers, I have a 360, but I plugged it in to this game and couldn't get in to the groove of it at all. Maybe I will try again. |

not to derail too much, but I do agree, which is a shame because I loved the characters and general design a lot. I haven't tried XIII-2 yet... I will one day. |

Originally posted by Satimasu First thing I did when I bought the pad 10 months ago was downloading the driver. Rumble feature is off at 80% of my playing time simply cause I keep forgetting to activate it. It just plain bugs me that FF14 is not even optimized for its very own official joypad.
Leaving my problem with their company politics aside my 4 main criticisms are:
-joypad is bugging out all the time -company leves are solo missions and extremely boring because you have to stand around waiting for the 15 mins to run out -melee classes seem more powerful than mages* -chocobo caravan missions will not scale down when only 1 player joins **
*while doing the third quest of "infiltrate the enemy base; click 3 points; earn 700 seals" I noticed a lancer who could kill any mob around without breaks in between - I had to rest for mp after every kill or 2 depending on how well the mobs resisted (and yes i used the new mp restoration skills and ethers)
**I tried the one for level 25 on my 49 thauma and thought it would be no problem with my aoe spells. I barely only finished the mission with about 10 seconds left and received a reward of 27 seals. Now I know why no one joins those missions.
PS: While I said that about the 3 similar quests with some sarcasm I had fun doing them. It took some skill to to mob control with sleep and lure enemies one by one. It just sucks when you see a lancer storming into the room and fighting several mobs at the same time without any risk for her. |

Originally posted by Dakeru I would not say that melee classes are more powerful than mages at all.
When I solo or farm I prefer to play BLM as it is the fastest.
If you are getting resists perhaps you need more magic accuracy, the cheapest and easiest way is to just get a coral ring or two (but this will bring down your INT, the main stat determining overall spell damage, which is why a mage's choker paired with an electrum scepter is the choice for most).
For MP yes mages do struggle more solo as you are not regaining MP as fast while being hit, so you want to conserve your casts and limit your time in combat/moving. Place yourself where you can target multiple enemies (or groups) then if need be use resonance to pull them towards you. Use Sanguine Rite once they reach you (don't use it right after dark seal or you will waste dark seal on it).
As for the company guildleves the 15 minutes ones are pretty much a waste of time, there are others which require you to hunt specific mobs which are much faster. The fastest way to get GC seals is to farm totorak/darkhold/NM's and then turn the drops into the GC. DoL/DoH can also do supply missions. Solo DoW/DoM players are at a disadvantage, and I'd recommend farming NM's if you don't have a friend to do totorak with.

My wife and I want to sub to get the deal, when 2.0 comes out. We actually enjoy it, but she keeps crashing with a directx error. We ve done everything that we ve found online to fix it, but she keeps crashing. Can t really justify paying a sub, if she can play 10-20 mins at a time. |

Originally posted by Leucent Alt-tabbing out seems to do that for me with 100% certainty, no checking skype or programs in the background while in fullscreen. Otherwise, I tend to get kicked in the middle of a leve with some kind of "server busy error 00xxxx07" type thing, but it just means i have to stare at the character screen for 20-30 seconds and log back in (and retry the leve...). Holy crap I just grabbed the game off Amazon for $8 and cause I was bored....
(Still downloading the client right now)
But went to the SquareEnix site to register my code. WTF this is a PITA... So I'm pretty sure I tied the code to my account and even brought in my beta stuff. But I have no clue if my account is active or what. They really need to get this site straightened out and make it more user friendly.. |

I read a thread on this site talking about the welcome back campaign so I decided to giving it a try. (even though I practically swore a blood oath I wouldn't try FFXIV until 2.0, lol) I have to say I was surprised at how far it's come. I'd say it's almost where it should have been at release. I'm still pissed that there's no mailbox or auction house. Yes, they're still trying to push the market wards but it's stupid imo. As immersive as the game setting is it doesn't seem likely that 100's of people would stand in a basement 24/7 waiting to sell me things. I wish they'd just implement a damned AH. key word: optimize Aside from that, a lot of my gripes have been addressed. They smoothed out leves, added a lot more quests, balanced xp gain and added chains ala FFXI. I like the repair guys/venders at many camps. The new armors look friggen amazing (I saw a lalafel chick in full monk armor and sat and stared at her on my screen for like 5 mins) Now the avatars are being implemented one at a time, coughSMNcoughs. I dunno, for the first time in FFXIV I have that feeling I had waayyyyy back when I first started playing FFXI. I spend my time keeping to myself and running around to take it all in. I group here and there and the community has been pretty cool thus far. I hope I get my character set up in a good way for the rerelease with 2.0. I agree this game isn't for everyone but if you liked FFXI I'd sub for a month and check it out. |

Originally posted by ghostinfinit *SNIP* I agree this game isn't for everyone but if you liked FFXI I'd sub for a month and check it out. Aye, a month is about all I can handle at a time. My biggest gripe with the game is that it feels like FFXI's predecessor and not its successor. The armoury and combat systems leave a lot to be desired. FFXI's job and combat system is(was) so much more interesting and diverse, that I find it hard to play this game for any significant length of time. Something else that kills its appeal is the world design. I know that SE recognizes the world design issues and is completely redesigning the world, but I'm afraid that the vanilla job/combat system that's currently in place will hinder 2.0's success. Maybe SE is considering revamping those systems, I don't know. In any case, I'm curious to see what 2.0 will bring. Don't let my seemingly negative comments dissuade you from trying/retrying the game. It has come quite a ways from its launch; I just happen to be at the end of one of my one month return stints and am a bit jaded. |
