League of Legends Pre-Season to Kick-Off October 27th

LOS ANGELES — Oct. 22, 2009 — Riot Games, an independent developer and publisher of premium online video games, has invited all gamers to get a jump start in League of Legends before the game launches in “Pre-Season” on Oct. 27, 2009. New players can join the beta for free at http://signup.leagueoflegends.com and will be able to keep their accounts permanently.

League of Legends will operate in seasons to provide the best experience in competitive gaming. Operating in seasons provides an established set of champions and maps with a definite endpoint to competition, while also enabling new content rollouts outside of season play. The League of Legends “Pre-Season” will allow time for players to learn the game, build teams and develop advanced strategies and tactics, before the opening of Season One in the first half of 2010. Between now and the start of Season One, players can also look forward to the addition of clans, teams, tournaments, ladders, draft mode, as well as additional content such as new champions and maps.
 

all i ever get is, "there was an error creating account" when ever i try to create one.

Great game. Got it yesterday, and been having a blast. I understand when beta is over we still get to keep our accounts, but what else do we get to keep? Do we lose our mastery points (by this, I mean the level of our champion, not necessarily the points)? Runes? Is the account set back to zero at end of beta?

The game is in pre-release not beta, which is just a nice way of Riot saying "we don't have the store ready yet, so just play with all the heroes" :) I'm pretty sure you keep all levels and IP you earn during this period.

We can't earn Runes yet, because as mentioned, the store hasn't been implemented.
