EQ dev's have always been men who enjoy skin. I've always found it a bit of a turn off. In allot of ways it's pretty silly. Men get suits of armor covered head to toe. Women get a steal thong, and some torn leather. (seems a bit sexist to me) I prefer games where woman get adequate protection. (and coverage) Here's a good example of what I mean http://everquest2.station.sony.com/screenshots/thumbs/999_eq2_Screen_127.jpg But what says you? I'd be more interesting in hearing from women, since most devs are men, and more players are men (ages 18-25) so I understand why so many games take the skin approach. But I would think it would be a turn off to female players?

yes, it may be that the female characters dont acutally get "coverage"....but, thast just the way it is... i mean...i wouldnt mind if a game had women in full suits of armur...but then again i dont mind if they are naked in the game! it all really matters, i dont get "excited" when i see a half naked EQ women.... who does? i dont know, but i just think that its fine the wya it is...

Ok, so the men may be dressed, but let's face it - they have bulges in all the right places for the most part. It is a fantasy world, and although I do think they could put more clothes on the women, most of the avatars don't insult me (I'm a woman, so I'd be insulted, not aroused). However, I did try out a game a while back (redmoon something??) where the women looked so whorish and trashy that I just couldn't convince myself to keep playing. And they had clothes on! Give me a sexy wood elf any day!

You see worse things going to a movie, or just turning on your T.V. It doesn't bother me either way, if someone wanted to see real porn they could go up to someone and ask them to buy it for them. It's pretty crazy now-a-days --------------------------------------- |

I am just guessing here. But I would imagine that games are catering to the typical desire of each of the genders. - Men like to feel tough...big bulky and tough. Giving them armor does this. - Women like to look and feel feminine...if a game can make them feel "sexy" they are happy. Isn't this why women spend so much time getting ready every day?? I think the skin is there for women as much or more than it is for men. I think they try to mimic the way men and women dress in our world... - MMORPG.COM Staff - - MMORPG.COM Staff - |

Well, i can let you know from experaince......Im the art director for Freeworld online....and for the first 5 phases of alpha we made cross gender Armour (could be worn by both male and female) this Armour covered the player from head to toe.....BUT GUESS WHAT? the female players started to complain that they could not make there chars look sexy...(what the hell...lol) well, because of this i talked with may of are female players and they said they want female only Armour types so they can show off some flesh...but they also want to be able to wear the same sets of Armour as the men do :)......So we got are artists together and we will be producing tons of new sets of Armour in the start of phase 6 and making sure too add some sexier Armour types..... I really do not think it is a sexist thing......i think alot (not all) of woman want it be that way in game, maybe because that is something they do not do in real life and it is fun for them.

I think the clothing styles are ok for the most part on the mmorpgs currently out. I agree with the above post that some females who play these guys like to be able to make their avatar "stand out" with different more appealing clothing/armor. Some females that I've known that may not want to go that route simply create a male 'toon.... As a matter of fact, some GUYS that I know who had trade mules and wanted lotts of exposure to customers would have female chars dressed approprately to catch some customers eye.... After all, it is your choice wether to continue playing said game or not. *sighs* sure, it may be nice to have more skin but what realm viking woman or warrior would allow kinks or even spots of lack of armor, just to look sexy in battle? I think not. That's the last thing you'd care for, thank you very much. And if they wanted to look sexy, they'd take off their body plates and wear normal clothes because that'd like carrying around 4 babies with ya. :p

Ok heres my point of view but I can by no means speak for women in general. Every woman is unique in her beliefs about modesty, sexuality, and how we present ourselves. I like to look sexy in real life. I like it a lot. When I play a mmorpg I am not there to pick up guys but I still enjoy my character being a sexy independent character and want to be able to express my choice of style. I didnt find any of the character armor models from EQ to be revealing at all really. Some of the naked (no armor or equipment but still clothed) models were a bit revealing but nothing that made me repulsed or anything. The picture from the link above is of a wood elf from EQ2 who isnt wearing any armor because in most of their originaly released screenshots no armor models were shown on male or female charcters. That is her clothing, not her armor. On another note I think people wearing full body covering plate armor in most mmorpgs is far more silly and outrageous. Nobody would go adventuring wearing plate armor like that. It was heavy and uncomfortable, and limited mobility. Full plate was made mostly for one major thing, pitched battle and mostly just for heavy cavalry that let the horses do most of the work of hauling their heavy butts around. In an adventure environment with climbing, dungeon crawling, overland travel, or stealthy sneaking into a monsters lair all that armor would mostly just get in your way and wear you out fast as well as making you noisy and slow. We are also generally of smaller frame and in combat wouldnt be hoping to win with our strenght but rather our agility, mobility, and our brains. Less armor would be an advantage to us in most ways imo. |
