Any word on this?

Hoping for at least the standard Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, Humans, etc...  (Please, no Anime "rent boys" with wings, like some games that are out.)

The race choices sound cool.  The "heroic quests/tasks" and hero status sound contrived.

Why can't they just make a world, throw players in it, and let them find (and earn) their own destinies?  How many MMO's are going to impale themselves upon the Spear of Failure by force-feeding players linear or contrived storyline gameplay?   This is working towards defeat; adding elements to drive away players.

Ex. the video mentioned a "rescue person from burning building" quest.  How lame.  Now if the building was burning by itself and not set up on cue for the character, then it might be spontaneous and more meaningful.  But feeding the gameplayers a stream of contrived storyline scenes to act out is just lame and says "STORYLINE" instead of "WORLD."

Three things cannot be long hidden, the sun, the moon, and the truth.

Honestly they've not really said much of substance yet, so you'll have to wait and see. It's true that they've 'formally' said that humans, elves, and dwarves are in the game, but at least they are supposedly making them different than standard ones, whatever that means. Also, supposedly they are going to add more race(s)... Goblins sound like they might be neat, and we've seen them in the video and some screenshots at least, plus there were tweets a while ago where someone mentioned goblin females.

I'm sure there will be more than 3 races, they will probably wait until the game is closer to testing to release more information.

Playing: Star Wars: The Old Republic, occasionally TERA.

Waiting For: Guild Wars 2, and Elder Scrolls Online.

even if it is only 3 races the gameplay could be dynamic enough to make every class feel really fresh and new.

I actually like the epic storylines in MMOs and it is one of the features I look for in a game.  Don't assume everyone is looking for the same thing as you.  If you don't like it, move on.  With that said, just because the story line is available in-game doesn't mean that the game will require you to take part in it.

I was just browsing the games in development list where I came across HoT.. After reading the overview I was intrigued to check out the screenshots. After browsing through the screenies, I can honestly say right now this game sounds and looks like it has potential.. I'll be keeping an eye on HoT over the next few months to get an update on when beta will start..

I hope there will be more than just 3 playable races. I'd like to see at least 8, perhaps add orcs, goblins, gnomes, Gnolls, Half Breeds like Half Elf, Half Orc, Half Ogre, Half Giant, Trolls, etc..  More races equals more diversity..

Anyway, this is one title I'll be keeping an eye on the months ahead..

I hope they don't do like Warhammer and only put white race heroes as playable, kinda tired of that shit to be frank.

Even Vanguard had different colors, and creeds in their game, and these guys hopefully will to.

Playeable DE, Orcs, Gobbos would't hurt either.

I totally agree! A fantasy game should include all elements of fantasy and not restrict the player to a very specific type of role. But we'll see what they have in store, as time progresses.

Playing: Star Wars: The Old Republic, occasionally TERA.

Waiting For: Guild Wars 2, and Elder Scrolls Online.

It's still going very strong : ) It takes time and personally I'd rather they  spend as long on it as they want & need, too many games launch too quickly...Worst thing ever...

Seems like this game is a lot like LoTRO..

I didnt like the book quests in LoTRO so I hope these guys do something diffferent. its a cool idea but it really doesnt work when you want a living breathing world.

Eq2 also did a good job with skin color. Half elves, halflings and a few others could be black too.

I completely disagree. 2 games have epic storylines in them, and both of them have a VERY "WORLD" feel to them. LOTRO and FFXI. You can have a world and storyline, it is possible. Games that don't, like Warhammer, EQ2, STO just plain get boring. I love playing LOTRO and FFXI for the story as well as the unique feel of each class in those games.

Hoping HoT does the same but with their innovative approach to it.

I dont feel the same.

1. It always forces players to stop what they are doing and traveling back and forth 100 times for little to no story at all other than " go talk to this guy for pointless rambling " and then off to do a group quest that gives you crappy rewards.

2. The entire story is an instance and has no impact on the game world outside of a small change in a small area if that. Not epic in the least.

Just a glorified fetch this , go here and kill that quest.

Either have it on the world scale or not at all.

That's what YOU get from it. I get a sense of immersion and a sense of being part of the story, and personally I love traveling around and exploring more than any other part of a game, so for me, this is where its at.

By the way, you aren't forced to do them, you can choose to not do the book quests or story quests at all. Why you are playing an RPG though, baffles me. Since they are at heart, an interactive story first and formost and always have been.

Players come for the game, but they stay for the people- Most Devs have forgotten this.

lol @ 'even Vanguard'... :P

VG destroys pretty much all fantasy mmorpgs in terms of character creation option variety.

It was technical/ management issues that destroyed that games hopes, nothing else, lets not make out it's the least of anything.

Anyhoo.. back on topic... 3 races seems stingy, and 3 such boring cliche races seems worrying. How much of a leap of imagination would have it been for them to offer us something new, with a new racial perspective and worldview for them? Lets hope they at least throw some originality into the mix... maybe at least make the elves sidhe like and the dwarves morlock like, hating in their darkness.

Please though.. no more lotr racial cloning in a game like this.

Well here's the funny about this. I truly believe they are changing the whole "3 race" thing. Notice how not a single word has been mentioned on any of their mechanics, class system, races, etc since they picked up a new CEO Scott Hartsman? Things are drastically changing and I'm quite sure its no secret.

Releasing any mmo today with only 3 races in the fantasy genre simply won't make the cut for just that reason alone.
