so it's 10$ for a mount that's better then the 36 month vet mount. it's a mount for money like blizz has been doing. to me this feels like flat out greed.

At least its not 25$ like a WoW mount?  Don't really know what else to say, though I wonder if the bashing/defending of this will be as bad as it was when WoW introduced the sparkle pony.

Nothing wrong with it, you are not forced to buy it nor does it give ingame advantages.

that mount is not required to play the game,  and doesnt affect your game in any way.  if they're greedy,  you're selfish.

It's just a mount, it's not like it gives anyone an advantage and besides it helps bring in more money for your game for content. If you don't want one, don't get it. I don't play Rift, but like someone said above, at least it's not $25. Now if the mount is $10-$25 and doesn't give one to each of your characters, then I'd $#@%!

BTW how is it better than the vet mount? I don't know what either look like or do.

I also wonder if it will be more lopsided than the WoW discussion because at the time (on these boards) people were really trashing WoW, and you had the usual white knights, but the trashing was more prevelant than the defense.  Will Rift get bashed less for this because it is more acceptable than it was back then, or maybe because Trion is seen as less greedy than Bliz?  

Greedy? NOt really, not anymore. At this point in the genre it's norm. Time for complaining was back when other companies did that, nowadays it's accepted, even expected for MMO to have additional vanity stuff for sale. 

See, when a game, any game, releases these days they tend to have some special, exclusive pre-order deals. People want such stuff for various reasons, but it's often impossible to get them all unless you order the game at every major retailer across the globe. One of first things that is asked when such deal get's advertsied is "Will there be option to buy that stuff separately?" and here is the answer. This was exclusive mount for Korean market, just like EU/NA got the turtle and other bonuses. Now they let other's get it to, for a price, sure, but how doffierent it is from allt he other deals that are out these days? 

It's customers themselves that specifically ask for such things. People want to upgrade their normal edition to deluxe post-launch if they feel like further supporting the game/company. It's not greed, it's good answer to all the pleas.

These sorts of things don't happen in P2P games.  DON'T HAPPEN.  If they did happen, then games like GW2 being B2P with a cash shop would almost seem OK, but no. P2P will not go down this road! It's very honest, and a good fair service which is definately not greedy!  I won't believe you!

I have to say this bugs me too.  I'm paying a subscription for the full meal deal.  If I want to buy extra digitial content I should just stick with F2P.  I've gone with the payment as a service model with them because I missed it so much from Lineage.

I wonder if they're testing the cash shop waters.  They have skirted microtransactions by selling Collector's Edition upgrades, but flat out selling a mount is a microtransaction in my world.

If they're going to start charging for additional digital content or their expansion then the P2P model is really and truly dead.  They will all be P2P + microtransactions.

The funny thing is I never ever planned to play F2P, but publishers are driving me from P2P games with their double and triple dipping.

If I may quote you, sir - and even respond to your post..

The mount can indeed bring an advantage in PvP, no matter how small.. If the enemy can get to the objective faster, or reinforce their team faster after dying, that's called an advantage. If this mount is indeed faster than what can be acquired through game, then it is an advantage gained through real money, no matter how Small.

Of course this dosn't matter to us "normal" folks, but wait until someone loses in "hardcore-lollipop-pvp" against one because the enemy could magically ride faster and catch him up or so on.

Example: In the PvP what I remember doing most in rift, you had three capture point zones between the bases of opposing factions. If you can ride there faster than your enemy, that surely is an advantage. And as I said, reinforcing your team faster than the enemy can... yup, you guessed it! Advantage?

EDIT: After researching this topic briefly, I found a post like this on Rift Forums, so it's just cosmetic fluff, no advantage what-so-ever offered (Except for saving in-game gold, but that's not really an advantage which affects rest of the players - unless we look into Auction House business?):

ah but it does effect my game. i dig the mounts and pets in game and work to get em all. studios know people are into these and figure it's an easy way to get some extra income. if no one cared, then they wouldn't be sellin them. this mount costs more then my monthly sub at 15$, when i pay 12 for founders pricing.

"at least it isn't 25$". so people are talkin on the forums and saw something i didn't. it says available for a limited time. they're just guessing, but they're thinking it will go up to around 25$ after a month or two. like right now would just be the introductory sale. (edit: i put the post from trion about this in the OP. looks like it will cost more soon)

and the difference between this mount and the 36 month vet mount is this one is all armored up. looks a hell of a lot better imo.

i pay a sub for all content in game, not for most of it. this is just how i feel.

Well it had to happen sometime!

Secret World launched with an item shop.  All mmo's have them or will soon enough.  It's a shame.

I remember back in the old times mmo's put all new content into the game for free, all you had to do was subscribe to their game!  Everquest would make new exciting thingies and you had to play to get it.  Like actually do things IN THE GAME to get it.  $15 a month got you an entire world to explore and achieve things in.

Now a days $15 is just to get you in the door with the basic ammenities, if you want to have cool new thingies you better get your credit card out.

I just ignore all that crap but it seems to be getting worse and worse.  The cooler items are being sold in item stores and the plain boring crap is left for the subscribers.  Greed is a cancer.

This mount was in the Korean CE so they're offering it to us for $15.They did the same with the spider as it was in a pack for $10.Supposedly that spider was in the Canadian CE.It's just fluff and they rarely do this so I don't have a problem with it.

I have no problem adding the option but.. no matter how you swing it.. it IS a cash shop, even though they assortment is very limited. Ofcourse its just a matter of time till they expand the options, the framework to extent it is already in place... for give or take a year now.

I bought the collectors edition upgrade for 10 extra dollars when it launched just for the mount that you got. How is adding another one years later for money anything different? Nobody was bitching about the first 10 dollar mount you could of bought, but now its a crime?

Mounts in Rift can all be used at any level and adjust to your in game purchased skill riding level, so its not an advantage in anyway.

To that dude that says it is affecting his game because he collects stuff, don't buy it then. Or buy it so you can say "YaY! I have all the mounts and mini pets YaY! Even the purchased ones YaY!. I win YaY!"

A cash shop is necessary at some point for Rift to be able to afford the dev team putting out as much content as they are.  Its not like Rift has 300k subscribers anymore.  So its either fluff mounts (this is the third such available mount...collectors editions arent typically digital upgrades) or less development.  Id take fluff mount every time.

I actually think its worse having a 36 month veteran reward in a game not even 18 months old.  Getting people to by that much ahead of time, without a lifetime subscription, by tossing in a fluffy reward is just preying on impulse buyers, as no matter how much you love Rift its foolish to pay for 18 months in advance because chances are you wont still be playing it.

I am truly sorry but i fail to understand where is the "greedy" part.

It is a mount that has zero influence in individual play and of no consequence to multi-play. If the mount had a rocket launcher equipped and you could go to warfronts blast people to oblivion, i would agree with you.

You want it you buy it, if not dont buy it :)

There is absolutly something wrong with it. Its an ingame item that you already pay a MONTHLY FEE for thats not apart of a full expansion.

WTF are people paying monthly fees for if they are not getting content for it? I just dont get it. Oh the ONE update that adds content every 4-6 months? So you are fine with paying the price of a full fledged AAA title for 2 hours worth of content and then being asked to pay even more ontop of that for cosmetic items?

I really do not understand gamers these days. So many of them are willing to take it right up the ass, and dry at that. Oh well, Companies will keep doing this and people like me, who expect value for our money, will continue to move on untill we have to find a new hobby. Hell even DLC is getting out of hand but at least thats not priced so F'in rediculous as MMO's are.
