  • ARGs Are Back

    For many the first time they ever heard about The Secret World it was thanks to an ARG. Funcom spent years leading up to TSW with a series of ARGs meant to engage, entertain, and sometimes terrify. After the launch sadly ARGs were all but abandoned, with only two since July of 2012. Now the alternate reality games are getting a bit of a boost. Last week, on the 14th a new ARG started, dealing with Division 66.

  • Why Don't More People Play TSW?

    Go to any forums for MMOs and you will eventually find people bemoaning the fact that every MMO out there is the same. Maybe they use words like "WoW clone" or "copycat" but the idea is always the same, there just isn't enough variety in MMOs. And yes, the industry is filled with one fantasy game after another. But there are other games that get over looked. Whenever I see someone complaining all MMOs are the same I ask them, "What about The Secret World?"

  • Funcom Profits Down Due to Crowded F2P MMO Space

    Funcom has released its Q4 2013 financial statements. The numbers are down sharply from a year ago. According to the report, Age of Conan and The Secret World are still viable properties that make money but the revenue gain is leaner due to an increasingly crowded free to play MMO market.

  • An End to the Mystery Box Flap & Tokyo Delayed

    Joel Bylos has penned this month's Producer's Letter. In it, he discusses the addition of Mystery Boxes to the game's item shop. Bylos spends time discussing what these boxes are and are not, in essence assuring players they are not "lockboxes" and contain nothing that can't be earned or found in the game world. In addition, Bylos informs players that Tokyo will be divided into two sections and will be delayed by a few weeks from its original projected release date.

  • Tokyo & The Whispering Tide Final Chapter Detailed

    The Secret World site has been updated with this month's update. Penned by Romain Amiel, the letter goes in to some detail about the forthcoming final chapter in the Whispering Tide open raid and then, most excitingly, Amiel discusses the upcoming Tokyo update. Additionally, screens are posted to show off the winner of the "get your art in the game" and how it will look in game.

  • Funcom Response to Police Raid in Oslo Offices

    On Wednesday, it was reported here that Funcom's Oslo, Norway offices were raided by the local authorities in connection to the ongoing investigation of stock practices surrounding The Secret World's launch some 18 months or so ago. Today, Erling Ellingsen, Director of Communications for Funcom reached out to MMORPG.com to offer these words.

  • Funcom Under Investigation for Stock Irregularities

    According to multiple sources, including Norwegian government sources, the Oslo offices of Funcom, developers of Age of Conan and the Secret World, are currently being raided by local police as part of an investigation into possible stock market irregularities during, or slightly before, the launch of The Secret World in the summer of 2012.

  • 2014 Means Tokyo According to Latest Director's Letter

    The Secret World's site has been updated with the latest Game Director's Letter. This time, however, the letter wasn't actually penned by Joel Bylos but by Lead Designer Romain Amiel. In it, Romain talks about what the team has most recently accomplished and goes on to the exciting news that this year will mark the arrival of Tokyo!

  • Latest Patch Goes Live

    Funcom has announced the deployment of the latest update to The Secret World, Issue 8: The Venetian Agenda. This brings the game version up to 1.8.2. The patch contains several key fixes including bug squashing in the GUI and in the scenario system.

    Joel Bylos hosts the latest Secret World video that heralds the arrival of Issue 8: The Venetian Agenda. The update brings special training "scenarios" to the game where players earn certification to enter Tokyo when it arrives in TSW at a later point in time.   • EXCLUSIVE NEWS: Issue 8 Releasing Next Week & Tokyo Details

    During a developer demo of the Issue 8 augments and scenario system (full article coming later today or early tomorrow from Bill Murphy), Joel Bylos let slip that Issue 8 will be releasing next week giving players full access to the brand new Augments System, Scenarios, and the Council of Venice Story setting up the Issue 9 tale that will take players into Tokyo.
