I sense a great disturbance in the force, as if thousands of lifetime subscribers cried out in rage.

I am lifer & suporting game monthly with 10$ via FC points,i ll continue with suport TSW , one of best mmorpg's when come F2P. Nothing wrong with F2P for me,i ll get full acces in game, and not yet spend any FC point,F2P is illusion it ll be P2W ,as usual happen only EVE is real MMO...but I am impressive with TSW |

As a lifesubscriber myself, I see no reason at all to be angry about it. Funcom will most likely do exactly the same as AoC and AO. Give some content for free, but keep the endgame for subscribers. So I will probably always get my moneys worth. And since I really love this game, my most important focus is to be able to actually keep playing the game and having a healthy community here. If Funcom finds that goind into some kind of F2P model is best for the game, then I still get to play my game and thats whats most important. For me anything that doesnt end with the game shutting down is good.

i,m a lifer and i dont mind at all if it goes f2p..i have nothing against a f2p community at all..it worked out quite well for lotro ..only thing i would say is make it a lot more f2p friendly .what i mean is look at lotro's has way to do it. what i do like is the comment where he says it is now profitable because of restructuring(job losses).sad to see anyone lose a job.but in things like this its inevetable. |

Shame on you OP for a misleading title. Any game has the potential to go F2P these days If you actually read the article they said that for now thy are a sub game, "Ole Schreiner: After the recent re-structuring of our internal teams, The Secret World is now a profitable operation and we expect it to be so for the foreseeable future. That's also why we are committing to the ambitious post-launch update plan. Of course, operating in the MMO business means you have to stay adaptive and evaluate yourself, your community and your competition, so we can't rule out a change in direction somewhere down the line. But we're quite comfortable with where we are now and what we're providing our players."

As a lifer I'll still get anything for free basically once they move to the F2P-model. TSW is really good when talking about dungeons and questing. The only problem as allways is the bugs Funcom doesn't fix fast enough. |

I think with hindsight, they would have been better making it a coorpg instead of a mmo.
E.g. you pick a campaign - new englabd, Egypt or transylvania. You can invite upto 3 players into your campaign with you. They could have then pushed the horror atmosphere and tension more and had a cheaper to run game. You could have gone the dungeons from a lobby. They could also have done 2nd runs of the campaigns depending on users society, e.g. templars nuke kingsmouth, if you go join templar players 2nd run its a waste land. Lumies start weaponising the zombies but it goes wrong etc.. |

Would have also saved tsw inherited flak from swtor about story square peg in mmo round hole, although I think tsw mostly pulls it off, potential buyers preconceptions won't have thought that.

Well when it goes F2P I guess I could go back and tackle the PVE story aspect of the game. I might even do that for SWTOR as well. I want to finish my Bounty Hunter and Agent storylines.

The guy in charge must be an idiot to even mention F2P at this point in time. He has now fundamentally said to people don't buy TSW. If he had to mention F2P at all, he should have at least hinted in the same breath at some sort of mega deal for subscribers and lifetime subs.
It's not a question of facing up to the realities of the situation, it's about shooting yourself in the foot. He has now said this game is made to go F2P. So now everybody will wait for it to go F2P. Which begs the question why on earth Funcom didn't you just launch it F2P? Oh yeah ... greed. |
