Its you, I do agree there is room for improvement but other then them looking human Im not sure what you consider looking odd.

8 different heads per sex.

5 different types of noses.

5 different types of lips.

5 different types of jaws.

5 different types of eyes.

13 different skin collors

12 different eye collors

11 hairstyles

13 hair collors

13 facial hair collors(for males)

5 different types of eye brows

12 different beard/mustache (male)

3 types of make up (female)

--
The female basic head shapes
And the male basic head shapes :

honestly you look at those and don't see how most  look odd?

Other then looking like "normal"humans instead of holywood/model ideal looks? They look prtty generic. Just not supermodel or cartoony pretty.

I'm sitting in the character creator right now for the last hour actually cannot make a single female decent looking at all. There are PLENTY of good looking girls in the world that are not supermodels

Underlined the most important part of it.

I agree there are plenty of pretty humans who are not supermodels, then again I wouldnt call the majority of the models ugly, I dont find them all attractive but then again its more in the art style. They seemed to have gone more the next-door girl approach other then basing the character faces on holywood/model ideal features which are commonly used in cartoony art styles.

Most people don't consider themselves ugly in real life, who would we want to be ugly in a video game? And yes, most models in TSW are ugly. Strange body proportions, wierd looking faces, unnatural animations... In my opinion, if you want a good example of uncanny valley, TSW character models are it.

personally I would call the overwhelming majority of the female faces in the creation screen in this game "ugly". Since it's based off real life it's less about artistic style and more on what people would see as decent looking or attractive or just plain out odd looking and ugly.. to me most faces I can create in this game are straight out ugly as hell which is very dissapointing to me... luckily I can make some decent looking male toons i suppose so it's not a total loss but really hope we get a lot more head options come launch

The irony in your statement is this, you really can get darn close to celeb's that ARE considered to be very attractive. We took this to the test with faceface recognition   software and picture overlay's. Then again (this may be subjected to region differences of opinions) in general realistic based (art) styles are considered less attractive then more cartoonish styles, for some reason anime styles seem to be considered the most attrative (and ussually the least realistic).

still here trying to find some combo that looks even remotely decent for female have yet to find one and you really don't have a whole lot of options to play with.. not to mention when If I hit the cycle button I get some of the ugliest most deformed looking faces I have ever seen in a video game.

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

I have yet to see a single person on these forums or on the official forums aside from super fanboys who actually "love" the character models in this game.. aside from combat it's pretty much the biggest complaint I see

GW2 isn't that great either in the creation department but I'am able to put together some very "pretty" looking toons in that game at least

They all look like Gw1 for the most part, oops hit post before I was done. That said Gw2 CC is meh but the game is beyond overhype atm, TSW meh but attacked non stop, and WoW which are pretty bad but is top dog. If the gameis good and I mean good, I don't care all that much about a decent CC. Aion has a sweet once but we see where that game is, same with TERA again not the top selling game atm.

somewhat although GW1 had very long necks which always bothered me heh... but still overall I agree GW2 doesn't have the best creations either but also GW2 isn't trying to mimic real life either.. i was able to make much better looking faces in AoC

GW2 has more stylized art style so the models don't look that bad, although I'm not a huge fan of human characters in that game either, but your brain can tell that it's not realistic so it doesn't look wierd. TSW tries to go for the more realistic look and crosses that barrier that makes the models and the faces look odd.

Just my opinion.

I ran into plenty of both, the hate ussually is easier to find..

Funny enough most of the gripes about the faces is fairly easy to resolve with just a few shades and skin tone shifts, not entirely sure how to discribe that in proper english (not my 1st language) , but it wasnt  even hard to adjust (some) of the faces to be significant more attractive. Skin complexions are needed too, the skin appears a bit deadish. Heck trow in some blush effects.

Dont get me wrong I understand the issues, we just tried to figure out what is causing it.

The character creator is definitely sparse on physical feature variety, but a lot of this will be moot once people discover that they can wear headgear (i.e., people won't notice your hair and/or facial features).

to bad headgear isn't part of the clothing options during the character creator

Yeah, see I never got why people go so crazy over CC, after spending hours making your face, you enter the game and at some point this really cool looking helm drops and BAM there goes your face under it.

most MMOs have a hide helmet option so many still play without seeing their headgear

The pen is mightier than the sword if the sword is very short, and the pen is very sharp.

A lot of folks will buy from the store since headgear isn't in CC. I know that will (likely) be my first purchase.
