If you've played Funcom games for an extended period of time, you'll know a few things:

1.  Yes there will be bugs....any game has them

2.  Every Funcom MMO put out to this day has added their own "wrinkle" to the genre, whether it be combat with AoC or instanced dungeons and an instant quest hub with AO.

3.  Don't ever play a Funcom game with the idea that it will be mainstream and should be like other games you've played....never happens and never will happen.  They will have similarities but will always stick out from the crowd.

4.  I don't PVP, but I've never really seen Funcom as the leader in PVP...they focus most of their attention on PVE.  So all you PVP nuts better not rage quit a month after TSW comes out saying that there isn't enough love for PVP....that's commonplace in Funcom games.

5.  AO and AoC (this is my opinion only) were not only ground-breaking, but are still my 2 favorite MMO's out there.

6.  What Funcom does the best is create atmosphere in a game.  I think there are two ways to tell a story, with text or with atmosphere and I tend to like atmosphere better because than I get to use my imagination a bit more.

7.  This game WILL be awesome for many but will also suck for many too....it won't flop though....Ragnar knows how to make a game.

Atmosphere is not worth full retail + sub + cash shop. Once it goes freemuium, then we can talk.

Well done.

Agree with all your points.

Still can't wait to play this one.

It's not about fighting, it's about balance. It's not about enlightenment, it's about balance. It's not about balance.

haha....thanks for paying attention to my one sentence in the thread.  Atmosphere is what I said they do best....the game will not be advertised for it's atmosphere...just watch some videos with the quests and the different locales....add to that 3 different starting factions and areas, countless dungeons (im sure, funcom is the dungeon king imo) and pretty detailed story with alot of real life myths, legends and lore popped into it....should be alot of fun.  oh, and each faction has it's own very unique way of thinking which will no doubt mix up the questing for each different faction.

I Deeply agree with most of your points other than that AO was actually a very Original game and did bring a lot to offer to the genre, sadly it never got the popularity it deserved. Otherwise, well done.

I agree...AO will always be my favorite video game of any genre that I've ever played.  I tend to believe that it STILL is the most original MMORPG ever released.  No other game will ever offer a yalm or a froob shirt for that matter!

This is a sad state of affairs. When you have to actively promote the game on the forums, then you know something is up.

You're wasting your own time though, because no manner of hype on this web site will save whatever it is you're trying to sell.

You can keep reminding the AO and AoC fans, such as myself, how good the games were, but from both the beta and leaked footage (not from me, but it was posted on this site before it got deleted) this game simply looks bad.

The funny thing is that the people that actually can comment on how  the game plays are all under NDA, so the biggest fans are keeping their mouths shut. ;)

I think you completely missed his point.

Ragnar Tørnquist is the guy behind The Longest Journey and Dreamfall.

"The Longest Journey was well received by the gaming press. GameSpot called it "one of the best adventure games in years" and applauded the "complex and interesting story""

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreamfall

"Dreamfall was generally well received by both critics and players. The media praised the story and the characterisation in the game, but criticized its fighting and stealth elements, as well as the abrupt cliffhanger ending."

The Secret World is a bit of an Adventure/MMORPG with it's puzzle quests and very open character development system. It's a hybrid which takes away some of the repetitiveness of an mmorpg by using interesting quests where you have to think when you play, instead of just collecting 10 quests, looking at the minimap and try to connect the dots in the most efficient manner.

So you are going to dismiss the bad games just because he had good games as well?

Bioware has made good singleplayer games and yet look at SWTOR it's subpar for a Bioware game.

I am saying that when you have the same senior producer on two successful games and he is working on a third, there is a good chance it will be a good game.

Regarding bad games, I played AoC for from 2008-2010 and I didn't think it was a bad game. I have a friend who played AO from 2001-2004 and he didn't think it was a bad game. That you think the games are bad after trying them is a matter of taste, so I won't argue with you there. I am not playing AoC now, but I actually found aspects of the game that was quite compelling, even if I got bored by the game in the end.

What I do believe is that TSW isn't a new WoW or trying to be. - It's a game with it's own genre like EVE Online, not that TSW it's going to be similar at all, but that the concept is going to be different enough for people to like it or, if they dislike it not say it's a bad game.

I just laughed out loud and woke up my kitten.  Shame on you.

TSW is one of those games I wasn't exactly planning on getting, but if I come back to MMORPG.com and it's not being bashed like Rodney King at an abusive L.A. Cop Convention, I might check it out.

Haha I am the opposite. If it is getting bashed here I will probably like it. The more the trolls bash the more I get interested in learning more about the game.

Ragnar knows how to market a half baked product to make it seem fully baked and he also knows how to fix a broken release game and then turn around and re-break the same game later for most players at the wimper of a big guild or two..

I would be the first to say TSW looks amazing but i have also said that about every game funcom ever released and none have ever lived up to their hype and or went without being altered in a huge and or negative way...

Im not saying raggys games are not fun as they usually are but only to a certain point, maybe if EA wasnt involved i would actually have hope that funcom finally nailed one, but...only time will tell..

And i will not buy in early unless i can try it and like it..

Wonder if ragnar has figured out that doing the biddings of one or two elite guilds is not listening to your playerbase?

I would like to thank anet, funcom and a couple others for being bold enough to finally try to evolutionize mmo gaming even though in my mind even with these advances this industry is still 5 or 6 years behind where it should be...

Playing GW2..

Nothing subpar about SWTOR except that EA pushed the game out half a year before it was ready.

Although this subpar product still managed to make major sales and keep 2~~million subs. SWTOR was a success if someone were to ask me :o

I hardly doubt TSW is going to fail. Their goal is 500k subs and I find that more than possible :J
