I bought the lifetime edition. Means after a year of playing it would of payed for itself anyway. And also Funcom is the only company out there trying something new to the genre where as other MMO developers are staying to the old cookie cutter of class, levels and quest hubs/instances which is making MMO's into a loby type game where you have to sit and wait for groups to form up before going out and running a flashpoint/dungeon.

As much as this game looks wonderful, as much as I want to play it and WILL in fact buy it and give it a whirl, I'm not going to sign up for a lifetime of something that may or may not actually live up to the expectations, realistic or otherwise.
Too often have I seen friends do this and get bit in the behind. Tabula Rasa & STO are the two big ones that I can think of. Frankly only the one guy who got a LOTRO lifetime is getting anything out of it, and even then really didn't seem worth it. If it's great, I'll pay the sub. |

Originally posted by maitrader ummm except I have all my account info, their system was faulty.. not mine. I have verfied my account several times already.. btw they STILL haven't gotten back to me... Luckily their system went back up and I was able to get an email. Why should I have to verify my account every couple of months and even if I do don't make it my fault that your effing system is down and sending emails from 1970 or not at all! Guess what and I am am now doubley sure that those that wasted their money on lifetimes... truely wasted their money.
Whats hilarious is that you didn't even read my post or you would know they they weren't repetetive at all.. they were contradictory AND that it had nothing to do with me being unable to recieve an email.

Originally posted by Olgark i have questions. 1) with a lifetime subscription do you get all the character slots they want to sell to normal subscribers? 2) if you buy a lifetime sub, is it a 1 time payment for the rest of your life until the game ever dies?(means no yearly payment.. it says lifetime afterall) 3) with lifetime sub do you get everything that a normal subscriber would get for free in general in other mmos? i ask obviously because i dont know the answer, but.... if any of the answers is No, then EA / Funcom can stick their lifetime where they see fit |

I've played about a dozen MMOs now, and so far only two of them would have given me my money's worth (DAoC and LotRO), and a third (EVE) would be close (assuming a $200 LTS price), so the odds of me getting my money's worth here are low, especially with the limited replayability of a themepark game with no classes. I'm generally opposed to the concept of a LTS as a consumer, because you are surrendering your voice and ability to vote with your wallet when you go that route. Devs already have your money, why would they give a damn if you rage over how slow they are fixing or adding things, or some change they plan on making down the road? I almost bought a LTS to STO, just because I love Star Trek, but after playing for a few days in OB, I knew that would have been a terrible mistake. I thought AoC had a lot of potential, but they just didn't have the talent or resources to pull it off. I'll still probably end up preordering in this game if they ever get around to sending me an email to unlock my account. Even though my Funcom hate was mostly appeased by the firing of Gaute Godager (since he was the architect of that fail launch), there is no way I trust Funcom enough to get a LTS for this game.

The way I see it is they are not trying to hide anything due to the fact you can buy a Lifetime sub AFTER the game goes live. If they really wanted to make a money grab then the offer would only be pre release like it was in so many other games. Unless I am mistaken ( and very well may be ) the other LTS offers have only been pre release. No try before you buy option. That to me seems a bit shady and looks like a money grab. To me funcom offering LTS pre and post release actually shows at least some confidence in their product. I think its just another payment model they are offering. Nothing sinister about it in my mind. If I would have bought LTS to AO and AoC I would have broke even at least and probably a good bit ahead considering I could log into those games whenever I wanted. I often feel like playing AoC again for a few days or a week, but dont because I have to resub again. I personally think the people who bought lifetime subs this early are jumping the gun a bit, especially since the offer will be around post release. I will be waiting until then to decide myself. But if they have the money and want to support Funcom then more power to them. To me $200 isnt much money, I spend more than that on other hobbies easily. And probably so do most of the people who have already bought LTS for TSW. If your a broke college student trying to get by until graduation then it probably isnt a safe bet. But for the folks who are not in that boat its no big deal. At least to me. I work full time and make a very good living. I will spend more than $200 taking my wife and kids out to eat this month easily. If you dont like it dont buy it, but dont trash the people that do. |

STO was still selling LTS after launch, because they were desperate for cash. LotRO closed LTSs after launch, but made them available again, and announced converting to F2P shortly after they stopped selling LTSs. |

Much like a $150CE edition of ToR. IMO I would rather drop another $50 and get a lifetime sub than spend $150 for a holodancer and a half assed "elite" vendor for cosmetic items and a statue. But this is just my opinion, take it for what it is =) |

Originally posted by jdnewell I'm 99.9% certain the $199 doesn't include the $50 box, so you're looking at $250, not $200 for a total, and $265 if you want the initiate pack. Just sayin' |

I think Im just not going to buy EA games anymore. They dont care about quality. They just want money. "Get rich quick" schemes and the like. |

To all contemplating to spend their money on a lifetime sub without having looked the actual horse in its mouth yet: Be wise and wait a bit. Apart from a few days headstart there's nothing to win but much to lose by commiting yourself early as it will be offered post launch as well: if it turns out to be a blast you can still make that step but it will be a much better informed decision. So unless you really like gambling or have a money tree in your back yard: a little patience is a virtue. <3 |

Originally posted by Eladi there goes the arguement that it costs so much more to ship to the EU that's why we pay more. Just figured out the above package you mentioned quickly for £. $355+ I used a very conservative exchange rate too no clue what it is at today. I used £1 = $1.55 it's £1 = $1.5877 today so it's $364.30 edit: for euro $372.90 for that? seriously? |
