I think Funcom wants to be almost 100% ready with what they show and talk to the press about so they dont overhype their own game with features that wont be in launch or as good as they said. You can say they have learned from the past. Since developement of the different aspects of the game go hand in hand through several literations as long as the game is in developement, they probably won't show off many aspects until they are as good as they get for launch, to not overpromise and so what is shown isnt underpar with the actual launch state of the game.

This is why they are talking about decks now, its something that they are pretty confident with wont change much until launch. They haven't talked about crafting yet because its not 100% done. Showing crafting at a earlier stage of its developement and having it change in the later stages isn't good. It may lead to overhype and dissapoint you guys.

This is the most unusual thing I've ever seen.  I have a hard time believing that they will release the game in April, considering that there's no news of any Beta test.  That could be a good thing or a bad one?  So strange.

Kudos to them for keeping up the mystery theme though.  :)

I cant even tell if Im interested in this game. I dont get hyped up for a list of features anymore and here and there a snippet of additional info. I need to see some ingame footage and read more details before that.

It all sounds nice, but so did Age of Conan and Anarchy Online before release.

I guess I expect the information sharing on the level of GW2 and SWTOR now. Im playing SWTOR now and knew up front not to expect much for replayability or spacecombat. So it saved me some disappointments and this seems to work great for me. I can now approach the game for what it is and get the enjoyment out of it that I rightfully expected.

On a sidenote : If you cant stand me naming other games, then dont bother to react. I had to use examples to show what I expect from a company about releasing information about upcoming games.

My tinfoil hat says they picked this date for optimal impact. I know the swtor fans think GW2 is their big enemy, but I still think TSW will be more of a blow to them than GW2 will ever be. 4/24 will be just a month after Swtor's so called "jesus" patch. TSW may think they can grab up all the disgruntled players and make the commitment to sub with them. Just a hunch it had some impact into their exact timing.

Beta has been going on for months now.

But very little news coming out of it.  For all anyone knows it could consist of 10 people or 25K.

Likely somewhere in between that number I'm thinking.

Yes because there is an NDA and some people respect that. Btw there are many people in the beta, definitely more than 10 :)

Yeah but it's Funcom, add a year to that date for teh game to be actually playable.  Contrary to game developper like Blizzard or Arenanet, they lauch their games when they are ready, Funcom launch theirs when they ran out of cash.

Hmmm, not really that much time between official annoucement and launch date, could mean one of two things.

One, after the bad launch of AOC they withheld the date until they were absolutlely sure it was rock solid and ready for release or...

They see the launch of GW2 on the horizon and are rushing it out the door prematurely to avoid getting lost in it's wake. (And don't forget about D3)

I'd like to believe it's the first but rather suspect it's the latter, after all, this is Funcom we're talking about.

They've said April 2012 for nearly a year now haven't they?

I honestly can't see anyway why any subsciption MMO would be that bothered about the releases of a B2P game (Guild Wars 2.)

If they were rushing it because of any game it would be Diablo 3 and Mists of Pandaria (Every MMO should fear these two much, much, much more than GW2.)

Well that certainly is tinfoilhat talk... EA is behind both SWTOR and TSW so why would they try to sink the other game. I just think their game is finished and resultingly they have to launch it at a good time. 24th APril is as good as anything else.

Remember that EA in TSW is just a co-publisher with no investment into the game itself like they are with TOR.

Other than that yeah its tinfoilhat talk.

thats good new because the less EA involves into games, the better.

Crap, so many triple A MMOs launching close to each other.
Not good for my wallet.

LOL not only MMO's got a few consoles in there too like ME3, going to be a crazy year and then will most likely be 3 or 4 more years before we see anything else. : P

Wow was buggy as hell at launch. Missing warlock and hunter talents, loot stuck bug every play session, servers going down every week or so, random ctds, warrior charge through crack in floor and fall through space bug. Unrepairable item bug etc...

When will people drop this myth that wow had a smooth launch.

Examples of good launches - coh & rift.
