MMORPG.com is proud to play host to the many bloggers that call our site home. Occasionally, an entry of such quality and relevance is posted that we feel like we just have to highlight it so that everyone can enjoy it. Today, with the lift of the Darkfall NDA, a post was made that we simply couldn't pass up. The blog is called Paragus Rants and the entry is Review: Darkfall Beta.
For those looking for a great overview of the game and what it's about, you're in for a treat as Paragus1 has clearly put time and effort into presenting an even and balanced look at the game that he has played so far.
Darkfall Online is a game that is not for everyone. The nature of the game is such that you will either love it or absolutely hate it depending on your playstyle. If you are a casual gamer, someone who does not like harsh PvP in an MMORPG, or you place a heavy emphasis on graphics, there will probably be little here that will appeal to you. On the other hand, if your MMO history involves playing games like Ultima Online or Asheron's Call, like PvP with consequences, and value gameplay over graphics, there is a good chance that this game will provide you with something you have haven't seen in a long time.
despite the game not being an "A+" I'd still want to try it considering how differeint it looks and feels from everything else!
Pretty darn good review. The two biggest negatives for me was how empty the world is and the crafting grind. You really have to hunt for npcs and I think they need to address skilling up crafting skills.
The only thing I would say is that the game is really just not ready for release yet. Far too many issues, but then I understand they had to get it out and start making some money too.
This game could be good in a year or so, hard to tell, but it is nice to see something other than the vaporware tag.
IMO some things can only be objerved when the game is live and with some feedback from players will hopefully tune it as it needs. bugs? im sure there will be some...issues hell yes..but still they cant wipe out every possible issue and bug if the game isnt live. Beta can sort most of the issues but sure not all. lets give them a chance to try their best.
Thanks for the feature Jon.
Like I said in the review, they have been dropping pretty serious patches about once every 1-3 days. These patches are pretty meaty and for the most part seem to address some of the issues testers have reported. If they continue at this rate, I think the game will eventually pick up steam. Considering the release is somewhat limit in regards to access, you might want to wait for the second round of keys to become available to allow them to polish things up more.
I have spoken with Tasos via PMs during the beta, and I told him my concern about the number of mobs, and I also know he read the article. Safe to say he is definitely aware of the issue and hopefully it will get adressed. A lot of the patches have been creeping up the number of mobs, but it is still not as high as I would like to see it. I think it will get where it needs to be pretty soon.
This game sucks lets forget about it in a month after the company pulls off some scam, its gonna happen just wait.

Oh, that's awesome to hear. Good to see that he's playing a fairly active role in the beta so far.
