i think the game will live past janurary based on the TC update. More people will sub for that than dawn and it has a better chance of keeping them playing especially considering the current istuation with swg and darkfall, 2 mmo sandbox games coming to a close means people looking for something else.

Is there any truth to it?

I read somewhere online that it's not closing.

If Darkfall is shutting down, there have certainly not been any announcements otherwise the official forums would be going nuts, not just a random troll on a 3rd party website mentioning it in passing (referring to Deathshroud, not the OP).

Henrik calculated how many subscriptions Mortal Online needs to not lose money month-to-month, and they were 800 below that limit.

Darkfall does have at least few thousand subscriptions more between two servers. And at it's peak DF had 5x more subscriptions than Mortal Online ever had. Besides DF is only one of many projects of Aventurine, most of them not related to gaming.

So I suppose that DF is in much better shape financially than Mortal Online.

For now it seems that AV is betting everything on DF Arena - otherwise they would not even consider partial wipe.

It's not the question whether DF will close. Even if Darkfall 2.0 and asian servers will completely fail, it would be put on life support, just like Vanguard : Saga of Heroes, Istaria etc. with one bugfix patch every year.

Well they announced they will launch a version 2 of their game, which is a "total" revamp of it. If they were closing it would be a bit silly to make a revamp isn't it? Especially because that announcement probably cost them some sub since they couldn't deny the possibility of a wipe. So if it is closing its probably to open up fresh.

I think the Darkfall situation he was referring to was the reset, and the assumption that it will potentially drive away more players than it will attract..

pretty much this, both darkfall 1.0 and darkfall 2.0 obviously cannot co exist meaning the original darkfall will of cousre be shutdown and replaced with darkfall2.0. With possible wipe and changes to game mechanics and little information released right now players do feel like trying out other games, who knows maybe they will find soemthing else to play. Its potentially damaging to the game simply based off of the lack of information regarding darkfall2.0 is it worth palying when everything your doing could potentially be wiped soon.

Is it not obvious to everyone what AV is going to do?

Same thing they did with the NA server.  They will relaunch Darkfall 2.0 on a new server, with all new characters.  3-4 months in AV will allow character transfers that will convert old characters to the new skill-capped system.

This will be a brilliant move financially because everyone will want to buy a new char on the new server to get house spots, cities built, etc.  4 months in, the vets will be allowed back and by then the new chars will have at least one tree capped out so it won't be a big unbalanced nightmare.  Many vets will continue to play both their vet character on the old server, and their new character on the new server, generating AV more money.

There will not be a wipe.  There will not be vet characters on day 1.  Everyone will be happy.

The only serious grind left in the current game is buffs.

You can meditate stats and spell schools.  Offensive spells can be macroed past 75 in a few days, or just use them and enjoy the game.

Buffs are the one type of spell that really takes a shitload of time to grind up.  But if you think about it, with capped skill trees you will only be focusing on one or two types of buffs, instead of 8-10 types of buffs, so it won't be a big deal.

Who cares about a couple months of grind?  It won't be massive grind unless you choose to skill up every tree (and since you can only use one tree at a time, people who don't want to grind will be viable in their role).  If you want the grind it will still be there for you, but you don't HAVE to do it to be good at your role.

Stop with US server and continuing with Darkfall2.0 in Europe with wipe make advertisement release box version with gamecard in all gameshops around Europe and US.

Make sure macro is out afk is out and exploits to absolute minimun if posible, cheaters destroying games like darkfall.

Make server all RED get rid of damn towers there stupid and dont belong in a game like darkfall, let players deside with who is enemy and be ANTI or RPK  aliignment system sucks.

Bring back to lore as it was intended with race wars and four legs Run for mahirim.

Kill all the humans and elfs in AGON thats first priority:P

Don't bow to demands of white pve players who want protection thats also ruining Darkfall. Give back Darkfall to hardcore gamers it was suppose to be our game not damn casuals from WoW and similar games.

My 2 cents on matter. I'll prolly alone on this one, so dont worry about it prolly wont do any effect on devs anyway this reply is useless im affraid hehe.

Waiting for Guildwars 2 - played:AC-Darktide,AC2-Darktide,L2 and Darkfall.Solo Fav games:Morrowind, Skyrim, Bioshock, Age of Empires 2, Soldiers of fortune 2 and many more...

This sounds good. But it wasn't obvious to me because I don't know what AV is thinking or why they do a lot of the things they do.

Can you tell me why it's obvious for AV to do what you said? (I'm a little slow, apparently.)

yea i mean wouldnt it of been more obvious to just release the content they have for darkfall 2.0 to darkfall (current version) instead of holding it all back for a relaunch when the game needs new content. I mean if they arent going to wipe the server whats the point of a relaunch.

I think AV are just being coy about the server wipe. To paraphrase Bill Clinton, they are saying: "It all depends on what the meaning of 'wipe' is".

AV has to get rid of the characters in current DF who have massive skillpoint pools built up. If they "nerf" these characters by stripping their skillpoints, there will be a massive outcry, and many potential lost subs.

So they will launch a "brand new" DF2, where everyone has to start from scratch with brand new characters. That way, they can say there was no wipe, because it's not the same game !

I have heard that in games where you b2p you do not need subs to survive so by that argument Darkfall does not need a certain number to survive. They should be able to go on even if the numbers drop.

Healthy is not exactly the world I would choose, but if DF would close down it would be because Avi lost their contract with the Greek army, not because the number of players.

Avi got a lot of EU money to make DF which mean they can run it with very few players, most MMO companies have large loans they need to repay and that cost money. But Avi is dependent on their contract for the Greek army and if the Greeks goverment would cut it due to budget cuts they will go out of business and that could actually happen, the Greek goverment are cutting a lot of things.

If that would be the case I don't think Henrik would know it before the DF players here. I think he heard that they closing it down but misses that is because they upgrade it to DF 2. So no reason to panic.
