Here are the development notes for the new siege system :

 -New Siege system. For more specific information on this read the related article as well as the Siege System Manual that has been compiled by Jon, the main developer of the new system. You can get the Manual in PDF format here.

 -Resource changes:

  • Clan-stone hamlet, health decreased.
  • Clan-stone city, health increased.
  • Small siege-stone, health decreased.
  • Small siege-stone, maximum binds increased.
  • Large siege-stone, health decreased.
  • Medium siege-stone now “useless”, can be sold back to NPC Vendors for full-refund.
  • New item – protection shard small, gives 3 hours protection from siege initiation.
  • New item – protection shard large, gives 6 hours protection from siege initiation.
  • Both protection shard items can be purchased from Councillor NPC in racial capitals
  • Protection shards must be activated near the clan-stone of the holding to be protected, by a high-ranking clan member of the clan who owns the holding, and only that holding will be protected
  • Protection shard items share a clan-wide 24-hour cool-down (ie. only 1 can be used, per clan, per 24 hours)
  • Clan-city barrels prop, health decreased.

 -Activation timers added to dungeon portals. To activate a dungeon portal you will need to stand still for 10 seconds after using it.

This is a massive system, and while it has been tested thoroughly, we do expect some glitches to perhaps surface while in use by the players. The developers are standing by. Your feedback will be crucial for quick fixes to be implemented.

I just don't understand DF. The players who quit and those that have stuck around have been saying what they want done to the game for years now (better UI/no autohotkey required, better AI, smaller world, less grind, skill cap) and DF comes out with this huge elaborant siege system.

Priorities really need to come in line.

You list contains things i doubt the playerbase of  DF actually want implemented.

Who would want a smaller world ? We are happy in DF to have the best and one of the biggest map's in a MMOPRPG that isn't random but handcrafted.

The skill cap is also debatable and the playerbase in majority prefer a better and more flexible solution then just a skill cap.

That brings us to the current situation were UI and specializations and even the world map is being worked on. In that regard , do you heard a MMORPG is revamping its UI interface ? That alone is a massive task that takes a long time to implement . They need to bind  a lot of their ressources to work on what you demand and on the same time keep the current version going.

The current playerbase (those who pay real money and not just write posts on what they want to see in game) wanted the siege system beeing worked on for the current live version  and thats what the company did.  Despite the huge devlopement task in the background they released a siege revamp patch.

 -Activation timers added to dungeon portals. To activate a dungeon portal you will need to stand still for 10 seconds after using it.

 

this has been wanted by the community for more than 2 years and they add it... too late

how hard can it be?

Ya, you're right. The current player base (all 50 of them) love DF the way it is. The rest of us want a game we can actually paly.

Ya man. Spending one hour (two if you don't have a mount) to get anywhere is cool. Esspecially when it's in an empty ass, barren world with nothing but landscapes and no spawns. DF, to their credit, tried to fix this glaring problem by adding town portals and stuff, but it wasn't enough. Add a subway portal like AC had so players can get somewhere, but really: make the damn world smaller. It's too big for the low population.

Wrong again. People have been screaming for a skill cap or soft caps since beta. Only people who haven't are the vets who have rez-killed every last player away from the game. Clearly you have no idea about what you are talking about.

lol adventurine are one really wierd piece of brain..if they have any brains.

 

They release a new siege system, took them severall months, for who?? there arent people playing DF, first they should:

 

Remake the UI that is horrible still after years

Put some kind of skill cap

Remove grind with all the afk macroers

Remove bunny hopping

In general, check what the games with millions of subs have and implement some of them

My thoughts exactly. Why release new gameplay in a game that has no players? Why not fix what's keeping people away first? Makes absolutely no sense to me.

Where do you got  your  "50" for current playerbase.  Any sources ?

According to the eu1 map that fecthes clan roster and active numbers there are 2k with a sub alone on the eu server.(Note: people with sub not people who actually play active but nevertheless they pay)

Making the map smaller is really one of the most ridicoulus suggestions for a MMORPG. We want the world bigger and they should add more continents and islands to explore if anything. MMORPG's even release expansion with new landmasses and that way also DF should go.  I agree they should offer more options to interact with world be it more spawns or treasure spot s etc. but making the map smaller (and thous the world) is like giving up as for MMORPG game. They should also remove all the means to travel fast (aka portals)  so the big world plays a bigger role.  -removing city portals, which they say they will do with DF 2.0 - 

Now i see where you coming from..you want the game reduced to a big FPS arena, so you can be everywhere within seconds. 

My suggestion for you, don'rt wait for DF , play some FPS shooter arena and you good.

I've given up on indie companies trying to produce MMO's that are just too complex for them to manage...

EU1 only has maybe 10-15 players on at any given time. The world is empty and all the EU players complain about it.

DF should do something like LINKREALMS where the world is only so big to fit the current population. When it gets bigger, the world gets biggers.

Even Tasos complains about the world being too big. In a Q&A from awhile back some dude asked about new lands being opened up and he said short and direct like, "We already have too much land. No way we are adding more."

Go play some FPS? Lol. That's such a stereotypical DF vet thing to say. Since you are probably a vet I hope you look forward to the wipe that is coming.

While you are correct, the game is rather innactive...those numbers are far off.  EU sieges have shown recently to be around 100.  NA probably has about a 400 person pop right now.  having a huge map makes it so you only see one another in sieges.  Right now, they need to get 2.0 out quick...it'll make or break the game.

I dont know about NA1, but EU1 are really happy about that siege system and most players already resubed to test it.

 

For those who do not understand, before that siege patch, a player could siege himself none stop to lock down all his cities at once. With that new system, its not possible to perform that exploit anymore.

What you guys need to understand is, DF player base are not happy when they are restricted. Now, we can siege who ever we want. The second proriority to bring back also the newb's, is to make sea towers go live at prime time on NA1. This is the best event to bring both newb's and vets since anyone can handle the canons.

Ho noes, an indie game use his players to test their system. This is not your typical mainstream AAA mmo where they can pay anything for everything.
