I took a look at the Darkfall forums for the first time in a very long time today and I was shocked by the massive shift in player opinion. There are a lot of veteran players, including a lot of names I recognize as once being avid defenders of all things Aventurine, that are expressing some eerily familiar opinions including:

My take on this is AV is hyping up this "patch" like its a new game trying to get the same level buzz going like they had at launch. Its not going to work this time........ |

The official forums are run by about 25 trolls who hate the game, but for some reason stay subbed.
They make thread after thread on the same subject and all post on eachothers threads in agreement. Usually about whatever obscure feature they can hold on to. Sometimes its the sea towers, which are a minor part of the game (the timers are messed up) other times its the wipe discussion they created ( Tasos said no wipe when the project started)...either way the goal is what your doing here...to provide proof positive that the game is dead or should be dead, in the hopes of driving new players away.
Its typical of any game with a large following of haters who, for some reason, continue to play. The diffrence is, on the darkfall forums, that the people who actually do enjoy the game stay far away. This gives the impressiont hat 5-10 people out of the 50 who do play actually like the game. Reality is far more people play, and most in game absolutly love the game...as it its...the minor flaws included.
Going onto the darkfall forums is the worst possibly thing you could do to find out the state of the game, making a trial account would be the better option. I suggest rolling either human, mahrim, or alfar, as the ork/dwarf lands can be a bit empty since most of those races hang out in their race alliance areas.
Give it a try for yourself if youve been away for a while, not a whole lot has changed, other than it being much easier to skill up. Most significant changes are going to be in 2.0...which is still a decent ways off.
However i will say, that the long term verterans experience the downfalls of the game more than any other segment, other than brand new players who have to deal with the UI. This is why i never understood the mad rush to reach those higher skill levels and "endgame" related activites. Currently however, for a normal player who wont macro, and is able to get use to the UI/binding has at their hands a pretty polished game for about 6 to 8 months before clan holdings/ seiges and stuff related to endgame start to chip away at their patience. I can understand why some vets would pack up and take a break untill 2.0. Newer players have nothing to worry about, the best part of this game starts after you familiarize yourself with the game and start to progress. |

@Stranger its a lot more than 5 people and I watched the forumfall PVP as a hobby for almost a year, far longer than I actually played the game. Believe my I saw several names that were making excuses for AV left right and center a few months ago quietly agreeing with the negative opinion peices. I didn't see a couple haters and morons polluting a forum. I saw a forum full of former fans that are echoing what those they branded as "trolls," were saying about Darkfall and Aventurine two years ago. There used to be a culture of hardcore vocal fans that leapt on any negative post like rabid weasels, ripped it to pieces, called the author a hater, then patted each other on the back and expoused how wonderful Darkfall was. Somehow I don't think they stopped defending the game because they are having too much fun playing. Even MMORPG.com's resident fanbot is starting to slow down/ run out of excuses. Dem hibbies! Dey be wrong! |

Originally posted by Cecropia I can only speak for myself, but personally, I have been on a hiatus from both mmos and this site. But have no fear, my dear, I shall return soon enough to help keep all of the trolls, whiners, and attention seekers in check.

Forumfall was always known for trolling the devs (and each other) and for negativity towards the game and the company. This is no news for everyone familiar with forumfall.

Originally posted by DarthRaiden I know you always put a positive spin on everything Darth but seriously I *WATCHED* forumfall for a YEAR. Yes there were always "Trolls" and "Haters." There were also rabid fanboi's like yourself that defended the game. The whole reason I read the forum was to watch the hilarious forum PVP between the various factions. It used to be that there were a few people posting legit criticisms, a lot of people loudly posting extreme flaming criticisms(AKA Trolls), a few moderate supporters of the game and a whole lot of rabid fans like yourself. Now days there are very few people that fit the rabid troll description, and next to no rabid fans left. There are a lot of former fans echoing the same criticisms that they dismissed as "Trolling" two years ago. Frankly you are one of the last remnants of a dying breed. Dem hibbies! Dey be wrong! |

To me, trolls are a sign that there is potential and the game still has something to offer. Its when the trolls shut-up and don't care anymore that you really have to worry. |

Originally posted by Holgranth Considering DF 2.0's original codename was DF 2010 anyone who still honestly believes that...just hasn't been around long enough. DF 2.0 can't "launch on time" because it has no set release window. They've strung us along for over a year now with no estimated release date. Something that's already a year late and has no new estimated release date can't be "on time". That's why us vets echo the trolls. |

Originally posted by Holgranth If I actually cared enough to defame AV (like they don't do it themselves) I'd dig up quotes from the forums of them saying Q3 2010 (these claims were made middle of last year), followed by "the end of the year". When 2010 ended there was a massive uproar and AV responded with "DF 2010 was just an internal codename and never an anticipated release date, it will be officially called DF 2.0". We all called bullshit, and 9 months later here we are, with no release date set from AV. This expansion is over a year late. There are only a few thousand subs left. I want to play the game DF was supposed to be, but I think it's already too late. |

Originally posted by byz4ntinian It was actually called "DarkFall Arena" (after failing to launch DarkFall 2010 in...2010) and was only recently dubbed "DarkFall 2.0" somewhere around June back when Tasos made the very first mention of the Wipe which caused and still cause some pretty big outrage on the forums
Edit: I'd also like to point out that according to AV's words, DarkFall 2.0 was only in a planning stage and that they had a completly different team working on it which would not affect DarkFall...but we all know now that was a complete bunch of lies. ------ |

That would be sweet if 2.0 would be launched with advertisement and a huge wave of incoming players!
Pleeeeeease come back, people!
The worst thing about the game is its current pop. NEWS FLASH! A bank was robbed the other day and a man opened fire on the customers being held hostage. One customer zig-zag sprinted until he found cover. When questioned later he explained that he was a hardcore Darkfall Online player and knew just what to do. |

Darkfall is a beast thats starving, it hasnt been fed any new content in a very long time and thats why players are disgruntled. If and when new content is added players will return as the core product is sound, but its like listening to the same song over currently, it soon starts to get old. And what the frack is with the OP, following a forum as a hobby, thats the most retarded thing i've ever heard. |

Even if DFO 2.0 releases bug-free and before 2012 I think there will always alot of negativity towards AV. The game iteself has major flaws currently which AV for some reason won't fix no matter how simple it is. No matter the state of 2.0 when it releases, AV has given themselves a bad name until DFO shuts its doors "Mom, I play Tera for the gameplay I swear!!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-2paFdRw_U |

I would like to see more rabbits in DF 2.0. There arent many rabbits out there in the game right now. And fishing the same type of fish in rivers and sea is realy anoying. I think they need to improve PVE parts of the game, better crafting, housing, fluff... The PVP part of a game is great, but thats just not enough. There is more to sandbox then full loot PVP. They shoud have add a lil content every month or two, instead of trying to bring all at once (DF2.0 or arena or whatever it is called). That would make vets happier imo. |

OP, how can you tell a vet from a no-life troll who accumulates thousands of posts when you don't even play the game? The real veterans are playing the game and not crying on the forums all the time. The DF forum is just a place where the crybabies who the game wasn't meant for like to congregate and pat each other on the back and wipe each others noses. |
