Darkfall, Darkfall, Darkfall!!

For only six months of grinding mobs, you can then take part in our amazing PvP where you will get pummelled by more experienced players all day!

Live the life.  Live to die!

Right, great advertisement.  My problem with the game wasn't even the grind.  It was the things that caused the grind.  The fact that there is no skill point cap.  Which makes most builds very similar, it destroys the diversity of classes.  This in itself makes the grind so long.  If you actually had to focus your skill points in certain areas, you wouldn't have to wait so long to be viable.  Thus, they could open up multiple character slots for replayability.  This also hurts the playablility of the game.  Most fans and followers seem to not be able to see the actual flaws and why people are disappointed.  It's certainly not because of the PvE or the PvP itself.  It's not because they get killed by other players either, or get their stuff looted.  Most people know that coming into the game.  They've changed a lot of things over the course of Darkfalls lifespan, but the core of the game is still flawed.  The only way they will fix the game is to address those issues.  Go away from being a Clan PvP game into a more social/casual game.  I'm talking about harvesting protection through added weight that can be circumvented through a harvesting lore type of skill.  This helps prevent most ganking unless someone builds a harvester ganker specific build, which would be useless in almost all other PvP because of a skill point cap.  Social games.  More focus on making crafting more powerful.  Helping the economy.  Going to a full 3rd person view, even when weilding a staff or bow.  Making a global murder system instead of a racial system that no one cares about (has this been fixed?).. these are just some things.

I did try the game a little while back and enjoyed it until I went out with the guild a realized that I couldn't even do damage to naked players while being fully armored with a weapon.  I was completely useless in exception for a decoy.  I could understand greatly reduced damage, but I was doing maybe 1 damage if I managed to hit someone.  Did I mention they were naked?  Fix the core systems in the game and maybe they can survive.  From what I've heard for Darkfall 2.0, they aren't fixing what needs to be fixed.  I have little hope that it will be any different than the first one.

I played Darkfall in beta and played it sometime after beta for a short-while before canceling my account, the grind however was just too much.. I am a hardcore roleplayer myself and when I went into Darkfall I was expecting some great roleplaying experience, but they got rid of the RP section on their forums and the game featured no social interaction.. As a FPS, the game does not work.. Third Person Melee and FPS combat for magic/arrows does not work well in a MMORPG, for combat it is nice, but for everything else it is bad.. The constant same keystrokes I was using for everything got old after a while, you gotta use a keystroke to open up your bank, you use it to shop, trade, loot items, switch weapons and it basically pauses your character since the game is FPS, the combat system in DCU is real nice and something they should aim towards.. I believe this game should be strictly third person shooter and melee.. And back to the roleplaying aspects, there is none, it is hard to use emotes and there are no chat bubbles, there is little to no social interaction in the game..

If only.. DFO has always been a game with potential... and if they actually implemented half of what you stated.. they'd improve the game by at least 1000 percent imo...

Ive got to agree that the PVE in the current game is epic.  You wont be done with this game in a month or three.  However the most vocal players are the "endgame NOW" crowd, as of course, develoeprs will listen to them and make the pve progress easier (again).

Will say..if your looking for a solid PVE game that isnt by any means easy.  DF is a game you need to check out.  Just remember, anything you lose (especially early on in the game) is beyone easy to replace.  All gear has a very short life, either through the no-repair durability/breaking though pve or though being pvp looted.

If your sick of themeparks, the is by far the best sandbox game when it comes to pve...by a long shot.

You and me differ here, I do not consider Darkfall to be a sandbox, it works nice as a combat simulator, the PVP and the COMBAT is realistic, but that doesn't make it a sandbox.. If you have played any other sandbox MMORPG you will know that in others politics and diplomacy play very important roles and social interaction played a very important role, the ability to roleplay in a sandbox MMORPG is a must..

And there is nothing dynamic at all in the game besides the weather, nothing is dynamic, you can't change any of the landscape, there is no dynamic mobs or dynamic housing, even if there was dynamic housing.. LOOK AT UO, in UO you can build your house anyway you want to, the possibilities to building a house in Ultima Online are endless, you can lock stuff down in your house, decorate it, make it look pretty, RP guilds will ban together and make player towns, you can put up vendors, as much as you want and sell your wares on them..

Darkfall has none of this fluff to it, it needs FLUFF, there is nothing there, the game is barren and empty.. The fact that you can't repair btw takes away realism from the game... Also, mages wearing HEAVY ARMOUR, what the heck? Heavy armour should at least slow down a mage and slow his casting waaaay down, this is a feature that should have been implemented in Darkfall for balance in PVP..

Tol, I dont think you get it.  Hardcore PVE'ers are not PvP'ers, they dont like to get ganked right before they kill a mob they have been grinding down for 15 mns.  They dont like to get ganked and have all their gear gold items and mats stripped from their corpse nulifying hours of work.  Hardcore PVE' crafters dont like getting ganked and striped after spending hours out farming mats.  Hardcore PVE'ers dont like running for hours back and forth to the bank everytime they find a morsel of something good.  Hardcore PVE'ers dont like gettng ganked while trading something of enorrmous value they just worked days to make.  Hardcore PVE'ers dont like getting ganked at the crafing table loaded with mats representing hours and hours or days of work.  Hardcore PVE players dont like having to decide what items to take out on a dungeon run only for fear of losing  every item forever.  Hardcore PVEers dont like skulking around in fear while they are performing any of the things I described above. The hardcore PVE player wants to have the best gear on 100% of the time and go where they want and when they want with confidence and in total CONTROL their surroundings.   Anyone that enjoys what I described above is a hardcore PvPer not a PVEer.  Do you see the difference?

I agree Darkfall is an amazing PVE experience. If you play it right there is no other game that compares. But what AV fails to understand and what players that like disruptive PVP dont understand is that these are two totally and completely different markets. I think you meant to say Darkfall is the best hardcore PVE game for people that like full loot free for all PVP, which there are very very few.  There are far more pure hardcore PvP gamers out there but even that is a shallow pond.

That my friend is one of the key problems with maintaining a decent population and interest level, AV is building two games at once and expecting both groups to come to the party.  Its not gonna happen.

But see that is what makes DF such a hardcore PVE game.

You cant afk, you cant grind a mob for 15 hours and not expect someone to pay you a visit.

You have to be careful and smart when pveing.  Banking often, carefully weighing risk vs reward in terms of where you go and how long you stay.  These are things completely abscent from all pve games.  Most pve games are centerd around grinding for gear, getting the epic raid gear, and dps race mechanics.  DF is none of those, as its pve is based on resource gains and character progression.

I disagree witht he guy who says for a game to be sandbox you need 100% customizable houses and more than dynamic weather.  This game offers one of the only "be it all" experience with one character.  Everything you do adds to the characters overall stregnth.  I dont know any other games that gives you only one character and makes it work...since most sandboxes need to give you multiple characters to cover all the roles you get capped out at.

Its not the ideal sandbox for those interested in playing house, or other fluff.  Its a raw sandbox in the aspect of you can be whatever you want to be at any time, no restrictions.  It works out well since you can fight mobs just as well if you can craft the gear that will allow you to farm those harder mobs, for resources you can use to enchant better weapons and gear that you made.  Switching combat roles on the fly as the situation warrents.

The sad thing about darkfall is that the full loot pvp, and the horror stories over a launch that had 50 people fighting over one mob spawn, really over shadow the great sandbox pve, and really deters the people who would absolutly love the pve.

This isnt a game where your losing your purple raid gear from pvp...its actually done quite well where any gear is short lived regardless of a pvp loss, and since your farming of mobs, resource nodes, or even other players, can net you the resources to replace what breaks though durability loss of pvp loss with ease.  Its like a self feeding cycle of gearl los, resource gain and gear replacement.  At any step in this cycle you can bypass doing it yourself and pay others do do it for you, either by selling materials or farming mobs that drop more gold that resources...even farming mobs for low duribility gear if you need to.

Personally, I've been playing computer games since zork. I've coded muds, fell in love with WoW vanilla, uo and many other familiar games people would know.

I've been on a lookout for a great sandbox that has full or partial loot pvp and is fantasy.

I'm a 2005er on darkfall forums and played it for maybe 2 days - and I knew it was trash.

The only interest I still have in darkfall is the amazment I feel watching people still playing the game. It clearly shows how many of the newer gamers are keeping bad companies in business.

Unless of course you take into account aventurine is really just building an engine and that the game itself is a secondary venture to show what the engine can do.

But either way, continuing playing the game rates somewhere between guys still playing WoW and calling it cutting edge and the strange people playing browser based games on facebook.

I just can't believe it !

99% of those who watched the product launch made the same decision, 18 months ago.

He who fights and runs away... misses out on the loot

I think its a pretty fun game.  I played it for some time, but there just isn't enough options for things to do for me.  I wish it had a few more sandbox elements to it to make it more diverse.

It's only a model
