Sounds pretty good. I'm excited for this to come out. I reallly enjoyed DF:O but between the UI, the lack of any available player housing, and just the endless feeling of inadequacy made the game kinda dull.
Hopefully this new UI also fixes that shitty journal / clan system they had before. |

* Combat dynamics are much more tactical now. Changes affect several skills like blocking and disabling blow, and introduce new mechanics such as momentum and crosshair wobble.
This sound very intresting, a change i was hoping for. -----MY-TERMS-OF-USE-------------------------------------------------- "There was suppression of speech and all kinds of things between disturbing and fascistic." Raph Koster (parted $OE) |

I guess Aussies have beaches and a working economy, it would be rude to want good ping also ;) Playing: Lotro (lifer), Tera, D3 (addicted to levelling hardcore characters) |

Originally posted by marcust actually your wrong momentum means players cannot sprint zig zag like crazy making them less impossible to predict, more predictable movement = alot easier time aiming with high ping. at least we assume thats what they meant, will have to wait and see. |

Have they given any indication as to approximately how far off this is? Are we talking months or years?
It does sound pretty good.

I will re-subscribe, buy it anew, what ever when Tacos sells Aventurine to a western development company. Until then, I can't trust DFO with my time or money.

The momentum system will simply put an end, or drastically reduce the not present zig zag twitch movement. This will put more of a focus on fighting rather than moving all over the place. Currently the game uses a basic FPS style movement where you press forward and are instantly going to speed, with the ability to change direction at top speed on a dime. A lot of people are comparing this to mount and blade style. Hopefully this will be a skillable attribute, and effected by what armor your wearing...as it makes little sense for someone in full plate to be a agile and nimble as someone in leather.
Thre is also the addition of a crosshair wobble, that most are suspecting is going to be effected by moving while trying to engage in combat. This would be interesting for range combat, as someone whos running around would have a slight accuracy reduction to someone standing still aiming.
Given the amount of overhaul taking place, you have to assume this isnt going to be anywhere near ready untill some time in 2012. |

If 2.0 is released within a year i'll be shocked and happy. Still no information about whether a wipe is going to occur with the current version though. |

Originally posted by Vandali Well the non-subscriber induced wipe frenzy has subsided a bit, since we have more info to work with.
As for the bank wipe...this was based off the knowledge that new 2.0 gear will render old gear 100% worthless, and therefore the only solution was to wipe every single players bank of all items (even stuff not effected). This was kind of a silly assumption, since past updates have renderd old equipment useless, also, nothing is stoping you from npcing any worthless gear. On top of that, they are adding a new salvage skill, which would make short work of any gear that is worthless. A bank wipe seems utterly ridiculous given all the other means of dealing with new gear.
As for the skill wipe... well despite they havent officially denounced this idea (which gave rise to talk that its happening with 100% certaincy for some reason) Any new skills created could be added with ease, you just buy it and start skilling it. And old skills that are being removed could just be removed. They are not redoing the skill system, to where it would be impossible to convert every skill without a fresh wipe. They are however making gear more dependant on what skills you use, and offering ways to completely specialize though the use of gear and prestige classes. This is something placed on top of the current skill system. You can still be a hybrid "everything at once" which currently is the only way to go, however it wont be the case where some veteran hybrid is charging at you in full warrior gear while destroying you with magic, then switching to axe and arrow, each role being as strong as possible...veterans are now going to have to choose, via what gear they are using, which aspect they want to excel in. Some gear may even block other skills use (probably only high end gear with specific and uber stats/enhancements) This means, that a casual player will be able to specialize fairly quick and be competative in one specific role, while veterans with everything already maxed will be able to choose which role to excel in, or go hybrid and do it all with limited effectivness. I agree, that the previous blogpost about the wipe talk made things worse by saying along the lines that "it wouldnt be as drastic under the current system" and with this new info we can see why..however it seems completely retarded to fully wipe skills since most will remain the same (granted im sure some redundant skills will be removed and some new skills may be added) the only thing diffrent is what gear your using will effect what you can and cant do. |

I am psyched. I really enjoyed my time in Darkfall, but a few key problems kept me from sticking with the game. So far, 2.0 looks like a fix for those major grievances. Two examples already mentioned- 1) Master of all trades- the new armor limitations are actually what I had suggested awhile back, making your equipment more or less force you into a certain role. I remember heavy armor being the only thing people wore since there was no point in not just having the highest mitigation set. Now, light and medium will become very useful. Also, it will bring some much needed balance I imagine as being a fully plated beast cycling high end AOE spells was... the only way to really compete and kinda lame IMO. Maybe now we'll see every playstyle afforded by Darkfall becoming viable. 2) The wobble- I couldn't play Darkfall for long in a single session because I get motion sick from old school FPS games that don't use at least a wobble for some reason. I wish I was making this up. |

It's Aventurine.
1. The announcement of the ETA for DF2 will be delayed a few times, each delay being blamed on a variety of colourfull reasons.
2. Finally, the launch date will be fixed, and it will be set for 2-3 months after the announcement.
3. Then the launch date will be postponed a few times, again explained with some very inventive reasoning.
4. Finally DF2 will actually launch, but with 50% of the original features missing.
5. These missing features will be promised for a future patch, the ETA of which will be announced.
6. Go back to Step 1.... |
