Ok, I'd like to try out DF (for the first time), but I dont want buy a game box only to be wiped or forced to buy another one few months later. So, is DF2 a new game or an expansion pack? Some say its a new game, some say its like an expansion, others say its new game but its like expansion. What the hell is DF2? Will there be 2 separate games like lets say Warcraft III and WoW or will it be expansion like Classic wow and BC wow? Thanks. |

It's kind of a re-launch of Darkfall. I suggest reading up on it at http://www.darkfallonline.com/blog/. "Skill has not cool downed!" |

As I understand the term "relaunch" they will launch the same game but vastly updated. So there will be only DF2, it gonna be like Cata to WoW :) |

If there is one thing I learnt about Darkfall, its dont believe it until you see it. Their language is so vague you can make any interpretation on it you want, and guessing their meaning ahead of time is simply a waste of time. Playing: Lotro (lifer), Tera, D3 (addicted to levelling hardcore characters) |

@ op
Nobody knows what will happen with the 2.0 darkfall online..
Every stating there own opinions based on speculation..
There is no official info about 2.0..
Question like: Whipe yes or no. Armor adjustments. Increase skill gains.
Nobody knows. AV ain't telling anything about this upcoming whatever.
My advise to you is:
If your intrested in darkfall you should wait till the 2.0 which will prolly starting next year hopefully. As stated before.. none knows when it will comes or what it will bring. |

Yeah stay with WOW. In that game you can atleast get some pvp without having to run around for hours. |

it's very simple. if they say "yes we will wipe the server and there will be a skill cap and armor classes.." then their current playerbase will stop paying. they will then have to hope that their changes will bring enough new subscribers to keep them in business. this is very risky given the already small niche appeal fo this game.
if they say "there really wont be much change except some visual upgrades and a few minor changes..." then they litteraly kill any interest in this "expansion" and all the work they have done goes down the tube. not gonna happen.
so they keep it vague, nobody knows what the hell it really is or how many actual changes there will be. the current players keep playing and the they can continue promoting it as a "new and much improved" version of DF to everyone else. the same game but not.
we will have to just wait and see when it actually launches what the heck "it" actually is. my guess, it will probably be somewere in between. they will probably not completely wipe anything and they wont put any hard caps on anything. they will try to please the old players but have something for the new players. we just have to hope the result is a fun combo to play. |

Well...the way i read the blogpost [http://www.darkfallonline.com/blog/darkfall-2-0/]...was along the lines of a wipe wont really matter all that much in 2.0. What that probably means, is that they addressed the grind issue, my thoughts are that DF is going to be a Mortal Online style skill system, rather than a permanant static skill system where you level it to max, then mabey you use it mabey you dont. I think were going to see not only a cumulative cap on skills, but a system where unused skills decay. Really the only issue with pain int he ass grinding is magic, since its a pain to use (macroing on friends excluded) added to the fact that its extremely overpowerd and an absolute must in pvp...hopefully they fix this...the magic system is (IMO) way too much in terms of things that need to be leveld, and way too much in terms of what it can do...your basically forced into being a mage to be competative currently, and the magic skills take ages to level up (whereas most (not all) find the melee system to be fun to level). They are redoing the magic system thankfully, and hopefully youll be able to be competative without needing it.
Either way, we dont know.
Just to clear this all up for those who are concerned, the reason there is wipe talk, is that they didnt 100% confirm that NO wipe will exist, therefore the community thinks there is 100% chance of a wipe, they mentioned the wipe in the blog post i linked, simply because the second they mentiond 2.0 everyone who was semi-new assumed they would get a wipe. There has been begging by some in the community for ages about a wipe, a segment of the community that wants instant gratification, and hates the fact that others are (at a casual rate) many months if not a year ahead of them, and the only fair solution for them is to wipe everyone clean, so that they may be at the top. Seeing 2.0 gave this segment of the community a chance to..well...make it happen if they can.
Here is the direct quote regarding the matter "There were concerns about wipes: We’ve considered wipes on various levels, however these are important decisions because while this is like a new game, it’s still the continuation of the current one. Also, the way things will work in the new version, it would not be as necessary to wipe, but wiping would also not be as drastic as it would be in the current version. This is a topic we’ll open up for discussion after we’ve given you more information on the new version of the game, so you can understand all the parameters involved."
Bottom line is that the wipe was brought up by the community, the bog post mentioned it by basically saying no in vague enough terms to allow everyone to come to the conclusion that its a 100% certaincy. Read the blog post about it, i think this wipe talk has gotten way out of hand however.
I mean if they are going to change the way the skilly system works, how skills work, what skills do...yeah but mabey like i mentioed above no one knows any of this, and they sure as hell are not going to remove 2 years or progress..that would be mmorpg suicide and im sure they know it. |

preston326 - just so you know, if they had not moved the US server from the west coast to the east coast I would still be playing, whether they wipe or not Being in Australia when the server was west coast we could get down to 180 ping, which while still a great disadvantage over 100- ping people it was possible to play. When the server moved to the east coast we got 250 - 300 ping and it was horrible and there was no point. Darkfall has something special - you are on edge the whole time you play, you never know when someone will sneak up and kick your ass, the loot wasnt so important after a while but it was pride not to get your ass kicked that kept you on edge. While I am really enjoying Lotro, its a very different game, I can play while doing other things at the same time and theres no risk and no adrenalin, Lotro can be immersive because of its depth, and it is well made with lots of options and complications, but good in a very different way to Darkfall. In short, while enjoying Lotro, I miss playing Darkfall. Hopefully what I have said above will help you make up your mind, and if it sounds like the type of game you like, its worth trying now, wipe or no wipe. At least you can then pretend to be old school and know the "good old days" before DF 2. Have fun.
