A New Beginning

7/04/11 10:42:55 AM#1

A lot of people seem to be resisting early calls that Df2 is a different game. However, to assume anything other than this being a different game is pure speculation.

The two sources information:

From Tasos on October 18, 2010

Quote:

All our resources are dedicated to the development and future of Darkfall1 (that's what I'll call it for the purposes of this post to avoid any confusion).

We're currently working on a major expansion to Darkfall1.

We haven't diverted resources to a Darkfall2 game.

Even if we had, it would take years to complete and we would not stop full development of Darkfall1

We have no plans of replacing Darkfall1 with a Darkfall2

Our development works in such a way that all assets made today are reusable and upgradable for future generations of Darkfall, so yes we're keeping the future of Darkfall in mind while we work on this version of the game. It doesn't mean that we're working on a new game.

Expansion / Relaunch doesn't mean a server wipe but it may give fresh options to new and existing players.

I'll repeat that we're not going to wipe the servers in case that's still unclear.

From Tasos in July 1, 2011 Activity Report:

Quote:
This relaunch is not an expansion. It’s a new game we’ve been developing in parallel with the current version of Darkfall.

The scope is massive, and it has been difficult to stay on schedule after several unexpected issues we’ve had with the current version, changes and additions we decided to make for the new version, some business developments, and the decision to add the siege system into this version of the game rather than in the relaunch.

we’re moving forward with a complete redesign of the game incorporating the lessons learned from the current version, rather than just keep patching up this version.

Contradictions Between the Post:
A) Post 1 claims that all resources have been put into the current version of Darkfall but post 2 sais that resources have been split between the current version and another one

B) Post 1 claims that two games/versions were not being made at the same time, though Post 2 states that the two games/versions have been developed parallel with each other.

What Can We Conclude:
Without the speculating, we can only really conclude that

A)There will be a new game (DF2?)
B)There will not be a wipe of current survers
C)New options will be available to new/existing players

What We Dont Know:
A) Will DF2 come with its own servers
B) Will people be able to transfer their characters to the new servers

as somoene who hasnt played since just after release, even i know Tasos is a liar who often speaks half truths or just seems to make things up.

to me this means its just a redesign of the current game

an expansion? technically no i guess.

a whole new game? i doubt it. took him what? 9 years to release darkfall?

IMO people will be keeping their characters and they'll just be in a whole new game world with whole new mechanics.

kinda like the SWG fiasco if they all of a sudden moved the characters to a new set of planets

We really don't know anything until Tasos gives us more information. Development teams change things on the fly all the time, that's the nature of development - those two Tasos posts are a good example.  A lot of things have been said by Aventurine and crew over the years and if I were to take snippets of some of those said things and compare them, we'd all have a pretty good laugh.

I don't think the change is about development, but marketing plan honestly but whatever.

I honestly fail to understand what Tasos is trying to say... :(

It's probably better this way. At least then you aren't expecting something only to be disappointed down the road and maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised instead.

I don't play DF or know much about it, but the way the words are strung together in the 2nd comment it sounds like they might have hopes of box-sales from a 'new game'.

In all honestly, I think it's going to be a PVE version of DF. Or something along those lines.

Yeah, that guy is rather weird. I never really gotten over how he turned a bad review from no big deal to a huge disaster...

To me at least this seems more tp be Darkfall 1,5 than DF 2. Not that DF 1,5 is a bad thing or anything but it doesn't sounds like you could say that this will be a sequel, more a huge update.

Maybe it is just me who don't share the Greek way of seeing things.

Still, any large update is good for the players (except the NGE) and sequel or not, it will hopefully make the game a better game.
