Was wondering what the crafting is like in DF? Is it like that found in games as WoW, EQ2, etc, or VG or better yet WURM? Anyone, please advise details. Able to created everything or just some things? |

You can craft the same thing over and over to lvl any crafting skill. And you can have them all. You can craft all weapons ingame. This game is about PVP though not crafting. |

The crafting is just there. You have the mats in your inventory and press "create". It is easy. The fact that the game is about pvp doesnt mean it "shouldnt" have a in-depth crafting system. For example "Mortal Online" has an in-depth highly detailed crafting system and also is about PVP. Also not saying that MO is perfect, just making a point. |

Darkfall crafting is a little more sophisicated in my opinion, in a way that it is better then WoW's and that "standard" crafting stuff...

I can honestly say that although the crafting is very AFK friendly (which is a good break after dying or waiting for hostiles that you cant beat to leave) and simple compared to a game like Vanguard or SWG, it ended up being more useful to me being a crafter in this game. This is a great thing for some and not so much for others. I personally love having semi-AFK activities to do so that I can build my character while watching TV or playing Guildwars on a 2nd monitor, etc.
I imagine that it would be a lot harder in some ways if I didn't start out crafting. Unlike other games your stats raise as you craft and harvest so that your overall character becomes more powerful toward combat.
You cannot expect to make money from it like you can in other games (buying low and selling high is the biggest money maker if you want to make money) and will end up investing a ton of time and work into crafting if you want to max something like weaponsmithing but I love being able to craft myself a custom set for the purpose for whatever I am wanting to do with my gaming session . ... for example if I go out to kill some fire elementals I could make myself some ice damage weapons to double my PVE profit.
I think enchanting is the funnest so that is a definite must to pick up if you are trying out the game.
Just look up the recipe here: Find the monsters that skin for the mats you need here: http://www.feylines.net/yourmom/ and you have yourself a custom set with your name on it! its 5/5/5 and 1 catalyst +100g for each enchant but make sure that you have things in the correct order or the recipe fails. NEWS FLASH! A bank was robbed the other day and a man opened fire on the customers being held hostage. One customer zig-zag sprinted until he found cover. When questioned later he explained that he was a hardcore Darkfall Online player and knew just what to do. |

DarkFall's crafting system is no different than WoW, with the exception that harvest-able nodes does not disappear when they are emptied. That's about it, you harvest ingredients (or buy some from NPCs if they are available), go to the crafting station, press a button and wait. You *can* increase your item's durability by raising one of your skill (True Forge Weapon and True Forge Armor) and Dwarves also have an additional skill that raises durability, although I don't remember the name . The difference in durability is very significant though. You can't choose your equipments or armor stats based on the materials or quality you use when you craft them. At best there's Enchanting, where the quality of materials used does affect the bonus to your items, but again it's a very simple process of just gathering the ingredients (from mobs) according to the recipe, go to the crafting station, press a button and wait. Don't expect any kind of customization from DarkFall's crafting system, there's none. No mini-game, no need to be involved, nothing. Just stand there and watch (or alt+tab if you're making 50-100 items) I had first joined DarkFall with the intention to become a dedicated crafter (as I have often done in other MMOs with more interesting crafting system) but after I've seen DarkFall's system I focused on PvP instead. So I'm not saying all of these rather negative things randomly, I'm coming from the point of view of a dedicated crafter. Admittedly, DarkFall's PvP is fun enough which made up for the lack of any good crafting system. ------ |

crafting in darkfall while it is simple and somehow grindy its also specialy in a degree that you can actually be almost a dedicated crafter... you can craft almost everything in the game but to do so you must have the materials. some you can gather from nodes like herbs, timber, rock and metals. the nodes refills after some hours and you can gather from the same again. and even so there are plenty all over the world. you dont have to search and search like you would do in WoW for example.. so mats are there but you need time to gather..good thing is that you can gather while you are doing something else..till that node is empty and then you can go in another and be again afk and doing somehting else. for example in darkfall i have no issues of cleaning the house or washing the dishes cause i have to do something on my mmo (call me WoW) and i slack :P
Beside that when you do crafting and gather mats you also raise base stats like str, wisdom, inteligence, vitality etc and you can become stronger to kill some mobs so u can gather some extra mats from them by skining them wich is mostly good for enchanting and also some later recipes on other professions....
The whole game is so free that make you wanna do everything..what better of being able to craft everything u want specialy when u are not imba pvper? a pvp player will kill players or mobs to get his gear..crafters will die easier cause of lack of stats and experience in pvp combat but at least they can refill the gear/weapon stock easily whille actually they can make lots of money by trading their goods.. for me no other game made me wanna play just a peacful crafter with some injection of pvp and pve fun.. ;) |
