They did a great service to the NA players by moving the server closer to where the NA population is.

The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. When will developers (and players) become sane? Now go eat some grass like everyone else.

Unless you have an accurate breakdown of players by region than you don't know. Right now all I see a vocal minority whose ping has changed for the worse, but not enough where it is game breaking.

Although this poll contains both NA and EU players ( since both servers were relocated in NA and EU respectively),  46.75% of the population has noticed an increase in their ping. Hardly a vocal minority if you ask me.

And did everyone vote? No.

Without accurate sub numbers we cannot even try to the possibility of who this affects. Not to mention all the people in-game do not go to the forums. I don't have a forum account, so I can't vote, for example. Some people in my clan don't look as well, nor post. So just because one poll, which is not indicative of the whole population, occured. Doesn't mean this is an accurate portrayal. So we can't assume anything.

That number represents a small minority that actually go to Darkfall's website and post on their forums. The majority of people that game never visit official websites or forums, so those numbers aren't as useful as you might think.

Do either of you understand how polls works? It is physically impossible to poll the whole community, even if AV were to put an in-game system to poll the players, because there will always be that "one" guy who didn't vote for "x" and "y" reasons (not like it would change a lot of things, but still). Polls are not meant to target the whole demographic, but only to poll a small group of individuals (a sample) that represents the whole demographic and analyze the results.

The question was : Ping Increase or Decrease?

46.76% said they've noticed an increase.

53.24% said they've noticed a decrease.

That's all there is to it. Even if we were to give it a 10% error margin, it's still over a 1/3 of the population who has noticed an increase, which is pretty far from a "vocal minority".

Still don't understand how polling works? Here, read these 2 articles:

Yeah quiet a few when that poll was made had an increase but the poll doesn't consider the peoples pings who've been fixed the past few days and the issues AV will overcome in the upcoming weeks.

Those higher pings are for various reasons, some are legit because the players further away and others are networking issues.

I understand how a poll works, but it wasn't a well developed one. It's options were vague and undefined to begin with. Examples: How much did ping increase, do you get lag spikes, what internet type do you have, etc. There's lots of variable and that was a simple poll created by a user that tells us nothing.

How was it vague? You had 2 very precise possible answers: Increase, Decrease. Why would you need additional information about ISP, Lag Spikes, etc, when the sole purpose of the poll is to determine wether or not there has been an increase or decrease of player's ping. That's all the poll was about. There is no need for this poll to go deeper than that.

Admittedly, the poll should've taken into account where players are from (NA, AU, EU and west/east/north/south), but overall it's easy to determine the increased ping has been felt in the western area ( NA, AU) given the location of the server as of now (Chicago for NA, Holland for EU). Based on this information, AV can now take the appropriate actions and trying to solve this issue with the many ISPs in the respective areas. It's as simple as that.

Because a small ping increase means nothing if you still have 90 ping. So with many options we'd be able to see how many people actually get 150-200+ ping versus those that got ping increases but can still play fine. It's a faulty poll and you know it.

Working on the assumption that AV is a halfway intelligent company:

Any user logging into the game uses their IP. Your IP is bound to your location. As such a simple function which takes every IP trying to log into the game and makes a note that IP and the location that IP is linked to will be able to determine, after say a week of playtime ( of course making sure IPs aren't added twice ) where your average userbase is connecting to your server from.

Great thing is that it doesn't even matter if proxies are used or not. Because even if your user doesn't originate from the IP known to the server he's still connecting to the server through that IP and as such his ping is determined by the location of that IP.

So if AV is a halfway intelligent company then they'll know better then any of you where their users are connecting from.

We are the bunny.
Resistance is futile.

If you blame your incompetence on 70ms worth of difference then you are really grasping for the reason why you are bad and you don't realize your own faults as a player.

Try to start and stop a stopwatch in 70ms, or easier, try for 110ms. I bet you can't.
It takes longer for most people to blink.

In PvP or FPS games, latency is extremely important and can make a whole world of difference. In Darkfall's case, you can't use Knives effectively unless you have a ping <50ms, otherwise it's a lot harder to land hits because of the latency issue, and this is just an exemple.

There are good players who play at 200+ ms. But I do see the frustration in having your ping increase.

The minority always has the loudest voice it seems.  Lets hope AV does not have a knee jerk reaction to them.

I live in australia and ive noticed a massive ping increase in the past two weeks or so. Never had any problems playing guilders before as roughly 200 ping was perfect an more then playable for me. But as of late 2weeks it's stationary around 500 and I'm a big pvper. Could anyone shed light on why, an if this could be fixed personally or by annet on future?. Just reading alot about this server move an it does line up with my ping so just curious. Thanks.

It's not quite something that you can fix. At best you could try to open up the ports to the server, but you might only win anywhere between 20-70ms, which still doesn't make it playable.

As for the server move, not much to be done about it. AV has mentionned a few times in the past looking at opening an Asia server, so perhaps the AU players will be able to migrate to that server, should it ever open. But there's not much chance it's going to happen. The NA server was moved from California to North Eastern USA in Chicago, and seems  highly unlikely that they'd move the server back.

Ahh true... That's a real shame. Alot of my Australian friends in my guild are all experiencing 500+ standard. Obviously really killing the game for everyone. But yeah, ill suss it out a bit more although the options of improvment looks pretty slim.

Thanks for the reply anyways matey.
