The time has come. I'm jumping into the world of Darkfall. Im going to partition my iMac hard drive tonight and install windows 7, then Darkfall.

I watched this game when it was in development and was about to buy it, but I jumped ship when Aventurine's sales model reared its ugly head.

I've been gaming since Asheron's Call (Darktide) and have played similar FFA pvp games likes Neocron (2), Eve, and the like. I think I'm finally ready for the FFA full loot that Darkfall has to offer.

I found a good group of DF tutorials on youtube. I'll link the first one here if anyone else is interested in looking them over. Also...I'd appreciate some feedback from DF players on the tutorial. Is it a good one? or should I seek a different tutorial?

I'll be joining one of the NA servers, if there is more than one. So if anyone on the forums has a char in game on a NA server and would like to meet up in order to help out or beat up a new player post a reply here and I hope to see you in game soon. Also, if anyone on these forums would like to lend a word or two of advice to a new DF player, I'm all ears.

The link is the standard reference to DF guide. As the biggest new addition to skill progression  i would add -because its a bit dated now - is the meditation system. The meditation system is basically a offline skilling tool and its very helpfull and should be part of any character "acceleration" guide.

Welcome to Darkfall.

Awesome. Yea, ive heard bits and pieces about the meditation system. How does it work? Do I set one skill to be advanced while I'm logged off? Or does it work as an umbrella advancement of sorts? Thanks for any and all information you guys can provide!

Yep, you set a skill,   for it to level when you not online. It costs ingame gold, so beside the skills and spells mentioned in guide you need also spare one for meditation. Since the video the mob droped loot has been uped a lot so it helps with the additionally needed gold.

You will setup meditation through the in game journal - there is a button on UI for it - which starts a new window  in game (but its a separate windows process you might have to allow on your firewall just say to watch this in case you would have any problem.

but thats many details for now, just get in game first, download and patching takes some time ;)

Good luck. I hope you enjoy your time. Please continue to update you progress...I  watched some of Valroth's PvP vids when I first started, and it helped. I think he had only released one at the time..nevertheless...it was helpful. Find some friends fast, kill a dwarf or 12 for an old ork.

Also, if you're going to meditate stats, your priority would be vitality, then strength.

Currently at a stand still. Can't seem to get DF to run. I just partitioned and formatted part of my iMac under the Windows 7 (64bit) os, but the DF install client keeps telling me that DF does not support 64bit operating systems. I've read all over about people playing DF on 64bit versions of Win7 and Win Xp but cant seem to dig up a solution.

It's definitively an issue with your iMac (not very great product for Gaming). You *could* try to install Windows 7 on a Virtual Box and see how it goes, but can your computer handle the requirements?. Splitting your hard drive to install a different OS isn't the best solution in my opinion.

My iMac should be able to handle DF. it was a late 2010 model with 4gig of ram and a terabyte of internal space so the split...750gigs for my mac OS and 250gig for my windows OS shouldn't be too stressful at all for the computer (especially since I store most of my sensitive files on a terabyte graid drive.)

While I'll entertain that it could be my iMac, I dont really see how. Just because the first OS installed on the hardware was a mac OS doesn't make the pieces in the machine any different. the hardware is all still the same. I've got a Nvidia graphics card in there with a gig of ram great for both video editing on my mac and gaming on the windows partition.

Try to download latest "Lobby", the message about "not supported Windows version" is usually caused by broken download.

DF works on Win 7 64bit, assuming that you've DirectX 9 installed.

Finally got Darkfall to install on my Win7 partition. But alas, as soon as I managed to get the game installed and patched, I was greeted by offline servers.

I shall try again later.

I hope to get into the game play, and give all the other newcomers on these forums an idea of what it is like to start fresh in Darkfall 2 years after it's release. Hopefully it will answer all these "is it worth it?" and "can i be pvp viable" threads and questions.
