Originally posted by Blindchance Skill Grind is pretty decent now. Stats grind isn't. Reducing the grind any further for Skills would just be ridiculous. Instead, what DarkFall needs is Prestige Classes (since AV is quite against Skill Caps) with a slight nerf to Hybrid build. Then, grinding for everything won't be an issue anymore.
AV needs to ditch the Armor System though....because the way I see it, they plan to trash Prestige Classes, and go for the band-aid fix of Armor System, which will mess up everything. ------ |

Originally posted by MadnessRealm Not necessarily similar system works well in EVE where class of your ship limits your skill usage. Earth Rise is going the same way- lets put the horrible state of that game aside. |

Originally posted by Blindchance The thing about EVE though is that you can't actually grind your skills up. Unlike DarkFall, spamming the skill on a bugged mob won't raise your skills. They raise naturally over time, so it removes the whole "rush to max status" and allows players to "grind" isks or whatever it is they want to do without them being necessarily forced to. This is mixed with EVE's Ship system that locks out abilities and unlock others based on the ship you currently use. It's a very interesting mix of features, but not something that can work in DarkFall.
The Armor system that is to be introduced in DarkFall will likely create more of a "Class-based" experience rather than player freedom "à la Ultima Online" (minus the Skill Cap), which is what DarkFall was "all about". It won't sit well with the playerbase, nor it's ex-playerbase looking to return. ------ |

Originally posted by MadnessRealm Again I laugh at your nonsense! Yes there's a grind to get your abilities up (offline skilling too) players are sick of being forced to be a hybrid using all the abilities from every spell tree. This flexible way of limiting the role of a player from a do-it-all-superman to something specific will do a hell lot of good. I see no reason why it wouldn't work. Easier to balance, can be changed within 20 seconds at a bank, cuts the grind by 2/3 because you only need one combat type to be effective. |

Originally posted by Greymoor Nonsense? Where exactly?
Onto your last point, Armor System is AV's band-aid fix to hybrid rather than implementing Prestige Classes, which would offer a lot more diversity. It's easier in every way, yes, and that's exactly the issue. It's bringing Darkfall much closer to a Class-based game. Prestige Classes would create larger diversity and were supposed to require a certain amount of commitment from the players to achieve greater things for exemple (I recall reading about Paladin Prestige Class having to donate 50% of the gold they'd get to the Paladin Order [something like that] to gain the benefits of the PC). Wouldn't that be awesome? Or Prestige Classes for Crafters so that we can actually have a real economy? etc.....Armor System is bad no matter how I look at it. It's a band-aid fix, and a bad one at that. Just wait and see the rage on the forum when the patch goes live (if it ever does). ------ |

UO is a lot more chill. Darkfall's combat is much faster-paced which means more adrenaline.
It takes months just to learn how to play though because its not easy. NEWS FLASH! A bank was robbed the other day and a man opened fire on the customers being held hostage. One customer zig-zag sprinted until he found cover. When questioned later he explained that he was a hardcore Darkfall Online player and knew just what to do. |

Originally posted by DarthRaiden because of that now artificial bariers (chaos churches) will interfere with FFA PvP. If it's hard to get back to blue, those preferring FFA PvP will stay red permanently. 90% of players will be red, but when you'll see another blue, you can be pretty sure that he won't attack you, if you're blue. Eliminating alignment exploits, esp. those used by vets against newbies, in the long run will improve game for everyone. |

If you played UO for 10 years, then I'm pretty sure ANY game will be fine. :P
People quit UO because it morphed into something else, something horrible. So yeah, Darkfall should be fine. |

Originally posted by harmonica Thanks for the heads up. I know I posted this a few months ago, but I now am finally going to give DF the time to try it out. Right now I am downloading Mortal Online and Darkfall Online.
I guess what I am really looking for is a community to be apart of similar to how UO was. I want to be able to have a house and an area I can call mine, craft, and explore the world.
To be honest, I am not sure how well either of these games will work out for me since I am looking for a MMO that is more about being in a world than just going out and killing everything. 1999 - Current UO veteran |

Well i don't want to be harsh but if you played Uo till 2009, i think you better go back there. I played Uo till 2005 i think but its still almost 10 year for me, but i just couldn't go back there at all, and DF just doesn't offer at all what i liked in UO. Maybe DF 2.0 will be better, but i lost hope in this game tbh, there is too much to change in it to take it to the UO standard. Im still watching this game closely tought, and if you never played it, it might get you some good moment. |

Thanks. I stopped my Mortal Online download, I just don't think this game would offer what I love in UO. Darkfall, who knows. I might as well give it a try.
Mainly, what I am looking for, is an adventure. And maybe you can tell me if DFO offers this, but I want a game where I can own a house and decorate it how I want. I want a game where there is a sense of exploration and treasure hunting and where crafted weapons and items give you the best 'stats.' I never really was deeply into PvP, I did partake in PvP in UO when people wanted to kill me, but I never went out looking for a fight. If that makes sense.

Originally posted by MaeEye Sound like you are not sure of what you want. DF wont offer you what you want since you will probably never get your own house. You cannot even build it since you only have to mark your card on 1 of the aivalable house out there. Decorations are not really decortation cuz it only adds new function to your house. Plus, you cant even place them where you want. In other word, housing in DF are reserved for super rich vets. Treasure hunting is again, something made up for the vets. You must hunt one of the hardest mob in game in order to get one and it is really rare. For someone like you. Your best bet is to join a clan filled with vets. Go kill bosses with them and your group might receive a treasure map. But again, most vets dont even want to baby sit characters with low stats.
The only real adventure you will find in DF is just like other thempark mmorpg's. Quest lines. Quest in DF are not even worth to do cuz there are better ways to get rich and progressing on skills/stats at the same time. Yep, you have to hunt repetitively the same mob everydays. In the long run, you will figure that DF is not an RPG. If you just want the pvp to come to yo, id suggest you to join a large clan and you will do good. Played DF trial for 2 weeks none stop. Check out my pvp video during trial.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJnU_JEqKRM |
