The good... Great gathering/crafting system, reminds me of SWG PvE is fun, mobs move around, aim to shoot, they get a bit dumb sometimes but much better than any other mmo world is huge, looks amazing and real, no cartoon graphics with 50 dragons, motorbikes or helicopters flying in your face no linear path force fed into your mouth you won't be finished and bored in a month, skills take a while (some people may hate this, the WoW and FPS kids) housing system with your own vendors, okay it's not perfect but it's not instanced (can't build anywhere like SWG)
The bad... you fight the UI more than anything in PvE/PvP (they say they're going to fix it though) PvP alignment system doesn't work (people just create alt accounts to fix alignment) no auction house of any kind steep learning curve with gankers at the beginning and no real help for noobs, although other players are good for answering questions
I've tried over 20 mmos, this comes in a close second after Eve. It's not perfect, but will have my attention for at least a few months. I'm more of a PVEr, so I'm actually surprised I'm liking a full loot PvP game. |

You like it because its not just a "full loot PvP" game. Its a full blood MMORPG descenting from the root ideas of MMORPG's created in the pioneer days of the genre. Because of the "full loot PvP part" tho - that other devs simply ignore - it attracts mostly folks who seeking just that. If the playerbase were more diverse i am sure DF would be known as a "full MMORPG" satisfying explorer types, PvE'r , PvP'r , crafter and whatnot. You right tho some modifications have to be made who would support that. -----MY-TERMS-OF-USE-------------------------------------------------- "There was suppression of speech and all kinds of things between disturbing and fascistic." I agree with about 90% of the original post (give or take a few percentage points =P). Darkfall is the closest thing to a "new" version of "the old days." When I played Darkfall initially, the experience was awesome. PvP in it is very fun due to the skill-based build of the game. PvE is fun for the same reason. The characters' build possibilities is awesome. No limits is exactly how I like a game. The one thing I found lacking was one of the things that draws me to RPG's in general (tabletop or the like); experience points. I played for so long, for so many days, at the end of some of the days I just wanted a level to look at. More like an Asheron's Call type level though. The kind that doesn't make too large of a difference, just a little "this is where you're at." My progression in this game felt more like the progress I made when I just got better than my friends at Halo 1. This game is amazing, though. Don't get me wrong. Out of all of the MMOs from the last 6 years, it's taken the largest step in the right direction. It will hopefully "pioneer" the market into a renaissance. |

Unfortunately there's a big problem that has actually made me cancel my sub. Anyone can transport and kill you anywhere in the world at any time. There's bascially a forklift in the game called a "funhulk", someone picks you up from a city, dumps you and kills you (you can't move in any way and no keys work). It basically makes doing anything, especially crafting in a city impossible as a noob. Apparently it's a known "feature" (known to the vets who can afford their own houses to craft). Good game, although it's a catch 22, you can't get anywhere as a noob, thus only a select few can progress. I now understand why many quit. |

Originally posted by mcast1234 You know nothing about the game. 1) Vets don't craft in houses. They craft in their player cities. Anyone can craft in a player owned city 2) You can get EVERYWHERE as a newbie. There isn't any select few who can progress. You are having a hard time because you are living in a newbie city. Get into a clan = 100x easier. Or stop crafting because its useless for you to craft early in the game. 3) You would die with or without fun hulks, even inside an NPC city protected by guard towers. Stop crafting AFK and you won't have a problem. All that said, it should be fixed.

Did he seriously get so severely assaulted by funhulks during so many gaming sessions as to be unable to play the game without being griefed by funhulks? I've never even seen that happen. Originally posted by mcast1234 Those two were basically what broke it for me (and the awful animations). I mean a game that relies so much on player crafting not to have a proper auction house?! And such a worthless UI for a game that is supposed to have action paced combat?! It is just mind boggling that they would do it this way. It is like they are detached from what has happened in the MMORPG scene for the last five years. I mean, yes alot of bad crap has been introduced, such as themepark and what not, but alot of GOOD things has also been made. Such as a functional UI and an auction house. Get a grip Adventurine, you are a decade behind... |

Originally posted by Yamota To be completely frank after you spend sometime getting yourself setup properly and reminding yourself that its not a targeting based gamethe 'UI' does not get in your way while you are fighting. The very fact that you have so many spells and skills is something that can not realistically be managed well under any UI system. I currently have every spell in the game and in combat/pre-combat I might use up to at least 20. How do you do that without F1 1-10, F2 1-10 etc. People try to set up macros on a G keyboards but to be frank its eaiser to just hit the F keys and numbers. That said, the default key assignment in the game is shift F keys which is silly.
Also assigned a key (not F or number Key) for your weapons (aka Q for staff, E for melee, Tab for archery). does your game have rainbow sprinkles and magic ponies!? |

Originally posted by xpiher This is all true. When the population is doing well in the game, as it is lately after the skill gains formula got a little better, its better to pick a clan with a remote yet sustainable holding for leveling purposes once you get past the sortof "goblin only" level of skill. Going afk in cities with stuff on you is a no-no even if you are unclanned. Dying and losing stuff is a part of the darkfall experience -- it's what gives the game meaning really. That's what makes the politics matter.
