I remmber back when darkfall released its first trailer and cherished thoughts of UO came to mind. However i never actually got around to buying the game. I tried near rleease but was unable to and the fact that there was only a US server at release put me off. I then rmeember seeing the trailers for MO and thinking it looked alot like darkfall but with better graphics so i went with that game. Im not here to argue darkfall or MO, im thinknig of giving darkfall a try to see what it can offer me. But a few things put me off and 1 is the endless grinding people have mentioned. Im not a fan of grinding i hate doing something that isnt fun and paying money to do so. Thats why i chose MO becuase there is little to no grind. So is the grind really that bad? is pve actually worth doing in darkfall? and does the no skill limit (a turn off) really mean that new palyers will forever struggle to catch those who palyed along time and is afk macroing the odne thing in this game? there are 2 types of mmo, imitators and innovaters. |

Try the trial. I downloaded the trial today but be prepared for a long patch. I don't think I have ever seen a game take so long to patch, 4 hours now and I opened the port for it. |

I've played Darkfall on and off since closed beta. The game originally started with only an EU server, the US server opened a few months after release. I joined a clan while waiting for the game to go live. On release day, I ran around with two clanmates killing other players and killing lots of NPCs, and the three of us helped eachother with gathering resources and crafting. That was the most fun I've had in an MMO in recent years. If you have friends to play the game with, it's a great experience. However, if you plan on playing this game completely by yourself, you will die of boredom and frustration.
My personal experience with MO was terrible at best. Comparatively, I enjoyed Darkfall far more than MO. My biggest gripe with both Darkfall and MO is the full loot mechanic.
Also, my clan claimed a city in southern Agon shortly after release. We invested so much time and effort building our city, only to have it captured by a rival clan. That was kind of the last straw for me. The whole experience seemed futile in the end. No pleasure, no rapture, no exquisite sin greater... than central air. |

Originally posted by deathshroud Darkfall is definitely worth it. I don't grind and have a great time whenever I play. This is not an instant gratification game but a hell of a lot funner than UO, mostly because of the controls, immersion, and how the combat feels. Because I have been playing Darkfall for almost 2 years, I feel like I cannot play any other game as my main game anymore because all other games suck when compared to Darkfall. It took me months to realise this however but it is by far the funnest game that I have ever played and if it ever dies I will rage like I have never raged before. It is seriously that good. The freedom and how it feels to move around and play is unlike any other game out there. I didn't even like this game at first . ... but wow I am glad that I stuck with it because how it feels when I play other games just doesn't compare. I will never go back to another EQ-clone again! UO was way behind what Darkfall has the potential to become. The gameplay cannot even be compared.
MO has some good ideas and years ago I was looking forward to MO more than anything else as it sounded like the perfect game but it turned out to be one of the very few games that I felt like I wasted money on. In games that I do not like, I will just quit, but normally do not feel like I have wasted my money but I definitely did with MO. Think ET for atari. For todays standards, yes it is that bad.
The grind is really not that bad. I will only play MMORPGs for the PVP and have grinded more in almost every other game that I have ever played when compared to Darkfall and was required to if I wanted to stay on top of the food chain. In other games I would often have to reroll and have to repeat the same boring grind because of some class being nerfed or OP. I have not had to grind in Darkfall. I just do what I want when I log in and it levels me up. Just keep playing . .. it takes months just to learn how to effectively PVP for the most part anyways . .. keep playing and doing whatever the hell that you want and you will skill up as you do stuff. You are not required to do anything. Darkfall does not have a grind in the way that other games do, like forcing you to do quests to unlock more content, or forcing you to kill the same mob over and over again before you can continue. NEWS FLASH! A bank was robbed the other day and a man opened fire on the customers being held hostage. One customer zig-zag sprinted until he found cover. When questioned later he explained that he was a hardcore Darkfall Online player and knew just what to do. |
