OK first I'd like to apologize for slagging off Aventurine also I'd like to apologize to Tasos for anything I said about him and his mother. I'm not sure if Downtoearth is still posting here but he was right (eventually) and this game was released. I have held back from purchasing this game due to waiting for other games (that have been pushed back) and that I was sure DFO would have shut down by now and Aventurine gone into bankruptcy. However DFO is still here and still offering open world PvP and sandbox play.

I'm not into fantasy games as much as sci fi but it seems DFO is offering alot in a large open world. Since this year has been a total loss for MMORPGs and next year will also and I haven't played an MMORPG since AoC last year I need my fix! So are there any tips apart from not buying DFO?

There will be an expansion very soon ( next week or two?? ).   I would maybe wait until the bugs have been fixed from that so you get a full 30 days of free play time with  your purchase.

You could try a little real world PVP. Mug someone and buy DFO with their money.

I saw a guy wearing a t-shirt that read "I'm with Stupid" . . . he was alone.

Dark Pony for Pope.

If the OPs last game was AoC a year ago.....then you really need Darkfall!

And if you could spend money on AoC, then spending money on Darkfall should be no problem.

Join a clan, sea based or land based! Raid others or defend yourself! Be a crafter or a gatherer! Explore the world or stay in your clancity and train for future sieges!

Well I've just cracked and bought DFO and am downloading it now, I pray Aventurine will show me mercy and forgive me for my past transgressions on these forums. I've just got the email conformation, and am glad to see the client is a very small download compared to the 10-20 GB od AoC!

If people can spend money and try Aion, WAR, AoC or WoW, there should be no problem trying DF as well.

But for *#ck sake remember that DF is nothing like a "carebear" (the positive meaning) themepark MMO. You will be thrown out into the wilderness right away, and it will try and eat and shit you out. No mercy is given or expected.

I must be in need of some serious patching then, I downloaded a client of 52.5 MB. Does DFO automatically patch when you log into the client of are the patches downloaded manually? If so where from?

I logged in a second time and it started patching, seems I have quite a way to go :(

Still plenty of time to read up on the game and choose my race ect.

Can you post something here and tell us how the first hours of playing went? : )

What race are you gonna choose?

Big races are stronger, and the others are wiser and quicker.

Not long. Maintenance is 11am GMT and lasts for around an hour I believe, so if you live in North America chances are you won't even notice it.

I'm still looking over the info but will post a thread on my first day in DFO, I'll give DFO a good go as it's the first MMORPG I've plyed for nearly a year. I thought it would've crashed and burned by now but the fact it's still alive means Aventurine must have got something right, we'll see anyhow.

should should have waited a week or two for the 2nd expansion but hey if you give it a chance and don't get upset when people take your stuff, then you'll prolly enjoy it.
